Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) *SPOILERS* Part II

**KEEP IN MIND THIS THREAD CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR A FEAST FOR CROWS and A DANCE WITH DRAGONS**

Previous Thread: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...d.php?t=920289

Here is my speculation on when he will finish The Winds of Winter:

Between Books 2, 3, 4, 5 were 15 years (1996 to 2011) so an average book requires him about 3.5 yrs to publish. If we base the average off of the last two books, we are looking at 5.5 yrs to publish.

Length wise, the books have been 72, 69, 81, 45, and 72 for an average of 68 with page-lengths of 694, 768, 973, 753, 1040 in (US) hardcover for an average of 845 pages.

According to http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php...inds_of_Winter he has 10 chapters completed and confirmed (some new and others removed from ADWD). With 200 pages finished as of March 2012 (at an average of 12pages/chapter in books 1-5, he had completed 16 chapters by then), as of 12 months ago, he was 645 pages and 52 chapters from completion.

I would say, based on the 2yrs since publication of ADWD and the fact he had 25% completed, he is halfway through The Winds of Winter.

Speculation and mathematics lesson over.

Back to the spoilers!

Tooo excited for this. Been reading up toooo many theories for the series, I think I am addicted to the lore. Tonight's episode will do as a fix.

What I find a weird discrepancy between show/book is that in a preview I believe you catch them saying something like 'Mance Rayder has raised the largest army Westeros has ever seen'. If they're really going to play it up like that it could be rather awkward when said army gets smashed.

He says "largest army the North has ever seen". And that was Mance's idea. He gathered the entire North to him to march on the Wall, so it is right in character and exactly what his plan was.

And remember Rayder did have a MUCH larger force than Stannis' few remaining men when he came North, however Rayder's "force" was not an organized military, they were taken by complete surprise and they were flanked by Stannis.

So it's not really a discrepancy at all.

Loved the episode. As GRRM said though, once you make a change there is a domino effect, which is clearly being seen in the Robb story line.

The Barristan part was lame, wish they had done out a full fight with him, to show how truly gifted he was of a swordsman.

The whole Tywin/Tyrion part was excellent, done to a tee. The Davos part was pretty good as well.

The episode did FLY by though, here I thought 50+ minute episodes might be too long.

Ghost with the nites watch.....

No Arya/Jamie...and to a lesser extent Bran.

Oh and Qyburn with Robb, ummm.

Kamal007 04-01-2013 02:02 AM

No strong Belwas either, though I'm pretty sure that was known from the start.

The whole harrenhal thing is probably the worst thing but it probably won't last long since Robb isn't gonna last long.

Also, wasn't there something the unsullied did with puppies that was really ****ed? Was hoping they would bring that up again.

Leaving out Arya/Bran/Jaime/Brienne is ok by me, since their are sooo many characters and I doubt 50 minutes is enough for all of them.

As long as Robb leaves Roose Harrenhall and we get the Jaime/Roose dinner scene then i will be happy.

Loved how the Tyrion/Tywin scene was pretty much straight from the books. Dance and Dinklage nailed it.

Kitten Mittons 04-01-2013 02:09 AM

Man, I barely remember the books anymore.

Is Vargo Hoat in the series? Or they just going with Robb giving Bolton Harrenhal?
What reason did Jon give Mance for switching teams in the books?

"You see where they put the *******"

and Vargo Hoat is cut.

Qyburn with Robb while both are standing in Harrenhall made me wtf.

But Tywins line to Tyrion "I can't PROVE you're not my son" made me lol because the Internet will explode with Tyrion is a Targ rumors again.

They don't seem to be using Belwas, which means Belwas' action will likely go to Barristan, which means we'll likely soon get a nice display of his abilities.

He just uses the staff in the books though, right?

Guess they'll have to change that.

Corto 04-01-2013 05:08 AM

I didn't mind any of the book changes in episode 1, season 3.

All in all, I thought they redeemed the Jon story line with his reasoning to Mance - it was better than in the books.

The only thing that still somewhat bothers me is Ghost not with Jon.

This is the only thing that bothered me in the episode. Otherwise I enjoyed it quite thoroughly. Interactions between Jon/Tormund/Mance, Davos/Sallador, Tywin/Tyrion and Dany/Missandei/slave trader were all made perfectly. The ending was great also.

That was pretty weak the battle on the fist of the first men. I thought Sam the slayer would use the dragon glass on one but no, Samwell Tarly can't do **** right.

"did you send the ravens Tarly?"

was the girl with scorpion ball given to Dany a sand viper/snake?

They played it out like she was connected to the warlocks of Qarth. If I recall correctly, the assasination attempt in the books was made by the faceless men, but the chance made sense in TV-perspective.

Yah, I wasn't sure.

I know Oberyn Martell is in this season so I figured it was maybe like a sneak peak or whatever at him.

Nope. Puh-lease.
Faceless Men do not fail.

The assassination attempt in the books was done by Sorrowful Men.

I thought the same but it was only a whyte. I think he will have his day with a WW and the dragon glass.
