Ideal Additions

Who is the one player that you feel would benefit this team the most? Your choice is of any one player from any team in the entire league that the Sabres could REALISTICALLY acquire. So that's not Crosby, Stamkos, Toews, etc. This player would immediately and long term benefit the Sabres. Consider who'd lead the team the best, fit our system, be on board with a rebuild, etc etc. Who would you choose?

Streit, although "long term" it would be more in the impact he left in mentoring certain players.

Ryan O'Reilly at the deadline.

"at the deadline" he will be available...or at least he is free to be traded.

He can be traded on March 1, 2014, which is before next year's deadline.

I would love to see Stalberg from the Hawks who will be a UFA. Great size and speed combo that could be put in a scoring line role here. Bickell is also a UFA with the Hawks as well. Good size and grit.

i've always been a huge fan of backes. i think he'd help out the sabres on the ice and in the locker room quite a bit, even if he's aging. one of the better power forwards in the league, senior leadership, plays with a ton of heart, but i guess getting a team to let go of their captain's hard...

You serious? You really think St. Louis is trading Backes, who's their captain and leader, not to mention a very good hockey player? I thought you said we were trying to be realistic?

BuiltTagonTough 04-14-2013 09:21 PM

Hjalmarsson. Helps the back end of things, not big on offense but hits like a truck and would be great in Blue and Gold.

i don't think we'd be able to get him i'd just love him on the team. he's not ufa for years and like you pointed out they wouldn't ever let him go.

Well hell, if it's just about "ideal additions" and not reality based additions...

Malkin
Crosby
Stamkos
Giroux
Doughty
Brown
Kopitar
Richards
Suter
Weber
Sedin twins
Kane
Toews

All would be "ideal additions"

I have no idea what we'll dI... But since this is the 4th thread proposing Miller to the Islanders for Streits rights.... There is zero % chance of that happening.

It makes very little sense for Buffalo, NYI, or Streit.

What happened with that proposed negotiating period in the CBA?

MayDayMayDay 04-14-2013 11:12 PM

Bobby Ryan. Plain and simple.

Buffalo needs to add a 35 year old dman who can't play defense, we don't have enough liabilities on our blue line yet.

Assuming the deadline gets moved back

So, looking ahead, Colorado can’t trade O’Reilly until Feb. 28, 2014 — a curious date, given the 2012 NHL trade deadline was Feb. 27 and the year before, it was Feb. 28.

Of course, the 2014 trade deadline could be bumped if NHLers participate in the Winter Olympics in Sochi (in 2010, the deadline was on Mar. 3.)

Der Jaeger 04-14-2013 11:45 PM

Ryan O'Reilly. If the trade deadline moves back with the Olympics, I hope the Sabres make this move. He fills so many needs for the team: leadership, 2C, two-way center, etc.

Hate to go this route, but...

You've never watched him play, clearly. Very clear.
