What in the H E double hockey sticks is wrong with Thornton????

Any insight? Love him, but he's been just absolute **** since February now.

Danish Pastry 04-21-2013 09:55 PM

no idea... he hasnt looked good like you said i really have no idea... maybe he is just taking it easy to go into angry joe mode in the playoffs...

Juxtaposer 04-21-2013 10:07 PM

No clue whatsoever.

fasterthanlight 04-21-2013 10:08 PM

Injury?

Plowevelski 04-21-2013 10:14 PM

As a Thornton homer I'd like to think it's all part of some master plan...

The world may never know. But yeah he's looked absolutely horrid. Literal facepalm when he just fell on his ass tonight. I want nothing more than for him to catch fire and destroy all opposition during the big games. Hockey gods haven't been kind, but please?

do0glas 04-21-2013 10:15 PM

if he is injured, i really wish we couldve clinched. given him a maitenance day, or IR until the playoffs or something. sigh.

Hatrick Marleau 04-21-2013 10:19 PM

No heart.:sarcasm:

Juxtaposer 04-21-2013 10:26 PM

If he's injured enough to make him this ******, then I'll be really pissed that he isn't resting.

But realistically, coaches don't bench or demote players for playing ****tily if they're severely injured. That's the red-flag.

NathanCouture 04-21-2013 10:26 PM

I have to think he's playing injured.

do0glas 04-21-2013 10:30 PM

whats a realistic lineup without thornton right now anyway?

stator 04-21-2013 10:36 PM

At the game, Thornton did not look good and seemed to have trouble getting up to speed on his skates.

I'm guessing Marleau will center the top line, and Sheppard comes in and plays on Couture's or Pavelski's wing.

Crafton 04-21-2013 11:00 PM

Slappy got a new, competent ventriloquist. Joe is jealous.

I'd keep Couture's line the way it is.

Marleau - Couture - Havlat
Galiardi - Pavelski - Burns
Torres - Sheppard - Wingels
Desjardins - Gomez - Burish

Mister Wedge 04-21-2013 11:18 PM

Was wondering the same thing after attending tonight's game. Not sure

Gomez would move up to 3rd line center. Shep would be 4C

Gene Parmesan 04-21-2013 11:38 PM

Hes not looking good..no idea why.

That's what I was thinking as well. Who knows.

I really hope he puts it into high gear once the playoffs come. He's been a beast the last couple. If he doesn't we won't make it out of the first round.

ilikebigjoe 04-21-2013 11:58 PM

I'm wondering if there's some sorta injury. His shots have seemed weaker, his skating horrible, and he just isn't making nice set up plays anymore. It's bothering me to say the least. I hope it is the master plan as was suggested above that he is coasting and will turn it on for playoffs. That will still piss me off but if he were to dominate and SJ win it would e forgivable.

sjshark91 04-21-2013 11:59 PM

His running into the boards against LA didn't help.

hohosaregood 04-22-2013 12:07 AM

I'm hoping it's an injury or maybe some life issues because it would make me really sad if he really were on the decline.

Ah, hockey, where we hope a guy is either injured or having a personal crisis, because as long as our hockey team wins, who cares?

VP and GM 04-22-2013 12:26 AM

I don't think hes been that bad, could be fatigue as we're playing allot of playoff like games now.

Joe Thornton ended up with fourth line wings Andrew Desjardins and Adam Burish as his linemates in the third period, but McLellan said the move wasn’t a reflection of Thornton’s play. And the fact the captain had a respectable 18:31 ice time would appear to back that up.

Here’s McLellan’s explanation for the move.

“Just a little shuffle of the lines, trying to get some people going, jolt some people. It worked. Jumbo with Desi and Burr scored the second goal and I though it gave us some energy.”

So it wasn’t about Thornton, who was all-but benched in the third period of San Jose’s 4-0 loss to Columbus at Nationwide Arena on April 9?

“No,” McLellan said. “Our whole group was not playing well.”

Nighthock 04-22-2013 12:31 AM

Well, if this wasn't a shortened season this would be the playoffs ... coincidence? Probably not ...
