Ryane Clowe vs the East

I don't know much about his fighting prowess coming from the West.

Which class does he fall into? how would he fare against the following:

Orr
Engelland
Thorton
Parros
Scott
Lucic
Carkner
Barch
Simmonds
Martin
Prust
Janssen
Boulton
Clarkson

etc.

Sheppy 04-03-2013 07:14 PM

He won't be fighting heavies much i don't think. I can see him fighting the Martins, McQuaids, Clarksons and Prusts. He will have the occasional heavyweight tilt, though.

PJ StockBB 04-03-2013 07:37 PM

i want to see him fight Lucic. the two best old school skilled power forwards in the game.

he will probably stay away from the super heavyweights like mclaren but i can see him going against guys like Engelland (already did), Thornton (already did) and such

AbsolonMoreau* 04-03-2013 09:07 PM

He will fight anyone and everyone, he has already easily beaten Parros when he was on the Ducks.

soothsayer 04-04-2013 03:04 AM

On a good day he will give Lucic a run for his money. Guys like Simmonds and Barch should stay clear of him. Dude is tough as nails.

Leidi J 04-04-2013 05:00 AM

He actually has fought a bunch of those guys you listed.
I looked this up for another post a while ago, but it seems relevant to this thread. To get an idea of who he's going up against.
Ryane Clowe's career fights:

Justin Abdelkader
Bryan Allen
Krys Barch (3)
Matt Beleskey
Paul Bissonnette
Michael Blunden
Jered Boll
Sheldon Brookbank (3)
Troy Brouwer
Mike Brown
Kyle Clifford
Mike Commodore
Matt Corente
Jeff Cowan (2)
BJ Crombeen (3)
Guillaume Desbiens
Derek Dorsett
Deryk Engelland
Jonathan Ericsson
Matt Greene (3)
Ryan Hollweg
Kent Huskins
Jerome Iginla
Tim Jackman (4)
Zack Kassian
Ian Laperriere
Ryan Malone
Jamal Mayers (2)
Steve Montador
Shane O'Brien
George Parros
Theo Peckham
Brandon Prust
Erik Reitz
Aaron Rome
Cory Sarich
Wayne Simmonds
Jason Strudwick
Shawn Thornton
Jordin Tootoo
Jim Vandermeer
Mike Weber
Daniel Winnik (2)

If you want to go off of the voting at Hockeyfights.com (which isn't exactly scientific, but short of watching all the videos and judging yourself)

He has 32 wins, 13 draws, and 5 losses. Personally as a Shark fan I can't remember the last time I saw him lose a fight.

Leidi J 04-04-2013 05:41 AM

Video vs. the guys you mentioned. Here's Clowe destroying Parros:

Draw with Engelland:

Draw with Thornton:

Manhandling Prust:

And probably the most even of his three matches with Barch [they each won one of the other two]:

pretty impressive, wonder if the bum shoulder keeps him away from getting involved the remainder of the year though

I doubt it, the shoulder didn't stop him from fighting for the Sharks before he was traded.

JesusBouillon 04-05-2013 12:08 AM

How is that manhandling Prust? That was pretty even and Prust got more punches in.

there weren't many punches thrown. by manhandling i meant he was kinda tossing him around like a ragdoll. he was obviously the much stronger man in that fight.

Erz8771 04-05-2013 08:42 PM

He and Engelland had a decent scrap tonight.

nazembiggs* 04-05-2013 08:46 PM

He's a sniper now no more fighting for him.

Uh huh....

stranger34 04-06-2013 04:47 PM

I'm looking forward to Orr knocking the moron right out of him this week

PatriceBergeronFan 04-09-2013 01:56 PM

I'd assume he's like Lucic. If he is fighting out of anger, most guys in the league had better watch out. If it is a staged fight, better stick to the non-heavies.

Leo Trollmarov 04-10-2013 08:26 PM

After watching him not beat Fraser, he should not be fighting Orr, Mclaren, Engelland, Parros, Scott, Carkner and crew.

Yeah only saw a highlight on NBC but it looked like one punched dazed clowe

Fire Julien 04-10-2013 08:31 PM

lame spotpicking going after Frasier

Epoch 04-10-2013 08:37 PM

I remember when the Leafs played in San Jose a few years ago, Orr nailed someone and Clowe wanted him bad. Would like to see those two scrap.

I was worried at first, but when that arm got free, it was over. Fraser was just to big and strong and those jabs are what won it. Looked like they hurt.

kento19 04-12-2013 10:39 AM

Lol at Parros. He isn't even a great fighter. Without that stache nobody would even know who he is.

frow 04-13-2013 04:54 AM

Glad to see him in the east now, would have loved him in Ottawa.

Except hes turned Parros inside out and fought Engelland a couple times to draws. This is going to come across as me leaf hating again probably but Fraser had his good arm out of his sleeve most of that fight and still couldnt get a really clear decisive win off Clowe with that obvious advantage.

I dont think that fight should give you much of an idea of who he should be fighting. Fraser is 6'4, has 17 fights this year and fights legit tough guys. Clowe has one fight where the guys arm is out of his sleeve the whole time and still fights it close and has an incredible win loss record but now he should fight other guys like that?

Yup exactly. He usually fights out of pure emotion. Check out the Jordin Tootoo, Kyle Clifford and Jim Vandermeer fights for reference. Hes pretty ordinary in your run of the mill fight.
