Malkin for Kopitar/Voynov/1st 2013

To LA:
Malkin (with extension)

To Pittsburgh:
Kopitar
Voynov

Keys for Pittsburgh:
- limits risk of simultaneous Crosby/Malkin injuries, Kopitar hardly gets hurt
- strengthens faceoffs
- improves second line center 2-way play
- improves defense

Keys for LA:
- improves PP
- adds a superstar sniper

Gary83* 04-17-2013 10:15 AM

Why should LA, who just won the cup, pay the price of Voynov, a '13 1st which they don't have and a 2014 1st to upgrade from Kopitar to Malkin?

As an Oiler fan why does LA do this ? The keys you list for Pittsburgh are good reason for LA to keep their own player .Then on top of that the +++ . Terrible Value for LA .

Acallabeth 04-17-2013 10:25 AM

Pittsburgh easily wins, and how would LA fit Geno under the reduced cap with all those FA comings?

Hard to believe an overpayment can be made for a player like Malkin, but you blew it out of the water.

What team are you a fan of? Not LA i imagine.

FishManSam 04-17-2013 10:26 AM

No reason at all for LA to do this, makes them a much worse team.

Shrimper 04-17-2013 10:33 AM

No reason for Pittsburgh to do this either. We're happy with Malkin thanks.

Besides, you cite the fact that it limits the risk of simultaneous injuries to Malkin or Crosby. Injuries aren't thing you can predict, what's the say Kopitar came in and got a broken leg?

Also, that 1st will likely be 20-30. Wouldn't do that deal.

Dying Alive 04-17-2013 10:34 AM

Both teams pass.

Leafssss 04-17-2013 10:35 AM

This is an overpayment by LA.

It's like the Leafs offering:

Kessel + Gardiner + McKegg + 3rd (turns to 5th if Malkin doesn't re-sign) for Malkin.

heh

It's a better than that deal.

The only thing of interest to Pittsburgh there is Kessel but it'd take Kessel + to get Malkin.

Montreal Shadow 04-17-2013 10:38 AM

OP doesn't seem to know LA is deep at center and it's the last position they'd need a major upgrade at.

Richards, Carter and Kopitar can all play center. They have a legit 1st line center and two guys who used to be among the best 1st line centers and who are still at the very least good 2nd line centers. No reason for LA to do this.

Jonteeh 04-17-2013 10:39 AM

Would be a horrible horrible trade by LA...

Fordy 04-17-2013 10:40 AM

Every side of this says no.

MarleauApologist 04-17-2013 10:41 AM

Overpayment from LA. A great young top 4, maybe future top 2 defender, a top line center, and 2 first rounders? The gap between Kopitar and Malkin isn't big enough for this.

Pittsburgh has no need for a great, young top 4 potential D-man. We have plenty of them.

We also don't need a top line center. We have two. The two 1st rounders are likely to be in the 20-30 range too which, whilst they do hold value as they are 1st rounders, aren't that attractive because of their number.

Phil68 04-17-2013 10:43 AM

When Malkin plays at his worse worse, he is Anze Kopitar... Malkin is by far not a one Dimentional player.. He's not even a Superstar, he is a Franchise player.. The pens are just lucky that they have two. So when some of you state if Anze Kopitar, Voynov and 2013 first round and 2014 first round should be fair? Not even close, it doesn't make the Pens any better. Makes L.A. that much Better by fffffaaaaaaaarrrrrr

With all due respect this is not even close to what they ask for from LA .

duffy9748 04-17-2013 10:45 AM

Haven't seen many Malkin deals that would make Pittsburgh a better team but this is one of them.

Frolov 6'3 04-17-2013 10:53 AM

Malkin is a better player than Kopitar but the gap isnt 2 firsts and Voynov.

Besides, like that one Pittsburgh fan is saying. They dont need a topline center, 1st rounders, and a potential top pairing defenseman. They have plenty of those and Jussi Jokinen...

Just wanted to point that out to everyone.

Kopitar is a better two-way player than Malkin. Maybe a straight-up trade, but LA should not have to add.

The 30-40 extra pts Malkin puts up more than makes up for that.

Telos 04-17-2013 11:19 AM

The Kings have a nicely balanced team. This is a maneuver the Kings would have made 20-30 years ago, but not anymore. This would severely hamstring the club. It wouldn't even be possible even if we wanted to, which we wouldn't.
