Devils pursuing Jagr?

Devils beat writer Rich Chere:

"A rumor floating around the Devils’ dressing room had Lamoriello trying to get right winger Jaromir Jagr from Dallas Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk. But the Stars are reportedly working on a contract extension for the 41-year-old Jagr."

http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2...quire_goa.html

Makes sense:

-Devils continue to be plagued by injuries at forward
-Even when healthy, the Devils are having problems scoring
-Lou doesn't want to trade big pieces, and if Joe wants to deal then Jagr can likely be had for picks or prospects
-Lou and Nieuwendyk go back a while, back to when Joe played in NJ
-Lou has had success with Czech players in the past (Elias, Sykora, Zidlicky, Holik)

Obviously if Jagr wants to sign an extension this is a moot point, but I think this would be an excellent addition for New Jersey.

Yep.

Wow not shocked. Even at Jagrs age the dude is awesome. Him along with Elias Zajac Kovalchuk Henrique would help big time

Zajacs Bowl Cut 03-28-2013 09:47 PM

I wish, but sadly Chere is a moron.

Elias with Jagr makes me happy in the pants.

Kershaw 03-28-2013 09:52 PM

Would suffer from clinical depression. Can't believe the Rangers former franchise player is going to play for the Devils if true.

Same
:naughty:

If this works out, Jagr would have been all over the Atlantic Division.

If this happens he needs to sign a 1 year deal with the Islanders next year.

But I'd like to see him traded to the Jets, Bruins or Blackhawks before Devils.

He hasn't been an Islander.

Dallas' biggest need is center and right shot D depth. What could NJ offer?

GKJ 03-28-2013 10:01 PM

My question is with the Devils policy on numbers, whether or not he would continue wearing 68

Mogilny wore 89, so he'll probably wear 68 still.

BigG44 03-28-2013 10:03 PM

My goal would be for Dallas to land Damon Severson. Is that realistic?

we don't have the forward depth/forward prospects to dangle but we have a glutton of Dmen. many of our prospects are NHL ready as well, or at least close

hmmm...its definitely a possibility. I do like what I've seen from Severson though

Pohlow 03-28-2013 10:09 PM

If we trade Jagr for picks and prospects we will not make the playoffs. Our powerplay will dry up almost completely. Gonna have to be a big overpayment, I think.

Lou lets established stars keep their signature numbers.

Richer got to keep his 44, Gilmour wore his 93, and Mogilny kept his 89. I'm sure he'd have no issues with Jagr.

Sounds like Peter Harrold is your man :naughty:

Would a depth roster player + a decent pick (say a 3rd or possibly a 2nd) be enough?

Unfortunately no. If you go off of what Dallas' beat reporter Mike Heika is saying, they will only trade Jagr if they are wowed.

They love what Jagr brings to Dallas, and they really want him back next season. Heika mentioned the interest is mutual, but in the past he's mentioned Jagr doesn't like doing contracts during the season. He's mentioned they are willing to risk losing him for nothing in order to take a run at signing him after the season.

IMO, based on his report, you're talking about a prospect coming for Jagr. If NJ isn't willing, that's unfortunate because I do want to see him moved.

Keep in mind, Dallas will add in order to get their man. They are a huge fan of WHL players. The WHL influence is throughout the organization, and the owner obviously has a WHL team in Kamloops. Just like the recent addition of Joe Morrow, Dallas tends to zero in on guys. I would not be surprised at all that Severson is a guy they'd require for Jagr.

huh?

Hivemind 03-28-2013 10:22 PM

It's a Patrick division team, so I'm buying it as a possibility. Then he ends up with the Islanders next year to complete the circuit.

I'd be happy with that return, but there is a growing issue where Dallas has way too many left shot D. I think they'd push hard for Severson, but Urbom would be a more than adequate backup plan.

Killem Dafoe 03-28-2013 10:24 PM

I would honestly cry.

I see, we do have alot of lefty prospects ourselves. I am very high on Severson myself, soo im not sure if I would want to move him.

Maybe a deal revolving around Reece Scarlett, hes a righty. Maybe like Scarlett + Prospect + 3rd . Or just Scarlett + 2nd. Both teams seem like good partners, seeing how the Devils have a plethora of D prospects and thats what Dallas wants. Only one I really would be against moving is Merrill.

Doesn't Lou also have a policy that he cuts off trade talks if rumours get leaked beforehand?

Never confirmed. All speculation. Mostly jokes as well. Just because his moves are never leaked

He's said that he's nixed deals in the past once they leaked, but he seems to be more open about it now.

Both the Kovy and Zidlicky deals went public before they were completed.
