Nation's best team.

Not sure if this belongs in the history thread but....

Who do you consider to be your best all time team representing your country.

For the U.S. I think it has to be the 96 W.C. team. A center core that consisted of Modano, LaFontaine, Weight, Otto and Rolston. LeClair, Tkachuk, Guerin and Hull on the wings plus a D core featuring the likes of Suter, Chelios, Housley and Leetch....all backstopped by Richter, the U.S. never before or since had such a plethora of talent.

For the Soviet Union/Russia, would it be the 1981 team? For Canada, would it be the 76, 87 or 2010 team?

Easy answer for GB: 1936 Olympics

inb4 typical "hurr durr your team was all Canadians"

For Canada it has to be 1976. Loaded with tremendous players, and most of them were still in or near their primes.

For Finland it's 2006 Olympic team or 2004 world cup team.

On paper 04 team is better but the 2006 team played the best hockey i have seen our National team play.

For Sweden it would be the 2006 Olympic team, although the 1987 WC team that won gold over the soviets is worth looking more into as well.

Well it's hard to pick any other team than the 2002 World Championship winning team for Slovakia. They are to this day the only Slovak team to win a gold medal.

So I pick them, ahead of the 2010 Slovak Olympic team.

Gotta agree with the 1996 U.S. World Cup team. The golden generation of U.S. hockey. Several Hall-of-Famers and a bunch more that were among the best at their positions.

For Germany I am pretty sure it's the 1976 team that won the bronze medal in Innsbruck.
Erich Kühnhackl, Alois Schloder, Udo Kießling, Franz Reindl, Ernst Köpf and Lorenz Funk are some of the best German players of all time, and the Coach Xaver Unsinn does not only have one of the greates names ever (his last name translates as "nonsense"), but he is an absolute legend amongst German hockey coaches.

Despite they didn't win a medal, the 2002 Czech Olympic team was just filthy.

For Russia the team between 1978 and 1984.

I would say that was the best hockey team ever assembled in the world.

Given there will be no injuries, will see the best of Slovenia's hockey at the next years Olympics.

2004 team doesn't even come close to the 2006 team. Practically the whole first line was at 50% health. I'd go even as far as say the 1994 World Championship team. Very good roster and very effective. If only the ref hadn't missed that tripping by Brindamour on Kurri...
