Does rebuild next year mean Hecht returns?

I mean...they're going to want an older guy to show people the ropes, and he's cheap. I really don't want that but I'm afraid this might be their mindset.

AirBriere48 04-05-2013 11:43 AM

Sure, I think the Dip n' Dots stand has an opening.

Beerz 04-05-2013 11:49 AM

One way or another....

Does it really matter?

aceface33 04-05-2013 11:59 AM

It's certainly a possibility.

Djp 04-05-2013 12:23 PM

I think this will be a September decision after seeing what trades were made for what players.

Coming training camo does Larrson, Girgenson earn a spot at the start? Is the plan to bring them up mid season? What about Grigs---does he stay for a full season?

I see more of a vet Dlinman being signed in the offseason that could provide some leadership.

Hecht would be option 3 to me.

MARCUS FOLlGNO PHD 04-05-2013 12:24 PM

I have no issue with Hecht as a 4C or a 3W next year.

Would prefer him as a 4W, if anything. Since Darcy is being open about the rebuild now, though, and we're not trying to make the playoffs like this year, I think it's better to see what a young player can offer, or go with a character vet who'll bring energy to the team. If we're starting a rebuild, it'll be important for a younger guy to get reps.

Nibbler 04-05-2013 01:02 PM

At this rate we are going to need warm bodies to fill out the forwards, and he will probably be a better option on the 3rd/4th lines than young guys who need more seasoning.

I'm kind of excited for a full season of tanking :)

I gotta say I was thrown a bit by this thread topic. Never really thought about Hecht staying. I guess for the right money it wouldn't be a bad idea. He won't get inflated minutes with Ruff gone.

I'm not well versed on rebuilds...do you do a mix of young up and comers with vets, or do you just go all young guys?

Clock 04-05-2013 01:12 PM

No. Let Hecht sail into the sunset.

Ill pass on a 36 year old who is deteriorating pretty quickly. He hasn't aged well and I would rather give his minutes to a new face. If we like to blame the "core" for failing to win how does Hecht not be a part of that? He's been here longer then anyone.

Dutchess 04-05-2013 01:42 PM

Any scenario in which Hecht is in a Sabres uniform next year makes me a saaaad panda.

Agree. Nothing wrong with Hecht on the 4th line. I just don't want him re-signed. Give someone else a chance to center the 4th :dunno:

chadthestampede 04-05-2013 03:42 PM

I hope he comes back just so everyone can be ******** about it for another year.

Funniest thing I've read today.:yo:

I like Hecht but would like this season to be his last so we can think of him for all the good years (and there were a lot) versus the last couple of frustration (even though that frustration is mostly with the coach using him more than he should and in a different position than he should).

brian_griffin 04-05-2013 05:00 PM

If Lindy remains in some capacity in management, do you think Hecht would be here in a coaching role to help Larsson and Girgensons develop their game?

You can't deny having Hecht-like savvy / brains infused into those younger legs isn't desirable.

Face it, we're all optimistic for a rebuild, but BUF's return to relevance and deep playoff runs won't occur until they have a couple guys who can limit shots against by their opponent's top forwards.

What? Um what? Am I reading this wrong? Lindy is STILL in some form of management within the organization? Or was this just a typo?

Let's make him a scout in Germany, maybe try to talk Draisatl into coming to Buffalo (make him do a Lindros if its necessary ;))

Mike Harrington may physically hurt someone if it happens. So do it.
