Canes at Caps 7PM, April 11, 2013

Looks like a trap game...

In the last 10 games we are 8-1-1 and they are 1-9-0, **** that trap game BS, kick them when they are down.

Sasha still injured?

LegendaryNumber5 04-11-2013 08:59 AM

This season has annoyed me to no end... but lets just close it out on a good note.

Thats the point. We have a great opportunity here because the greatest victories are the ones accompanied by great hardships.

The most memorable Caps victory in my mind to this day was game 7 vs Philly in 88. Down in the series 3 to 1. Come back to tie. Then down in the game 7 3-0 and come back to win in overtime.

Most memorable end of season run was in 07-08 where we pretty much had to win out and DID. Amazing.

Adversity is the raw material of which great memorable moments are built from.

QuadrupleDeke 04-11-2013 09:07 AM

With Carolina joining us in the new division, a win here might actually make life much harder for the Caps in a few years. Imagine MacKinnon, Jones, or Barkov on that team...

Back up in their ass with the resurrection.

Would much rather see Wolski as 2LW.

Big fan of those D pairings (except for the part where I still don't understand why Orlov is in Hershey).

troyerlaw 04-11-2013 10:02 AM

24 is on 2nd line? I haven't been able to watch much of last two games, but has 24 earned this spot? Or is it just the only decent avail option?

Yes. Oates started Wolski on the 2nd vs Montreal but he gave next to zero effort and was quickly demoted. Volpatti stepped in and did an admirable job considering the circumstances.

IF it were me I'd make a call up or dress 7 D. Wolski should not be given a sweater. I'd put Schultz in before him.

Please put down the crackpipe. Wolski gives zero effort. He had his chance and was abysmal. Volpatti gives it his all.

Neither, probably. Wolski would be so much better there. That 2nd line is going to end up getting outshot 2-to-1 I imagine... ugly.

Volpatti was hitting everything in sight and did strong board work. Got a nice shot or two in there as well.

I really don't get the Wolski love. I just see a guy who doesn't even try and dogs it out there. I can totally see first hand why he was run out of pretty much every team he's ever been on.

Pure gutless

troyerlaw 04-11-2013 10:15 AM

I would have thought 25, 16, 83, or even 85 or 26. By nature 24 seems like a 4th-line guy all the way. Oh well. Oates knows better than I do.

Gotta win these next couple against lesser opponents b/c then the quality of opponent rises for the last handful of games. We are riding high now, but it's still a paper-thin lead over WPG, and there a bunch of good teams battling for 8th spot, too.

It has been very helpful to get scoring from blueline lately, btw, e.g. Green, Baby Dino, and Hillen.

troyerlaw 04-11-2013 10:18 AM

And speaking of blueline scoring, if this guy can do it, then any of our D can do it:

Let's conjure that #5 spirit, and finish up this season the right way.

troyerlaw 04-11-2013 10:18 AM

#5, sniper

troyerlaw 04-11-2013 10:19 AM

Brings a tear to the eye to watch a victory celebration in which both #5 and #3 are wearing Caps jerseys. That was the highwater mark for this organization, grit-wise.

I get the perception issues, and I get that last game looked to reinforce that. But over any reasonable stretch Wolski is going to generate so many more chances than Volpatti.

I don't care whether a guy is perceived as soft or not, or whether he's perceived as a hard worker or lazy. I care whether he consistently helps the team generate more chances for than against. Wolski does that. Volpatti doesn't.

Granted, for a temporary fill in it may not matter. But with Ribeiro seemingly cooling off this strikes me as a bad way to try and fix that.

tycoonheart 04-11-2013 10:41 AM

If you think Wolski is a better option at 2LW you did not watch the game against Habs.

Yeah, he's hurtin bad and shouldn't be playing at all (if he does). Still dangerous but probably mostly ineffective. Faulk is the same. They seem to have some illusion that they can still make it. Risking their top guys is just stupid at this point IMO. Tank mode like you guys were in the first half and hope for the best from there. Trade Muller for Oates any day.:)

25 has looked lost all season.

16 and 85 work very well on that 3rd line. I'm not sure I'd separate them right now.

Maybe Hendy might not be a bad option there, but like Bob said, Volpatti looked serviceable on that line last game.

Lawrencejame 04-11-2013 10:46 AM

Patti was really good, so he might be a better option then Wolski on the 2nd line, but I don't think Patti normally plays as good as he did vs mont. That 2nd line has really been struggling lately, especially brouwer. Hopefully they can get something going tonight, because its about time.

That said, caps win 4 - 2. Ovi nets 2, Green gets another!
