Would You Consider Doing That?

Having DD and Gionta being healthy scratchs?

I know politically it could be hurtful but I think it would be all around better for the team.

You add Prust and Dumont on the first three lines. Prust has shown before he can play with anybody and Dumont was pretty decent with Chucky.

Third line would by Prust, Dumont with Chucky taking finally the center position.

Second line would be Bourque-Plekanec-Ryder.

First line would be Max Pac, Eller and Gallagher.

And then fourth line it would be Blunden, Halpern and White. Why Blunden and White over Moen and Armstrong? Because a fourth line is supposed to be a gritty line.

Takashi 04-27-2013 12:06 PM

No...

LyricalLyricist 04-27-2013 12:08 PM

Why would it be better overall for the team?

MXD 04-27-2013 12:09 PM

Healthy scratching a capitain?

I'm disappointed in Gionta and DD, like most people here.

They just need less icetime. Not being scratched.

PricePkPatch 04-27-2013 12:10 PM

Beside helping some fans' sense of worth by not seeing undersized players in our lineup, how will that actually help the team?

Size, gritt. And Eller get on the first line, Chucky gets back at at the center position.

Coado 04-27-2013 12:10 PM

I'll have what you're smoking sir☻

Ghetto Sangria 04-27-2013 12:11 PM

that doesn't help the team at all imo. Gionta and Desharnais, while small, do have an offensive role on this team. Gionta in particular is useful at both ends of the ice (more so on defense, which the habs have been struggling with).

They won't be getting scratched. But the team would be better I think if they would.

Subnordi 04-27-2013 12:13 PM

Our lineup going into the playoffs should be

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher
Galchenyuk-Eller-Ryder
Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta
Prust-Halpern-Dumont/Armstrong

Gorges-Subban
Markov-Diaz
Tinordi-Boullion

Price

Gio has been one of our top players in the 2 years he's been in the playoffs here, Desharnais wasn't excellent all season but with the improved play of Patches recently DD seems to be lighting up again as well.

You realize you're adding size and grit, but you're also replacing proven NHL talent with borderline NHL talent...

How fast do you want to be eliminated? Jesus, Eller improved and its one thing to put him on top line but its entire different to support him with no depth afterwards. Eller can surely keep up with max and company but without depth were screwed. Same applies to DD or Gionta. They need support of Eller and others.

But even if Gio helps defensively, he's a non-issue whether we struggle or not. Better have a Bourque in that same position.

Bingo. Depth is what wins you in the playoffs. Third line scoring is essential.

How does that make any sense? Gio is much better than bourque defensively. Even though bourque has the size advantage, gio still contributes much more on the defensive side.

I believe Eller is ready to take the poll. He's our best center right now. People are not screaming that Kadri is getting too much icetime in Toronto right?

And i'm confident with Prust-Chucky-Dumont on our third line. You can dress up Moen or Gio if Dumont has difficulties.

Come to think of it, Prust-Chucky-Gio on the third line wouldn't be so bad.

Em Ancien 04-27-2013 12:20 PM

Ah yes, let us take away skill from the lineup simply because. Some people on this board :handclap:

uiCk 04-27-2013 12:21 PM

Gio plays a good game. And we will see him be even more useful to this team come PO time, just like the time we made the ECF.

Et le But 04-27-2013 12:22 PM

Considering both are coming off a decent game, now would not be the right time.

If there was going to be a message sent, it's something Therrien should have done like a month ago with regards to Desharnais.

Scratching Gionta makes little sense, besides being the captain he's still one of the best goalscorers on this team. Whatever his flaws are there's not really any replacement for him right now.

I think it's a non-issue. Especially since the Habs have a team concept so most of the forwards have to help in a similar manner. We're not in the 80s now where defensice forwards were a rarity, now everybody has to backcheck. The defensive game of Gio is less of a matter compared to Bourque's size.

I'm somewhat ambivalent on DD and Gionta and not at all adverse to the idea of upgrading them.

However.

It's not better for the team because Blunden and White are nowhere near as good as hockey as Desharnais and Gionta. You are placing way too much emphasis on 'size' and 'grit' and way too little on talent.

You do not improve a team by replacing top six NHL'ers with AHL players. How big any of those players are is of no relevance whatsoever.

Mathradio 04-27-2013 12:25 PM

Just cutting their icetime for now.

WhiskeySeven 04-27-2013 12:33 PM

Ridiculous.

I'd cut their ice time, their PP time but they're NHL players and our depth is not THAT good.

DD and Gio should've been healthy scratched months ago, it's too late now to send any message.

Eller is on pace for 13 goals over 82 games. His complete game has improved and he's been better but he can't carry the load of losing 2 offensive players. He's not good enough, not a shot at him but we're removing two offensive guys out of the lineup and it doesn't do us any good.

Kadri is PPG isn't he? He's got nearly double the points as Eller.

I'm not, Galchenyuk is good but man way to put pressure on a kid. Dumont has been good in his role but you're switching his role now.

Honestly, Moen has been less gritty than gionta, why are we keeping him in?

I'm not replacing DD and Gio by Blunden and White, it's a fourth line and Gio and DD can't play on a fourth line. If anything they are replacing Moen and Armstrong.
