Marc Methot to Edmonton?

How does Ottawa value Methot? What would Edmonton have to ship Ottawa to acquire Marc Methot?

Home town guy who has fit in seemlessly and was just acquired. With Phillips and Gonchar leaving within a season or two I don't see Ottawa moving him for anything less than an over payment. They'd probably want a top four defenseman back which makes it an undesirable trade for the Oilers considering their blue line right now.

TSA0402 04-19-2013 02:48 PM

Methot is pretty important to the Sens at this point, also if he goes, it leaves alot of question marks on the left side of the defense.

Answer : You aren't going to like what you are going to have to give up.

That being said, I could see him helping the Oilers on defense, alot.

Which, unless there's a plus or he's better than Methot, makes it redundant

Beukeboom Fan 04-19-2013 02:51 PM

In before Hemsky + ?! :yo:

In all seriousness though - OTT is looking to contend, and Methot plays an underrated role in that. Methot is the perfect guy to pair with Karlson, so I don't see him as being available in a trade.

The Senators are a young deep team up front, with good to very good goaltending. I honestely don't see a realistic trade that makes the Senators better, and he definitely wouldn't be moved for futures (picks/prospects). It would have to be a 1-1 type of deal that improved the team, and I just don't see that as likely looking at OTT's depth chart, even if Alfie retires.

MrG 04-19-2013 02:52 PM

He has fit in so well here that unless his play takes a significant turn for the worse, he should retire here.

He's been phenominal, and his value is MUCH higher than what he was traded for last summer.

I can't envision a scenario where Methot would be dealt.

HockeySens 04-19-2013 03:31 PM

Cant believe we had him for foligno, although foligno is playing very well for lumbus. Oilers could have given pjaarvi for him or something.

Anywyz it would take an overpayment probably, Id be happy with Smid +

rockinghockey 04-19-2013 05:59 PM

Doesn't make sense for OTT to trade Methot, I wanted EDM to get him, I would of traded Hemsky straight up for him but Tambo didn't try. Tambo probally offered a 3rd for him.

ReginKarlssonLehner 04-19-2013 06:16 PM

Yea no.

He is a fixture on our blueline for years to come. Lock it down.

Sens and Sabs 04-19-2013 06:23 PM

He's been a valuable piece to Ottawa's D. Would go for high value. If any trade was going to happen involving Methot it wouldn't be a trade to Edmonton; would be very one-sided.

The Sens have a problem with having too many NHL players and too few roster spots. Quick translation: No quantity for quality trade will help the Sens.

trobby 04-19-2013 10:30 PM

He is so sound in our own zone. He gets the puck to the net, and rarely makes a bad decision.

Every team needs a Marc Methot.

Get your own Methot.

MandyAlwaysKnows 04-19-2013 10:38 PM

Spezza and Methot for RNH and Petry

Hey now... share....

SpezDispenser 04-19-2013 10:44 PM

Yeah, I would echo the sentiments in this thread. He's a very solid defender who can hit, is incredibly mobile for a big guy, has some offense and is just generally a multi-tool D-man. He'll be a Senator for a long, long time I think.

Kevin8se7en 04-19-2013 10:49 PM

A massive overpayment is needed

He is a physical top pairing Dman who compliments Kalrsson very well.
He's also a hometown boy that seems to love playing here.

He's arguably top 5 on the untouchables list for Ottawa at this point.

Note: His skill level may not be top pairing but that's where he plays and that's why his value is quite high to Ottawa.

So I like how overpays are acceptable for #5 D... but Eberle has lost value and is worth only unproven picks prospects... love this place and Sens fans... keep on keeping on...

HavlatMach9 04-19-2013 11:23 PM

For sure the recently acquired and projected long time defensive partner of Norris Karlsson is available. Makes sense.

danishh 04-19-2013 11:30 PM

**** no.

#5 D lol he's prolly the oilers #1 D right now, that means u have a bunch of #6 D and sens fan who says they wont trade cowen or zibanejad for eberle doesnt mean eberle is not worth those two they just like how cowen and zibanejad will pan out. Obviously, value wise eberle>>Cowen and eberle>>zibanejad right now, the future?Im not sure, all are young but some value defenseman and center than a winger.

IranCondraAffair 04-19-2013 11:35 PM

How many guys WANT to play for Ottawa?

I'm a big Eberle supporter so I'm with you on that, but to say Methot is a #5 Dman... cmon man...

He's our #2 Dman when everyone is healthy, and you won't hear a single Sens fan complain about that.

His value to Ottawa is significantly higher than his value to any other team. It would require a stupid overpayment.

When it comes to Ebs.. people are underrating his value because he is something Edmonton has a surplus of. Personally, I'd rather just keep the Surplus. lol

Not sure how to answer that because IDK if you're implying Ottawa is a great destination, or a horrible one... lol

Link? Is this more time travel...

There are some examples from this board including the opinion of Edmonton fans. Now go watch the Kevin Lowe/Mac T press conference again and pay attention to the part about making bold decisions. For now people are speculating that one of Edmonton's top forwards will be moved to help the team's defense or goaltending. Potentially none of them could be moved, but if one is then it would return less than if a team had to pry one of them away.
