Sean Couturier for Bobby Ryan?

Darren Dreger on Insider Trading tonight said it was a deal to keep an eye on. He said there's a potential for it to happen in-season or in the offseason. Said the Ducks want a strong #2 centerman and feel that Couturier could be a fit. He said by no means are the Ducks shopping Ryan, but this is a hockey deal that could make sense for both teams.

I'd do it. No idea how we're going to make it work capwise next year, but **** it!

Potential Deal Around B. Ryan and S. Couturier

On Insider Trading Dreger just brought up that it could possibly happen if 'a hockey deal' was able to be made.

Corporal Komarov 03-25-2013 06:57 PM

Just seen that. I think that could be a good deal for both teams.

Anth93 03-25-2013 06:57 PM

This is smart for Philly. With Giroux and Schenn, Couturier may not see the offensive spike we all assume he can do one day.

Pi 03-25-2013 06:58 PM

Sean Couturier+ what for Bobby Ryan?

Philly steals Anaheim in broad daylight if it's a swap.

Sean Couturier + Read for Ryan?

dredeye 03-25-2013 06:58 PM

your quick but they simply said maybe they could work a deal out around these two. An off season move at the earliest and it's them throwing out names and really nothing more.

Roo Mad Bro 03-25-2013 06:58 PM

I'd strongly consider it, only because I feel Scott Laughton (Flyers 2012 1st rd. pick) could become an excellent 3rd line center. He probably won't ever be as good as Couturier, but he's faster and grittier (which the Flyers love).

JeffMangum 03-25-2013 06:58 PM

I don't see huge offensive upside in Couturier. Great, great shutdown center, but I think he'll be a 50 point center during his good years.

Not a fan of this move from Anaheim's perspective.

drums4dmf 03-25-2013 06:58 PM

Wow.. I'm assuming Philly would need to add another piece?

Honestly even 50 points can seem generous. He's probably one of the best at what he does defensively, but the offense always really disappoints me.

It's still easy to project him as a 2nd line C.

stakesishigh 03-25-2013 06:59 PM

If I'm the Ducks giving up Ryan I would want more than just Sean Couturier.

caley 03-25-2013 07:00 PM

It reminds me too much of Schenn-JVR last year to be just idle speculation. It was odd. Dreger cut in quite suddenly with it, a propos of nothing, and brought it up as a real discussion, not as if he was spitballing and throwing names out there.

Schenn - JVR would have been done midseason had it not been for JVR's concussion.

I do agree though, this seems quite legitimate based off Dreger.

no need for either team to dd. Couturier will be better then Ryan in time IMO

HooliganX2 03-25-2013 07:02 PM

Philly needs to add a decent piece imo. Straight up would currently be robbery for philly.

viper0220 03-25-2013 07:02 PM

This would be a good deal for both teams, I think Philly adds though Bobby Ryan is a proven NHLer and a 70 point guy but Couturier is younger. If I was the Ducks I push for this trade now because then Sean would get a taste of NHL playoff hockey and he get used to the Ducks.

I wouldn't do that. Couts and Read is too much and they produce too much at their extreme low cap hits for a team like Philly that's already gonna be in cap trouble.

Roo Mad Bro 03-25-2013 07:02 PM

Well, I think it's obvious that both the Flyers and Bobby Ryan would LOVE for him to play in Philly.

He grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ, which is close to Philly. Grew up a Flyers fan, and he knows members of the FO personally.

I really think it's almost inevitable that he'll be in Philly one day.

HappyGilmourr 03-25-2013 07:02 PM

I thought of this too but makes no sense right now, but could make sense in the offseason.

Philly would have to add in Matt Read or another affordable 2nd/3rd line winger IMO.

SEALBound 03-25-2013 07:03 PM

The Ducks really needed to make a Jordan Staal / Bobby Ryan swap. Helped both teams in a big way.

TorstenFrings 03-25-2013 07:03 PM

Not saying there can't be package around Couturier for Ryan eventually, but is this supposed to happen now? If you are heading into the POs you keep Ryan 10 out of 10. Couturier is currently lightyears away from being a second line center. Bad move for a contender.

Kershaw 03-25-2013 07:03 PM

Maybe if the Flyers add Schenn/Laughton.

Ryan is infinitely more skilled than Couturier.

Basically, it's a future 45/50 point shutdown C for a consistent 30+ goal scorer with size.

Based on what?

I think Ryan is one of the most offensively gifted wingers in the game personally.
