Audacious moves by Ray Shero are deserving of a quote by Robert Pinsky, perhaps the finest American poet since the death of Robert Lowell.

Quote:

When I had no roof I made
Audacity my roof. When I had
No supper my eyes dined.

When I had no eyes I listened.
When I had no ears I thought.
When I had no thought I waited.

When I had no father I made
Care my father. When I had
No mother I embraced order.

When I had no friend I made
Quiet my friend. When I had no
Enemy I opposed my body.

When I had no temple I made
My voice my temple. I have
No priest, my tongue is my choir.

When I have no means fortune
Is my means. When I have
Nothing, death will be my fortune.

Need is my tactic, detachment
Is my strategy. When I had
No lover I courted my sleep.

Open for business! Thanks for the work, as always.

Bruins slept walked through the first period. They are awake in the 2nd.

They would really benefit from Iggy....ugh

I think the deal breaker is not having a forward/center available for trade, judging from all the rumours about what Boston's offering.

Fair points. I should have phrased it differently:

Everyone wants Iginla. We may not get him. What is the price that is too high for all of you?

Anyone other than Beau/Harrington/Despres is fine to trade prospect/rookie wise?
Giving up the 1st is okay, etc....?

mr sidney crosby 03-27-2013 07:47 PM

Not really anybody on the market except Iginla

Dying Alive 03-27-2013 07:47 PM

I'd be pissed if Bennett or Despres were traded. I'd be pissed if Pouliot was traded IF it didn't result in a Cup win. The rest I'd probably be more or less ok with, and the 1st I wouldn't care much about at all.

WhatsaMaatta 03-27-2013 07:48 PM

A first plus Pouliot/Maata is too much, given that Morrow was already dealt. Despres and Bennett are untouchable, obviously.

Personally, I wouldn't want Beau/Despres/DePo to be a part of the deal. Especially since J.Morrow was shipped out for B.Morrow. If Shero would have sent Maata, TK, and a first I'd be ecstatic.

Steep price, but Iggy is a epitome of a warrior. He's never hurt, put up points every season and would have been cash money on Sid's wing.

Looks like we will get to find out soon enough...

zero8771 03-27-2013 07:49 PM

Honestly I'm not down with any top prospect + 1st besides Maata. I think Shero would deal most of our prospects + a 1st. I think price for Iginla is more then 1st + Morrow, or we would have him. We'll see

Darth Vitale 03-27-2013 07:49 PM

I think Pouliot might be untouchable too now, unless the team's intention is to find a PPQB this summer or next (FA not the draft). Honestly when they drafted him the way they did (unexpectedly) and talked him up, I was pretty sure it was with a later trade in mind. I figured it would've been him and not Morrow but as Shero said, the other team names the price. I think the Pens just stockpile players of a certain makeup that they like so if they have to give one up they have more.

I don't think though that Maatta is a PPQB type, nor is Elmer so ... Pouliot is one of a kind now.

They are not untouchable. They are untouchable for Iginla, imo

wheelz87 03-27-2013 07:50 PM

I guess it's one thing if they want beau/forward prospect at all costs. All we have heard though is good prospect, solid prospect, and a 1st. If ray doesn't do it because of the 1st then I will be upset. (Obviously assuming the 'good' prospect can be a defenseman)

mpp9 03-27-2013 07:52 PM

Nothing would surprise me. If Shero lands Iginla on a multi-year deal, it makes alot of sense for a team trying to win the Cup now.

If he passes, it's b/c he has other options IMO.

SEALBound 03-27-2013 07:52 PM

Looks like Iggy is gonna be a Bruin. Too quiet for the Penguins if they are truly in the hunt.

Kovifan27 03-27-2013 07:53 PM

Giving up a first for Iggy is the last thing on Shero's mind. If he is going all in that pick most likely means jack next year if the Pens win.

I remember when Hossa was going to be a Hab and Shero swooped in last second and changed that.

They are roster players on entry level deals. The Pens need both of them on the roster going forward for that reason. Once Letang and Geno are resigned, we're going to be in a cap crunch. Both players are untouchable right now.

Ugene Malkin 03-27-2013 07:53 PM

Maata, Jeffrey, Blueger, 1st is a pretty good package. Jeffrey would benefit from this type of move.

Maybe Feaster is trying to get that extra piece out of the deal from Shero to make up the difference?

Maybe Despres, Jeffrey, 1st.

Shero can go in many routes for this.

Mo Wanchuk 03-27-2013 07:54 PM

So does Shero still go out and look for something else? Who?

I have to think once the PO start, Sid's line is going to have absolutely zero room out there. And as much as I love Duper, he just isn't consistent enough to produce or create. I'd also like to know where Morrow is going to slot in. Second line, third line?

mpp9 03-27-2013 07:54 PM

Yep. Shero's programmed to not overpay in trades. We already have with the Morrow trade. Ownership is pushing him to give up what's necessary to win this year.

A resigned Iginla? That's worth a ******** to our team. Gives Sid his RW during his prime.

gordie 03-27-2013 07:55 PM

If Leaster Feaster was asking for Bennett then that is a very obvious we're not interested in Iginla anymore. Good job Ray!!!!!

I'd consider the first deal but it seems like a lot. I think the Pens can win without him, although you always want a guy like Iginla if it's possible.

The second one I'd melt down. IMO Despres should not be traded for a rental, even Jarome Iginla.

BlindWillyMcHurt 03-27-2013 07:57 PM

Some of these proposals are kind of cracking me up. Feaster is kind of a dunce-cap, guys... but he isn't a complete mouth breather. If Shero is going to be doing any "swooping" -- it's going to involve Bennett. Period. It seems to me that Feaster wants a young, legitimate, NHL-ready (or close to it) forward as part of the return. The Penguins have... Bennett. And that's it.

KHstrike 03-27-2013 07:58 PM

I guess the info already hit this board that Iginla was a healthy scratch tonight. I think they said he had some ridiculous consecutive games played streak broken by it. He must be moving like tonight.
