Week of April 1st to 7th: Sunday Papers
Sunday, April 7th Jets news :

Note: Stay tuned to @illegalcurve as we will be at practice today and will have post-practice player and coach Noel audio.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets remain predictably unpredictable. Gary is 100% right. Who knows what is next. However to get a sniff of playoffs, they are going to have to turn on the afterburners and torch the competition. They no longer have the luxury of finishing .500. They need a significant run over the next eight games to give themselves a chance.

Winnipeg Free Press: As goes Kane, so go the Jets. The Jets got primary scoring from their big guns and Evander Kane’s goal really put the exclamation point on the game for Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Free Press: Top trio steps up. We see what can happen when the Jets top line is engaged.

Winnipeg Sun: Finally find net in big way. Four unanswered goals in the 2nd period. As we tweeted yesterday, who are these guys and what have they done with the Jets? For those watching it was nice to finally see some pucks finding the back of the opposition net. Ken also covers boost by Redmond visit, Schenn taking an Enstrom slapper and the organization adds some goalie depth.

Winnipeg Sun: Yo-Yo Jets bring A game. Time to get off that merry-go-round of inconsistency. Playoff teams have to show a consistency that has eluded Winnipeg so far. Will they be able to get things changed up in the final three weeks of the season?

Winnipeg Sun: Jets stop the losing. Time to start a new streak. With games against Buffalo (Tuesday) and Florida (Thursday) the Jets can very easily swing the momentum and their fortunes around quickly.

Jets affiliate and prospect news:

CBC: IceCaps lose to Marlies. One of the lone bright spots for St. John's this season has been the play of Eric O'Dell who scored a couple of goals in the loss to Toronto, pushing his total on the season to 28 in 52 games.

Winnipeg Free Press: College goalie Olkinuora signs with Winnipeg, reports say. Always good to add some depth at goalie. If you want a more in-depth look at who this young netminder is Hockey's Future did a feature on him a few days ago.

Barrie Colts: Mark Scheifele and his Barrie team mates attempt to make it seven wins in a row in Game 3 action tonight at 6:05 pm EST as they take on the Oshawa Generals in Oshawa.

Jets on a Deadline – Jets 4 Flyers 1:

Winnipeg Jets: Evander Kane, Bryan Little, Ondrej Pavelec and Andrew Ladd.

Coach Noel post-game presser. Following his team’s 4-1 win over the Flyers, coach Noel spoke with the media.

Philadelphia Flyers: Coach Laviolette, Luke Shenn, Steve Mason and Scott Hartnell.

Illegal Curve Post-game podcast from the Press box: Host Drew Mindell and Analyst Richard Pollock break down the Jets play against the Flyers.

Jets on a Deadline: Game recaps, post-game audio, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.

Scoreboard watch tonight: Islanders @ Devils | Hurricanes @ Canadiens.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Transformation week for Jets. This is an edge of your seats for the Jets players and fans alike. The team has two critical games before the trade deadline on Wednesday. Who will stay and who will go will be on everyone’s mind and be sure to stick with @illegalcurve for any breaking Jets news.

Winnipeg Free Press: Ticket prices gain altitude. Not really much of a surprise with the increase.

Winnipeg Sun: Dustin Byfuglien needs to be more consistent: head coach Claude Noel. Time to get off the roller coaster and get the Big Buff ride going smoothly for the rest of the Jets games.

Illegal Curve: Examining Winnipeg Jets trade options as deadline day approaches. What are the Winnipeg Jets trade deadline needs? We discussed this in-depth on Saturday’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN Radio 1290.

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel pre-trip presser. Guys who weren’t on the ice were just for maintenance? Slater and Peluso are only guys not traveling. How close is Stuart? Does he get busier with trade deadline upcoming? Top line has been playing well but not scoring goals…concern? Does trade deadline impact the room? Dustin Byfuglien’s play. Expectations from the Rangers. Not getting too high or low after a win or loss – scheduling or maturing? Ends scrum talks about play of Pavelec.

Illegal Curve: Jets players pre-trip. We have audio from Dustin Byfuglien, Ondrej Pavelec, Mark Stuart and Ron Hainsey.

Jets affiliate and prospect news:

CBC: IceCaps defeat Sharks. Nice 25th birthday for Ben Maxwell who tied the game with under a minute to go in the 3rd period and then won it for St. John’s in OT. While the team has been much better of late (6-3-0-1 in last 10) they remain 10 points out of the playoffs with 15 games remaining in the AHL season.

Barrie Colts: 2nd Round of OHL playoffs announced. While the Colts are still unsure of their opponent (will either be Oshawa or Mississauga) the next round starts on Wednesday, April 3rd for Mark Scheifele and company. The Jets 1st round pick in 2011 currently is third in OHL playoff scoring.

NCAA: UMass-Lowell going to first Frozen Four. The Jets selection in the 5th round of the 2012 entry draft, Connor Hellebuyck has been sensational this season going 20-2-0 as the starter and leading the River Hawks to their first Frozen Four.

Opposition (Rangers) news:

Newsday: Slumping Rangers practice on Easter Sunday. As coach Noel acknowledged they will be meeting a desperate team in New York tonight. Hopefully the Jets will show equal desperation when the two teams clash.

New York Times: Lacking offense Rangers are in danger of missing playoffs. How many people would have predicted that a team with this much talent could be fighting for its playoff lives as we rush towards the end of the regular season?

New York Post: Callahan releases statement renouncing Avery comments. In case you missed it, former agitator Sean Avery tweeted “Fire this CLOWN. His players hate him and wont play for his BS…. @imseanavery is #winning” and not surprisingly the captain of the Blueshirts is standing up to those comments.

NHL news:

Globe and Mail: All eyes on the Penguins. Can GM Shero still have some moves left in his arsenal? The Penguins, sans Sid the Kid, will be looking to add to their 15 game win streak and possibly also eliminate the Sabres from contention on Tuesday.

Columbus Dispatch: Jackets win again. While we are very Eastern-centric while the Jets are in that Conference, it bears noting he remarkable run that Columbus has been on of late. While St. Louis is just a point back with three games in hand, the Jackets are in sole possession of 8th in the West.

Globe and Mail: Reimer proving Leafs don’t need Luongo. The pride of Morweena, Manitoba, many around these parts want to see him get a chance to prove himself in the post season. Will the Leafs brass have faith that the guy who got them into the playoffs can do the job once they are in?

Tuesday Papers
Tuesday, April 2nd Jets and NHL news:

Note: Make sure to @ tweet @illegalcurve with your guess during tonight’s game you can win IC Gear by participating in our twitter Game Winning Goal. Remember that for your vote to qualify you must send in your guess by hashtaging (#) our Game Winning Goal (GWG) contest. (i.e. #ICGWG Hainsey).

Scoreboard watch tonight: Capitals @ Hurricanes | Panthers @ Lightning.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Panic time in Jetsville. Two more games in three days will be the Jets opportunity to put an end to the losing streak and regain some credibility.

Winnipeg Free Press: Time is running out to prove playoff cred. If Olli Jokinen truly believes that this team has what it takes to be a playoff team, then it is time to show that.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets say ticket prices among lowest for Canadian teams. As a consumer do you really care about the vagaries in ticket pricing in Winnipeg?

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets crash against Rangers. When the Jets failed to capitalize on the 5 on 3 opportunity (failing to register a shot) and then gave up a shorthanded goal to Ryan Callahan, you knew that it was going to be a long night. Pavelec was sensational again. The Jets just didn’t have any finish yesterday. But no time to cry over what could have been as they have a date on Long Island with some Islanders. The only good news is the teams around the Jets continue to lose as well as the Carolina Hurricanes dropped a critical game to Montreal last night.

Winnipeg Sun: Rangers make Jets pay for poor PP with 4-2 win. The time for pointing fingers is done. This cannot simply be blamed on one or two players. Hockey is a team game and the entire team needs to pick it up and play 60 minutes of hockey. About the only guy on this team who is blameless is Ondrej Pavelec who kept the Jets in the game on numerous occasions.

Winnipeg Sun: Chevy says Jets can be both buyers and sellers. After reading this article I know two things; 1) The Jets can be buyers and 2) they can also be sellers. Everyone knows what this team needs and the question is do they have the assets to pry this type of player away from another team. We discussed what the Jets can do and what they need to do in-depth on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show this past Saturday.

Winnipeg Sun: Clitsome suffers eye injury but coach thinks he’ll be OK. It appeared to be a nothing play but upon further review you could see that Burmistrov’s stick caught him just under the visor, near his eye. Glad to hear he will be alright. Will be interesting to see if he is available to play tonight against the Islanders.

Winnipeg Sun: Putrid power play kills Winnipeg Jets momentum. There is nothing special about the Jets special teams. We have been calling for an end to the Olli Jokinen experiment on the point and clearly it isn’t working. When you are given these types of opportunities in a close game, this can usually be the difference between winning and losing.

Jets on a Deadline – Rangers 4 Jets 2:

Illegal Curve: Jets on a Deadline. Game recaps, coach Noel post-game, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night

Opposition (Islanders) news:

New York Post: Islanders beat Devils, stay on course for playoff spot. As has been the case with spots 7-13 in the Eastern Conference nobody is ready to separate themselves from the pack. Isles are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.

ESPN: Islanders continue playoff push. They have been quite streaky this season but are in the mix for a playoff spot.

NHL news:

CBC: Leafs allowed to speak with Miika Kiprusoff. Not sure about this move as the Leafs goaltending tandem has served admirably in their current role. Reimer’s numbers are better than Kiprusoff’s, which leads you to believe that the Leafs just want the veteran in case the playoff rookies were to falter.

Calgary Herald: Feaster shoulders blame for Flames’ woes. Always big of a GM to take it on the chin and admit that it is his fault that his club is struggling. If he continues to have the support of ownership, and there is nothing indicating that he doesn’t at this point, how he moves the Flames forward can go a long way to repairing his reputation in that town.

Calgary Herald: Flames deal Bouwmeester to Blues. After the trade of Iginla each subsequent deal will be much less painful for Calgary fans although Alberta product Jay Bouwmeester will leave a big defensive hole on this team.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Blues acquire Bouewmeester. Taking a look at the deal from the St. Louis perspective.

Buffalo News: Sabres send Regehr to Kings. This was the big news of the day until the above trade broke. The fire sale in Buffalo is on and don’t count GM Regier as done just yet. Could still get a few deals done as GMs from across the league desperate to keep up with the arms race, make offers that can help him rebuild this Sabres team.

Wednesday Papers
Wednesday, April 3rd Jets, NHL and trade news:

Note: Tune into the NHL Mid-Week Show on TSN Radio 1290 tonight from 6 pm to 8 pm as the guys discuss all the latest NHL news and break down all the trades that took place before and during trade deadline day.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Sent packing by the Islanders. It was a loss the Jets simply could not afford if they want to be a playoff team. While they maintain a slim lead in the Southeast division race, all the teams below them have games in-hand.

Winnipeg Free Press: Buff takes a shine to playing wing. He didn’t seem very enthused post-game. Only person who knows if this will continue is coach Claude Noel and he wasn’t revealing any of his lineup moves following the loss.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets lose to Islanders, lose fourth straight. Not that there is ever a good time to go on a losing streak, but the Jets have picked an inopportune time to go on their longest one of the season.

Winnipeg Sun: Add at deadline without trading. Many, including Buff and Ladd were surprised to see Dustin Byfuglien start the 3rd period as a forward. So the Jets now have a scoring winger that gives them some much needed depth. Of course, despite Buff saying that he would do whatever the team needs to win, you got the sense that he won’t be happy as a forward.

Illegal Curve: 2012 1st round draft pick Jacob Trouba signs. The big news for Jets fans yesterday was the signing of Jacob Trouba who is leaving the University of Michigan to joint the Jets. Included in this post is a post-game scrum with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff discussing the move to bring Trouba to Winnipeg.

Jets on a Deadline – Islanders 5 Jets 2:

Illegal Curve: Jets on a Deadline. Game recaps, post-game audio, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.

NHL news:

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Penguins’ winning streak gets no fond farewell. And just like that the Pittsburgh 15 game winning streak is over. One positive is Jarome Iginla scored his first goal as a member of the Penguins.

News and Observer: Pitkanen injury to fuel icing debate. Another completely unnecessary injury that could have been avoided if the NHL implemented hybrid icing. Hurricane fans couldn’t have been happy seeing Pitkanen leaving the ice on a stretcher last night as the Canes took and lost to division rival Capitals.

Trade news:

Globe and Mail: Decision time for Kiprusoff and Leafs. While the talk around the league is that the goalie market is not that interesting the chatter regarding Kiprusoff has yet to cease.

San Jose Mercury News: Dealing Ryane Clowe a tough call for Sharks. You’ve never seen so much excitement for a player who has scored exactly zero goals this season in 28 games. Some will point out that he is able to put the puck in the net when it matters (i.e. playoffs) but if your team isn’t in the playoffs, not sure how much that scoring will help.

Boston Herald: B’s score with Jaromir Jagr. A nice scoring option added by Boston giving them some added offensive deoth after they lost out on the Iginla sweepstakes. It is hard to believe that he is 41 years old.

The Province: Canucks land Roy, now look for someone to play with Kesler. As Richard said on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show this is a perfect fit for the Canucks.

Scoreboard watch tonight: Devils @ Bruins | Flyers @ Leafs | Islanders @ Capitals | Lightning @ Hurricanes |

Jets news:

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel pre-game from Bell Centre. Talking about Mike Santorelli. Buff as a forward. Was the team distracted by trade deadline? Why are guys pressing? Expectations of the Habs. Evaluation of how team has handled last few weeks. Play of Aaron Gagnon. Signing of Jacob Trouba.

Winnipeg Free Press: Sticking to his BLUEPRINT. The heat might be temporarily off GM Cheveldayoff but he is going to have a lot of work with all the contracts he has to negotiate this summer.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets talk but make no deals at deadline. Considering the inflated prices you pay for players sometimes inactivity is the best move possible. Of course that is easier said than done since you often get vilified for failing to make a move.

Winnipeg Free Press: Down the stretch they come. We are in the final laps of this race and with 10 games remaining the Jets are going to need to go on a decent run to ensure a post season position.

Winnipeg Free Press: Waiver wire pickups. The Jets have certainly not been afraid to claim players via the waiver wire.

Winnipeg Sun: Dustin Byfuglien is the answer on right wing. The subject of much debate all season long will we see Big Buff at forward tonight against the Canadiens?

Winnipeg Sun: Jets open Jacob Trouba door just a crack. Paul had a chance to speak with Trouba’s coach. Sounds like it might be the slow development plan after all.

Winnipeg Sun: Claim centre Santorelli off waivers, Antropov on shelf. It was an underwhelming day for Jets fans. One waiver wire pick up and no trades. The player many expected to potentially see on the move was hurt against the Rangers and will be out of the lineup for next couple of weeks.

Jets prospect news:

- Jacob Trouba will wear #3.

- Adam Lowry has signed an ATO (Amateur Try Out) with the St. John’s IceCaps.

Yahoo: Zach Hall, Mark Scheifele bail out battered Barrie in opener vs. Oshawa. While all Jets fans have been focused on the 2012 1st round pick, Winnipeg’s 2011 1st round pick played Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal of the OHL playoffs. Nate Sager breaks down all the action from last night’s win over Oshawa and the Generals attempts to drive Scheifele nuts.

Opposition (Canadiens) news:

Montreal Gazette: Bergevin talked trade, for naught. With the way the Habs are positioned (2nd in the Eastern Conference) it is hard to argue the value of messing with team chemistry.

Montreal Gazette: Flyers post comeback win over Habs. The Jets had the luxury of time off while their rivals tonight had a tough game against Philadelphia last night.

NHL news:

Edmonton Journal: Right now, the Edmonton Oilers are in the playoffs. Taylor Hall had a big night (five points) as he led his Oilers past their provincial rival Flames in a 8-2 drubbing in Calgary.

USA Today: Newcomers lift New York Rangers to 6-1 rout of Penguins. The Penguins now have a two game losing streak and Ryane Clowe scored his first two goals of the season.

Trade news:

TSN: Several trades made just before NHL trade deadline. Good thing that tradecentre started at 7 am.

NHL.com: Team by team breakdown. There wasn’t much action for most of the day but a flurry of activity as the deadline came to an end.

Scoreboard watch tonight: Devils @ Bruins | Flyers @ Leafs | Islanders @ Capitals | Lightning @ Hurricanes |

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets to raffle off first team licence plate. A very cool idea to raise more money for charity. 15,004 tickets available for purchase to get a chance to be drawn and win the first Jets licence plate. Something tells me all 15,004 will sell and raise an additional $300,080.00 for charity.

CBC: Winnipeg Jets licence plates raise $800K for charity. Not a bad cheque for the foundation which was raised through the generosity of Manitobans.

Winnipeg Free Press: Byfuglien moves to forward as Jets chase playoff spot. Desperate times call for desperate measures and while this reeks of desperation, with just a few goals by the forward corps over the last few days, coach Noel felt the need to make a radical move.

Winnipeg Sun: Looking to snap funk against Canadiens. The Jets had the day off yesterday while Montreal played a heavy game against the Flyers. Can the Jets take advantage of this? We shall see.

Winnipeg Sun: Adam Lowry joining IceCaps. He had a beast of a final year in junior playing for the Swift Current Broncos and now will take his skills to the East coast as he signed an ATO to play with the Jets farm club.

Friday Papers
Friday, April 5th Jet news:

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Weak, flat, Jets no longer on top. The Jets have nine games remaining to show fans exactly who this team is. Whether that is a playoff bound team or a team needing massive change, we shall see soon.

Winnipeg Free Press: Wheeler’s disallowed goal symbolic of frustrating times. I felt like I was time warped back to 1999 and suddenly we were using Brett Hull standards. Wheeler was marginally in the crease but it certainly didn’t appear that he interfered with Peter Budaj. Even so, a team has to be able to handle something like a disallowed goal, and continue to push.

Winnipeg Free Press: Trounced by Habs, fall out of playoff spot. However you want to spin in the above standings do not lie. They tell a tale of a team that has fallen from grace by virtue of five straight losses.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets lose 5th straight. Can the season be saved? Absolutely but it is going to take a lot as the buffer the Jets had built for themselves has evaporated.

Winnipeg Sun: Late season collapse typical. Paul covers the lack of movement made by Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, past haunting Jets present, Buff, Burmistrov, missed opportunities and what is happening on the farm.

Winnipeg Sun: Buff’s not the stuff. It was certainly an interesting post-game chat with the media from coach Claude Noel following the loss. He certainly didn’t mince words. This quote was the most telling I thought of how coach Noel felt about Big Buff, “This isn’t the first time that they have put a puck at the net and he is standing beside the guy without taking stick, so after awhile you just can’t continue down that road. If you’re not going to make changes, don’t play!”.

Globe and Mail: Jets try to hold a fragile division lead despite lack of playoff-hardened players. This article came out just before puck drop last night but it discusses the number of players who haven’t yet played a single playoff game in the NHL on this team.

Jets on a Deadline – Canadiens 4 Jets 1:

Illegal Curve: Jets on a Deadline. Game recaps, coach Noel post-game video, video highlights from the game and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.

Friday Afternoon, April 5th Jet news:

Note: Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN Radio 1290 on Saturday as the guys discuss all the latest Winnipeg Jets and NHL news. Take note that the show starts at 8 am until 11 am as a result of the Jets game beginning at 2 pm. Guests: Aaron Portzline (Columbus Dispatch) and Anthony San Fillipo (Flyers Inside Out).

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: A ‘miracle’ Redmond back on ice: doctors. He went from life threatening condition, to recuperation to coming to see his team mates to skating with the injured Jets players. Quite a remarkable young man.

Winnipeg Sun: Alex Burmistrov relieved he’s staying put. He has been much better of late. He seems to get a lot of attention because it appears some are looking for the faults.

TSN: Lack of offence continues to be major issue with Jets. While some have been blaming Pavelec the losing skid is directly attributable to a lack of scoring. It is really that simple.

Illegal Curve: Winnipeg Jets coach Claude Noel scrum from MTS IcePlex. With his team on a five game slide, coach Noel held an optional practice at the IcePlex today and met with the media following same.

Illegal Curve: Market Research Survey to gauge potential interest in WHL franchise in Winnipeg. It seems like fans in Winnipeg really like the idea of WHL hockey in this city. Answer our poll question now.

Saturday Papers
Saturday, April 6th Jets, Jets prospect, Jets opposition (Flyers) and NHL news :

Note: Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN Radio 1290 today as the guys discuss all the latest Winnipeg Jets and NHL news. Take note that the show starts at 8 am until 11 am as a result of the Jets game beginning at 2 pm. Guests: Aaron Portzline (Columbus Dispatch) and Anthony San Fillipo (Flyers Inside Out).

Scoreboard watch tonight: Leafs @ Devils | Lightning @ Islanders | Rangers @ Hurricanes | Capitals @ Panthers |

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Big Buff back in his comfort zone. As much as fans want to see Big Buff as a forward, he has been playing defence for the past few years, a position he has stated over and over again is the one he prefers playing.

Winnipeg Free Press: Stop me if you’ve heard this before. The time for platitudes was over just as the buzzer sounded after that first Washington Capitals 4-0 drubbing back on March 21st. Even after that defeat, the Jets needed a middling finish to have a good chance at the playoffs. Instead this team has gone two wins and seven losses since (including the first loss to Capitals) and have fallen out of a post season position.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jacob’s ladder starts here. Fans are excited at the prospect of seeing #3 getting his first game action with the Jets but with Winnipeg in a tight playoff race, will coach Noel and company give the young gun a chance early? Or might they wait a few games when he has had more practice under his belt and the Jets position in the Eastern Conference is better established?

Winnipeg Free Press: ‘I feel lucky to be here’. Redmond’s star was rising before his horrific accident. When we spoke with Robin Short of The Telegram in St. John’s prior to the season starting he indicated that Redmond had become the number one defensive prospect with the IceCaps. Once he arrived in Winnipeg coach Noel and company started to give him more and more responsibility. Hopefully his miraculous recovery continues at this breakneck speed and he will be 100% before too long.

Winnipeg Sun: Shades of Thrashers past for Jets? Many Thrashers fans can all too easily understand this late season swoon from a team that appeared destined for the playoffs.

Winnipeg Sun: Needing home ice magic. Can the Jets find the magic they had on home ice last season? If they want to save/salvage this season they are going to have to find a way to put the home ice advantage back into the MTS Centre. Hopefully the 15,004 in the house for today’s matinee will be amped up for playoff like hockey because if things don’t turn around immediately, it will be the closest they will get to meaningful games.

Winnipeg Sun: Zach Redmond back on the ice for Jets after gruesome skate cut. It is quite simply amazing to see Redmond on the ice considering that many thought he would be lucky to get back to training sometime next season.

Winnipeg Free Press: Byfuglien on defence as Jets try to regain lost ground. The experiment at forward didn’t last long. Looks like James Wright is a healthy option for Coach Noel.

Winnipeg Free Press: New run of Jets licence plates will include those for motorcycles. For all those who missed out on your chance to own one of these the first time around, you are getting another opportunity to purchase a Jets licence plate.

Jets prospect news:

Barrie Colts: Theoret hat-trick powers Colts past Oshawa 4-1. Mark Scheifele and his Barrie Colts just keep winning as they remain undefeated early in the OHL playoffs. Scheifele added an assist in the Game 2 victory and is now tied for the OHL playoff points lead.

Opposition (Flyers) news:

Globe and Mail: Schenn finds a perfect mentor in Chris Pronger. Cannot hurt to have a player of Pronger’s skill providing you with advice on how to develop your game.

Philly.com: Mason wants to stick around. What an amazing career arc of goalie Steve Mason who became the undisputed starter in Columbus back in 2008-09 and has now been relegated to the role of back-up in Philadelphia. Good news for Flyers fans is he is just 24 years old and feels he can still be a #1 goalie in the NHL.

NHL news:

CBC: Lockout season is in for a wild three-week finish. Lockout? What lockout? We are in for quite the final stretch as teams that looked done for the season are heating up for the stretch run.

San Jose Mercury News: Sharks rally for seventh consecutive win. Remember the Sharks who were done like dinner? Well they have rode the wave to 4th in the Western Conference. Such is the NHL right now that a decent hot streak can see a team rocket up the standings.

Globe and Mail: Why concussion became a four-letter word in the NHL. As per usual Roy pens an interesting article, this time about the NHL problem with concussions.

Globe and Mail: Keeping the Leafs on the cutting edge. Could you imagine needing a new pair of skates every 10 days to two weeks? Leafs Dion Phaenuf burns through a ton of new skates each season.
