Big Game Story: BATTLE FOR THE FOURTH SEED ! The Stanley Cup Playoffs are right around the corner, and races are getting tighter and more heated with less than two weeks remaining on the schedule. One point separates the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks as they battle for the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, which guarantees home-ice advantage in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This is the third of four meetings. The teams faced each other twice in a three-day span in March, with each club earning a victory. Tuesday night the Sharks host Kings in potential playoff preview, the Kings can further solidify the No. 4 spot with a win in San Jose.
The KINGS need to remind the SHARKS which team just won a Stanley Cup Championship. GO KINGS GO !!!

Obviously I was frustrated at the time that I wasn’t on it, so when he finally gave me my chance, I think I made a pretty good opportunity of it, and that’s where you get your points as a defenseman – on the power play."

It’s tough to get somebody willing to play, do some contact drills just because of the day before the games. So it was good to get out there today, get two days in between a game, and get a chance to bump into some guys. No, no hesitations practicing with contact. It’s good. You’ve got to play without fear, just with anybody."

If it wasn’t rolling, he probably would’ve gotten to it…Our kids on the back end on the power play struggled tonight and cost us there.” (On Quick’s performance) …“I think he was solid. NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

San Jose only has one regulation loss at home, and that was to Chicago. And tonight each team is battling for possible home ice advantage against a possible first round matchup. Time to show them our road playoff side...

I would complain that it is on KCOP however I guess these are the kinds of games that used to get no broadcast at all.

We really need this one tonight. I think home ice could be a major factor determining whether or not we survive the first round.

Home ice could definitely make or break us in the playoffs. Boys need to win this one tonight and play a full 60. If they don't, they'll lose. Plain and simple.

^this. It's a pretty novel idea actually. ;)

DaAnimal 04-16-2013 11:44 AM

I find it amazing that the sharks used to be a top offensive team and now they are ranked 27th in goals.

They virtually have somewhat similar lineup as last year.

Regardless of stats, it is a must win for us. Our defense needs to be on their A game and our forwards needs to continuously forecheck. It will be a tough matchup but LETS GO BOYS.

Fishhead 04-16-2013 11:55 AM

I like our chances. Odds are pretty good we get at least a point tonight.

The Sharks head to OT in about half of their home games. It amazes me that SJ are 15 points ahead of Calgary, yet have one less regulation/OT win.

Also, the Sharks have been rolling of late, but out of those 7 wins only 2 were against playoff teams, and one was in the shootout.

KingsFan7824 04-16-2013 11:57 AM

A bad effort and loss in Dallas, followed up by an uneven SO win against Colorado, followed by a somewhat better but still too reliant on Quick regulation win against the Ducks.

The Kings are getting better, but they haven't been quite there yet. Cut down in the defensive zone turnovers, get to and move the puck quicker, and they have a chance to win tonight.

that is a crazy stat, and i think is telling of how neimi has been keeping them in every game. I have him in my pool and he is easily the main reason why i am winning it.

This. For sure. We need to win this game. We also need the *vomit* Canucks to win tonight. We need to start separating ourselves from the pack.

HansH 04-16-2013 12:46 PM

Erk - for all the talk about how bad a road team the Sharks are, I didn't realize that the Kings are virtually as bad on the road this season... the Sharks are 8-12-2 and the Kings are 8-10-3... doesn't make me that encouraged for tonight, and unfortunately makes that #4 seed that much more important to lock down!

Muzzinga 04-16-2013 12:55 PM

Win it cleanly and with 3 periods of hockey. They need to better in the first. This is from a Bleacher Report (which I normally don't read but someone I work with sent it to me)

The Kings, in 42 games, have trailed after the first 20 times. Yes, 20. They've scored a significantly fewer amount of goals in the first period compared to the second and third, and when trailing after one period, they hold just a 6-12-2 record.

On the flip side, when the Kings lead after one period, they are the best team in hockey. They have lost just two games all season when leading after one and are in the top 10 in second-period goals and top five in third-period goals.

I thinkt they need to play a more consistant game and amp up for the playoffs. At least we don't have to worry about straddling the fence this year.
I'd like to see them establish and maintain a solid lead from the 1st on, don't play catch up. Hopefully come out strong in the 1st and bank a couple
