As the Flyers approach their final three games of the regular season they will have plenty of players to fill out the game roster.

The club announced today that they have recalled forwards Jason Akeson, Scott Laughton and Tye McGinn, as well as defenseman Matt Konan from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.

Each player will practice with the squad and be available to be inserted into the line-up if necessary.

The Flyers play the final three games of the regular season this week when they take on the Boston Bruins (Tuesday) and NY Islanders (Thursday) before traveling to Ottawa to take on the Senators on Saturday night.
Let the young kids play and rest Giroux, Voracek, and Briere. Actually rest everyone except the young guns!

Good to see Akeson FINALLY get a call up. Kid has looked good this season. Really worked on his defensive play when he was sent to the ECHL.

JDinkalage Morgoone 04-22-2013 03:54 PM

Good. Hope they see a lot of ice time.

MP92 04-22-2013 03:54 PM

I doubt they play Laughton as to avoid burning a year off of his ELC. He's probably just here to practice with the team.

Do healthy scratches count toward the ELC ?

No. There were teams this season who had their young guys up, played them for a few games and let them sit a few before sending them back.

Beef Invictus 04-22-2013 04:03 PM

Haha. Might as well see what they've all got. The Phantoms are back in Philly!

dbr2 04-22-2013 04:13 PM

If this burns a year on Laughton, Holmgren has lost it...more than he already has.

LegionOfDoom91 04-22-2013 04:16 PM

Homer's down with the tank. Good for the kids though rather see what they got than Briere getting 15 minutes a night.

For those asking, Laughton will not play. Basically called up to practice with the team.#Flyers

There's your answer for Laughton. This also frees up some spots on the Phantoms for the remaining 3 games. So hopefully Cousins gets some more minutes now.

I'd like to see Akeson get some play. People have talked him up quite a bit but the organization does not seem to high on him.

The AHL regular season is done. They only play 76 games. They used to play 80 but Im fairly confident they changed that.

Dat tank.

Yeah they didn't update their schedule. It had 3 games from the weekend without results and I didn't look at the dates orginally. So you're right the season is over.

Cool, would be great to see Konan and Akeson play to see how they do.

sobrien 04-22-2013 05:26 PM

Great for them, would have loved to see Noebels get a sniff with them though. Still got time!

BillyShoe1721 04-22-2013 05:43 PM

I'm very glad they're giving Akeson a chance. I'm really hoping that they give him a real chance, and that he can show something. He's done all they can ask of him, and he deserves at least a chance in a few meaningless games.

There might be some type of limit on how many guys you can call up. McGinn's already been here a few games, Laughton's the same and pretty much a good bet as making the roster next year. I'm guessing they went Akeson due to age and experience over Noebels.

I do think Noebels will be given a shot at camp this summer and through the preseason though.

There is no roster number limit after the trade deadline. Maybe Noebels will be playing in the WHC?

Glad they got the call up. I hope they give Akeson and Konan a shot

I'm not sure then. Yeah Germany isn't really strong and not many veterans take it seriously so he might be.

World Championships don't start until May 3rd.

I've heard in the past that alot of times these late season call ups arent necessarily used by the teams as tryouts so to speak to see how these players perform, but as a reward to a handful of players who did what was asked of them, and some.

You look at Akeson as an example of that. If he makes it into a game, he will have played ECHL, AHL, NHL this season. This can be seen as a reward for accepting his demotion with a positive attitude, doing what he needed to do, and bringing those skills to the AHL, as asked.

Now he gets called up, and even if not used in a game, is rewarded with the experience of being with an NHL team, and a nice little bonus in his account as well.

FlyersFan61290 04-23-2013 08:00 AM

What I want to know is why Cousins didn't get a call.

Curufinwe 04-23-2013 08:45 AM

Cause he doesn't deserve it yet.
