Bozak's UFA Contract.

What would you want your team to sign him for if he makes it to UFA in July.

Leafs could end up going with Grabs Kadri McClemment Colborne if Bozak demands too much.

LatvianTwist 04-09-2013 11:50 PM

3 years, 13.5M total (4.5M per for those bad at math).

Vancouver Canucks* 04-09-2013 11:56 PM

4yr/16mill

A1LeafNation 04-09-2013 11:56 PM

I still think 4.5M is too much. He is not a 20 goal scorer, he is not a 50 point scorer, and he has been given top line minutes and elite linemates.

4M per year for 3-5 years.

Jeffrey 04-10-2013 12:16 AM

I think if he hit free-agency 6m$ he will get. It would be overpriced but it is now a premium to have a right handed top line center that can win you face-offs.

Alvvays 04-10-2013 12:20 AM

Jarret Stoll got 3 years at $3.25M per. They're comparable.

I'd expect Bozak to get something between $3.5M-$3.75M at 4 years.

Maybe $4.25M in a bidding war.

Man, why couldn't you be the habs GM instead!

HappyGilmourr 04-10-2013 12:22 AM

some desperate GM will give him 5, he's worth 3.5-4.0.

HockeyThoughts 04-10-2013 12:26 AM

I see the Toronto Maple Leafs giving him a 20M over 5 year contract well before he hits free agency.

Tyler Bozak seems to genuinely love playing in Toronto, especially alongside his best friend and star sniper Phil Kessel. Furthermore, he probably has a more prominent role on our team then he would on any other playoff bound squad leaguewide. He can't ask for much more, star wingers, #1 PP time, some PK time, top ES time.. He has been the #1 center for the vast majority of the time he has been with our squad and we never really even made him earn it.

It should be interesting to see how contract negotiations unfold with Mr. Bozak in the near future.

ChesapeakeRipper 04-10-2013 12:52 AM

7M over 2 years. Or 15M over 4 years. if he wants more, trade him at the draft or let him walk. He's not worth 4M.

StringerBell 04-10-2013 01:57 AM

He'll get $19 million over 4 years on the open market. There are so few capable centers hitting UFA someone will overpay for him.

Mr Misty 04-10-2013 02:19 AM

They pay Grabovski 5.5 in Toronto, I wouldn't be surprised to see between 4.5 and 5 for Bozak if Ribeiro or Weiss resigns with their current teams.

Flowzak 04-10-2013 02:52 AM

I hope to God he gets nothing over 3.5m. He has to understand that it's Kessel that gets him points, he's just an over-glorified 3rd liner.

LickTheEnvelope 04-10-2013 03:19 AM

Bozak is worth $5-$6 mil? o_O

Literally none of the responses preceding yours suggest such a thing. Where did you even get that idea from? :help:

604 04-10-2013 04:07 AM

This whole thread just makes me want to see the Canucks lockup Roy @ anything $6M or under long-term.

There are quite a few good UFA centres this off-season particularly:
Ribeiro
Roy
Wiess

I think Toronto might try to upgrade from Bozak at #1 centre this off-season.

kamosko 04-10-2013 04:18 AM

I would love if the Leafs resigned Bozak, he's alright on the top line with Kessel but he'd be much better as the 3C.

At most I would pay 4M over x years but I wouldn't be that happy with it.

Hoping for something in the 3-3.5 range, hope he takes a discount and stays here since we're probably the only team he would've gotten the chance he did on.

Eternal Sunshine 04-10-2013 04:55 AM

Can't see him getting this much.

There is not a GM in the world outside of Glen Sather who would offer Bozak anything even remotely close to 6 mil a year. Bozak is a classic case of a 3rd line player being mistaken for a top line player (how many times I've heard him referred to as a first line center is absurd) simply because he happens to be the best fit on a team with zero depth at his respective position. I.E. Dubinsky during the Jagr days in NY. Bozak is probably worth at best 3.5 mil, 4 would be an overpayment. His game has never lived up to the hype. He can also start by getting a hair cut so he doesn't look like a chick.

Confucius 04-10-2013 06:19 AM

Bozak isn't worth more than 3 million per year for another 3 years. This overpaying has to stop, sorry Boz but it starts with you.

This is accurate.

Has never topped 50 points while playing 1st line minutes with Kessel. Put him on the 3rd line where he belongs, and he'll probably get about 30 points. He's essentially comparable to a guy like Chris Kelly, who im fairly confident could get 45-50 points given first line minutes with Kessel/Lupul last season.

Guys that can play special teams and provide lower end secondary scoring (which is what Bozak would provide with different linemates. most of his points are secondary assists) typically get under 4, centres usually getting more than wingers.

He SHOULD get 3.5, maybe up to 4.0 (would be slightly overpaid at that point IMO). If he hits free agency? He could get 4.5, maybe 5. Would be Leino 2.0.

Pi 04-10-2013 08:29 AM

He could get 4.5...but then he'll be hated by the team that gets him because he makes too much money.

I like him a lot and think he can be a #2C but he's just taking advantage of the situation. He'd be a 3rd line C if Grabovski and Kessel played well together.

CoolburnIsGone 04-10-2013 08:37 AM

I've been thinking for quite a while now that the Panthers are going to let Weiss go via free agency and I kinda expect him to sign with Toronto. Once that happens, I can definitely see the Panthers signing Bozak to a deal similar to what guys like Fleischmann & Versteeg have gotten which is about $4.5M/yr on a 4 yr deal.

Weiss will want Zajac money, the Leafs won't give him that.

I think he'll sign with Anaheim or Chicago...both teams that need a good #2C.

bobbyflex 04-10-2013 08:44 AM

if he wants more than $3.5m he can walk. We can sign Weiss for slightly more
