Also 2nd team all star

Very nice.

Wonder if he'll get some time in SJ (should the Sharks have a long playoff).

Definitely could be among the players penciled in for NHL roster spots in the fall.

Thread title in honor of Raffi Torres? :sarcasm:

I know he's been playing as an overager (right?), do people who've seen him think he has a shot at the NHL next year? I've always been pretty high on him, but I sure don't watch much (any) junior hockey

TheJuxtaposer 04-04-2013 01:27 AM

Konrad's a project. He needs AHL time.

OrrNumber4 04-04-2013 01:32 AM

Konrad is good enough offensively that on that alone, he'd be thought of a blue-chip prospect. He still needs a lot of work defensively. He's been referred to as a future PP specialist more than once...

Yes, he's an overager...I talked to the WorSharks about that in October and they essentially repeated what we all have heard before, that with all the defenseman that were supposed to be playing in Worcester SJ felt KA's best development path was kicking arse in juniors for another season.

Looking back KA would have had no issues getting ice time in the AHL because of all the injuries and recalls, but I doubt SJ (at least for now) regrets sending him back to juniors this season.

I find it intriguing about all our Defensive prospects.

So SJs team currently has for the 2013-2014 Season

Boyle - Burns - Vlasic - Stuart.. All genuine top 4 players.
Demers - Braun - Irwin.. All required to get NHL time.
Petrecki - Tennyson - Acolatse.. All AHL players who probably need to get NHL time to help their progression (Forgive me if I'm wrong)
Doherty - Abeltshauser.. Both need more AHL time but would probably have been used in a callup situation throughout the season if we wern't so deep at D.

This doesn't include other prospects who are almost ready to step into the AHL..

That is a complete log jam, that although we knew it, it's coming to the time soon where something has to give. Who moves?

I've been watching KA for quite a while and he has good upside, but he's going to need some time in the AHL.

As 210 said, he definitely could've (should've) been playing in the AHL this year but the logjam on D there and the fact that Halifax is a favorite to win the Memorial Cup the org likely made the right decision to have him play is OA year.

Hopefully the org will find a way to ease up on the logjam they have at defense and Abeltshauser will be an everyday player in Worcester next year.

This is what I've been saying. Those who says that we have absolutely no depth and that we have no prospects haven't been looking at SJ's D-pool.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not particuarly thrilled with Irwin. But the man clearly deserves NHL time somewhere in this league, if not SJ. Tennyson also looks pretty good. He may not be all the way ripe yet, but it is clear he has an NHL future.

Burns to Thornton's right wing, Tennyson et al to injury call-up.

For next season, the only d-men that will be competing for spots on the NHL roster are Irwin, Tennyson, Acolatse and maybe Petrecki (if he's still around).

Assuming Boyle isn't traded, it's a pretty safe bet that the blueline (when healthy and Burns at D) this year is what you should see next year...though there's always a chance that one of Braun / Demers is moved.

The organization's philosophy regarding this will be interesting.

I think it is clear that Demers has a higher potential than those listed. At the very least, he's got the best "potential + chance to reach it". But in some way you can say his game has staggered since his rookie season. He didn't have a great sophmore season, and while you can say he was unfairly benched in favor of Douglas Murray, I don't think he was unfairly benched in favor of Justin Braun.

At what point does Demers's lack of current production undermine his potential? With so much defensive depth, it might not be fair to let others wait in favor of Demers.

There is nothing to wait for in favor of Demers. Nobody. I mean NOBDOY below him has shown the flashes of brillance that Demers has shown offensively. Also, NOBODY below him has a single highlight hit while he has several already.

Where the organization goes from here depends entirely on what we do with Boyle going forward.

Braun is the more likely to lose his spot up here.

Technically Irwin has, with his goal scoring recently, but small sample size. I agree though, Demers has the most upside.

At some point, Demers has to show more than flashes. Also, there are plenty of prospects that we haven't even seen yet. Maybe they are better!

Just two years ago, I think the Sharks expected one of Demers or Doherty to take over Boyle's spot going forwards. Not looking like a good plan right now...

CaptainShark 04-04-2013 10:05 PM

Very surprised that everyone still has high hopes for Demers. he has not developed a lot if at all since his debut. And the flashes of brilliance seem to occur less and less... I HOPE you are right and he does put it all together - soon

According to who? Maybe HFBoards members but not the Sharks org.

Dude, he's only 24. And that's losing a half season of NHL time. You wont see potential until he's 26.

SoftDumpInTheCorner 04-04-2013 10:25 PM

Too add to that Sharks D organization depth, any word on Dylan DeMelo?

He's going to Wor.

Hertl was invited for the national preliminary camp. Czech Rep. will play two friendly matches against Germany on the 12th and 13th April. There will be probably still some major changes in the roster but in my opinion he has some chances to play on the WCH.

Asked Kurz about Hertl the other day, he said the org is in love with this kid and to look for him at next seasons camp and not be surprised if he gets a spot. #HertlEra :yo:
