Best Undersized Prospects

Is Gaudreau the best? What are small guys should be able to make it?

airforceones25 04-13-2013 12:09 AM

Sami Vatanen.

Phion Keneuf 04-13-2013 12:11 AM

I think Ryan Rupert can make it in a 4th line role.

airforceones25 04-13-2013 12:23 AM

Sami Vatanen
Kevin Roy
Steven Whitney
Max Friberg
Charles Sarault
Kevin Gagne

Ducks like their mighty midgets!

amjay13 04-13-2013 12:25 AM

Taylor Cammarata.

Zine 04-13-2013 12:43 AM

Sergei Tolchinsky

umwoz 04-13-2013 01:01 AM

Honorable mention to Tyler Johnson

Manked 04-13-2013 01:39 AM

JG Pageau is 165 and just scored his first goal tonight.

That's a solid list, but other than Whitney and Gagne, all those guys are 5-10 or bigger. They are not large by any means, but I don't think that's really that undersized. Weight can be added for younger guys.

Jacko95 04-13-2013 02:41 AM

I think Tyler Johnson has proven by far the most of all this guys mentioned in this thread and is already a two way force, so I would set him higher than HM.

And other qustion what exactly means undersized? Under 6'0? Under 5'10

If it's 6'0 I think Nikita Kucherov has the most potential of all players (he is seen as a boom or bust superstar prospect) and has the best PPG rate only behind Drouin in the QMJHL. And he is 5'11.
And Tobias Rieder could become a great top6 winger for Phoenix

In what way is this a solid list, it's a list of Ducks prospects with good stats on their respective levels, but non of them (except Vatanen) has proven anything in pro hockey) because Fribergs stats are far from impressive and the others are either junior or NCAA prospects.
A lot of teams can give you such lists.
As example, Tampa:
Nikita Kucherov
JT Brown
Nikita Gusev
Tyler Johnson
Matthew Peca
Jimmy Mullin (to a lesser extend as he had struggled this season)

I was considering it to be below 5'10. Not that guys bigger than that can't be undersized as well, but it's really not that surprising to see a 5'10 guy in the NHL. I was talking more about the guys with the shock value. The guys that you see in the NHL and are like damn how did he make it. Conacher, Zuccarello and guys like that.

A couple of solid NCAA prospects that haven't been mentioned are Matthew Peca from Quinnipiac and Matt Grzelcyk from BU. Grzelcyk is a really talented D-man that is Bruins property but I like Krug better because he is better in his own end.

Grimaldi is super small, also the sabres forward is supersmall.

Huffman 04-13-2013 07:01 AM

Viktor Arvidsson (undrafted) is a way more talented player than Max Friberg. I think his game will translate better to NA rinks as well.

maroon 6 04-13-2013 07:08 AM

5'8 166lbs Nic Petan (2013 draft)

Finished 2nd in WHL scoring

GoBs 04-13-2013 07:28 AM

Rocco Grimaldi has looked pretty good.

Yeah that's a good one, he's inconsistent though. I think he was benched or scratched for a couple games at WJC and then went off when he got put back in.

KapG 04-13-2013 07:48 AM

came in to mention kevin roy.

kids pretty good.

Montecristo 04-13-2013 01:58 PM

Matt grzelcyk from bu and boston. He's a great skater only 5-9

Sensatauro 04-13-2013 02:10 PM

I got to throw out Pageau love here too. The guy doesn't even weigh 170lbs and in his 1st two games is running around like a little wrecking ball. He's a serious gamer.

svartgul 04-13-2013 03:10 PM

Viktor Arvidsson. His feet never stop moving, he's in full gear in every shift on the ice though I wonder if he's too small for the NHL. I really hope not.

tikkanen5rings* 04-13-2013 04:43 PM

With Jesus in his corner, I don't think there's a chance that Grimaldi won't be a superstar.

ManByng 04-13-2013 04:46 PM

Brandon Kozun, Kings prospect, listed at 5' 8" and 162.

gretskidoo 04-13-2013 04:48 PM

"Jesus, take the stick." -Rocco Grimaldi

Benched for 1 game. No one was playing great up until he got benched.
