(TOR) Mark Fraser to Edmonton

6'3" 200lbs 26 years old.
used to play for Jersey.

Small Trade but what would it take to get him to Edmonton.
I see him as an upgrade over Potter, Peckham, Teubert and would give Fistrict some competition.

I think this guy would be a solid pick up.

Mystifo 03-26-2013 02:15 PM

He looks great with Franson so beyond an upgrade I say Toronto keeps him.

Heisenberg Blue* 03-26-2013 02:17 PM

Ryan Nugent Hopkins. He only has 2 goals, he's a flop.

We could give Fraser, and maybe throw in a guy like Colborne, and a 4th (if they give back a 5th).

stakesishigh 03-26-2013 02:19 PM

We're not interested nor are we in any condition to be trading Fraser who has been fantastic for us this season.

HOCKEYGOON 03-26-2013 02:20 PM

He's been a great fit in Toronto... I don't think we trade him.

Holzer would be more realistic.

Drew311 03-26-2013 02:22 PM

Fraser has been arguably our 2nd most reliable defenseman this season. I'm not making it out like he's some untouchable piece, but considering Gunnarsson, Kostka, Holzer, Liles, etc. have been extremely inconsistent, giving up one of our better defensive d-men would be silly.

WildcatMapleLeafs28 03-26-2013 02:23 PM

I would have said his value was a 4th rounder or mid round pick until SanJose got 2 2nd rounders for Murray. IMO unless it's an offer we can't refuse , Leafs keep him. He's been a pleasant surprise this season and one of the Leafs more reliable guys..

sommervr 03-26-2013 02:23 PM

Fraser has been great. Youngish cheap tough bottom pairing guy.

If Doug Murray got 2x2nd, Fraser should be able to get a single 2nd on his own

Pittsburgh really blew out the price market with that deal....

thepatient 03-26-2013 02:28 PM

Not on the block. Outside of a serious overpayment (not likely since he is not a game changer) or if he is part of a package for #1 centre, goalie or d-man, he is staying on the Leafs.

RomanianLeafs 03-26-2013 02:28 PM

in january a 4th rd pick would have been enough..now he`s worth a lot for us so no reason to trade him for a 3rd rd pick or something like that..

jumptheshark 03-26-2013 02:30 PM

oilers would need to send a d-man back in return

havent followed Leafs... are these 2 NHL regulars? Holzer has better hits stats so Im guessing is a shut down defensive Dman.. Kostka .. a PP specialist\puck mover?

frankthetank91 03-26-2013 02:37 PM

Not interested. He's in the McClement category of a hardworker, solid who holds more value to us then another team.

Hmmm maybe Cherry was on to something. 2 good Ontario boys.

I wouldn't say that exactly... unless 30 seconds of fake shots is what you want

Holzer has been a long term defensive project. Physical, stay-at-home player. Carlyle exposed him this season by putting him on the top pairing with Phaneuf, which killed his confidence and he was recently sent to the AHL. He'll be a soild bottom pairing d-man eventually.

Kostka has been a career AHLer up until this season. Put up big points down there but it isn't translating in the NHL. He's very erratic and makes risky plays. He's a fringe NHL defenseman but could be an ok bottom pairing/2nd PP for a team in need of that kind of d-man.

Both guys are on the verge of making it to the NHL. Kostka is 27 and has been great as a PMD in the AHL, and was relied on heavily for some reason on the Leafs at the start - he's now #7 Dman.

Holzer is young and a shut-down type player. He still has a lot to learn and may grow into a #5/6 dman.

Warden of the North 03-26-2013 02:56 PM

Hes not going anywhere without ridiculous overpayment happening. Carlyle has handled him perfectly, and hes thrived in his role.

Its not that hes a blossoming top pairing dman, hes just been SO solid for us in his role, and theres no one I see ready to step in and replace him. He also adds en element of toughness and fighting to our D-corps, which is something it lacks overall.

hes going to be key for us closing out the season

ChesapeakeRipper 03-26-2013 02:59 PM

we're not moving fraser. he's been great on our blue-line and is a great physical presence when compared against our other d-men. barring an overpayment, he's not going anywhere. so if Edm wants him, it's going to be a 2nd rd pick for the return.

Smif 03-26-2013 03:05 PM

He's like this years Jason Garrison except the defensive D-man version. I wouldn't trade him for what SJS got for Murray and that's a lot. If we traded him we'd have to find someone just like him for a playoff run.

Pinto 03-26-2013 03:10 PM

As pretty much everyone else has said, he's been very solid for us this year.

Can't afford to trade him right now.

jiminygillickrs 03-26-2013 03:12 PM

He WOULD be a solid pickup for the Oilers.

That being said however, the Leafs won't be trading this guy anytime soon. He's been stellar for us so far.

caribouPINE 03-26-2013 03:12 PM

He's worth more to Toronto than the 2nd or 3rd round pick a team would be willing to trade for him.

/end thread.

This. I wouldn't trade him for a second, not worth it. Unless its a top prospect/1st round pick (which a team would be crazy to pay) I keep him. If the Leafs were in the bottom of the league, I'd take the 2nd/3rd

WilliamNylander 03-26-2013 03:19 PM

2nd and a 3rd...probably more at the deadline though
