Top 50: Islanders well represented in 11-20 section of 2013 Spring prospect rankings

New York Islanders prospect Ryan Strome leads the 11-20 section of the Hockey's Future Spring ranking of the Top 50 NHL prospects. Strome was one of the most productive players in the OHL this season, and was Mr. Everything for the Niagara IceDogs, figuring into over 40 percent of their total offense. He was not the only notable player to move up in the prospect rankings, however.

Two goaltenders, Andrey Vasilevskiy (TB) and Jacob Markstrom (FLA) moved up considerably in the rankings. Both were already promising prospects on the rise and they further solidified their status as elite prospects with strong seasons at their respective competition levels.… read more

Yeah I don't know about Strome being that high. Especially over 20 spots ahead of Schief, but that's been discussed 10 fold.

Carolina, only team without a prospect in the top 50?

stayinalive 03-28-2013 12:17 PM

Lehner at 31, while Markstrom and Vasilevski make the Top 20 is pure failure

rick hawk 03-28-2013 12:24 PM

I may be biased but I have to wonder about a poll that rates Brandon Saad at 37. The guy is on the top line for the top team in hockey as of right now. He kills penalties, plays the power play and has been averaging a point a game lately. Those are things that many ahead of him can only dream of if all goes well.

This. Renders the list pretty useless.

Agreed...

And where`s Zibby at? he`s a top 50 prospect but should not be top 10 so im a little confused

Dr Jan Itor 03-28-2013 12:28 PM

So, not to single him out but, Jaden Schwartz is seriously considered a better prospect than Jonas Brodin?

I can say without any ounce of homerism that this is flat-out ridiculous.

SickHandsNoShot 03-28-2013 12:41 PM

So who is left for the top 10?

And im assuming Gaudreau isnt in the top ten, but not even top 50 then? :shakehead

Ya, Brodin is rated too lowly, but overall the list hasn't been terrible. A few outliers like Brodin/Trouba but that's expected, it isn't a science.

gretskidoo 03-28-2013 12:52 PM

Kreider sticks out like a sore thumb.

DuckJet 03-28-2013 12:53 PM

And little disappointed that there's no Lindholm on this list. He may not have huge numbers or have played in many games but he's been Norfolk's best defender by quite a large margin as a 19 year old.

Smaller guys are always lowly rated on theses lists. Gallagher is in the running for the Calder now and is barely in the top 50. Same with Conacher, who was listed for the 1st time, and he has 24 points in the NHL right now.

Macch 03-28-2013 12:55 PM

There has always been some favoritism for certain teams. Like St. Louis, LA, and Rangers. Schwartz and Kreider that high? Eh

Rielly
Yakupov
Schultz
Tarasenko
Kuznetsov
Hamilton
Huberdreau
Zibanejad
Baertschi
Galchenyuk

Some might already be on the list.. Just off the top of my head.

Terrible list in all.

bert 03-28-2013 12:59 PM

This 10 spot is a joke I would have taken the group of 21-30 and 31-40 over these guys.

That being said I love that HF puts out this list and its very appreciated so we all have comparables. Kreider at 19 and Silfverberg at 30 HAHA, Reinhart at 13 ahead of Brodin at 20. Markstrom over Lehner no thanks.

Sidney the Kidney 03-28-2013 01:01 PM

IMO, Despres' a bit low on the list. He's already looking like a top four defenseman on a team that's currently on top of the Eastern Conference.

I think whoever ranked him based it on the player he was in his draft year, not based on what he's shown this year in the NHL.

Kreider > everyone else...

You haven't learned yet?

19NYSports91 03-28-2013 01:07 PM

How the hell is Brock Nelson not in the top 50?

He certainly isnt a better prospect then any D men listed in this list. Here is some perspective Wiercioch is playing in Ottawa's to four first pp is 5th in overall rookie scoring and wasnt even on the list. I think Despres was too high to be honest.

Let's say that every team has a blue chip prospect, that's 30 spots right there. The difference between 19 and 30, or 13 and 20 is negligible really. It's a shiny apple versus a shiny apple debate.

MattyMo35 03-28-2013 01:09 PM

So Ty Rattie's back to back 110+ point seasons in the WHL doesn't warrant a spot in the Top 50? Interesting.

Flameshomer 03-28-2013 01:12 PM

If Baert is in the top 10 he's too high, if he's not on the list he's much too low. Either way it's wrong. Likewise for Gaudreau.
