Big Game Story: The BLACK & BLUES series Part 2. The Los Angeles Kings not only swept the St. Louis Blues out of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, they picked up where they left off by taking all three meetings during the 2012-13 regular season. Jeff Carter scored three goals and six different Kings recorded four points. The Kings begin their defense of the Stanley Cup against a team that hasn't beaten them in nine meetings, combining the regular season and playoffs, dating back to Feb. 3, 2012. Don't expect this matchup of No. 4 and 5 seeds to be a cakewalk, though. The Blues once again have home ice and come in having won six straight at Scottrade Center. They also have one of the NHL's hottest goaltenders in Brian Elliott, who went 11-2 in April, allowing one goal or less 10 times.
KINGS need to remind the BLUES which team swept them in route to winning the Stanley Cup Championship. GO KINGS GO !!!

We know what we’re getting, and they know what they’;re getting, so it’s a matter of getting ready, and we’ll just go from there. (On whether the team raised its game to “a level it needs to be” late in the season) … “Yeah, I think so. I think tonight was I guess a pretty good finish to the regular season, because I thought we played tonight a pretty solid game against a pretty good team, too. We’re going to have to carry that over. Of course there’s room for improvement, but we’re going to have to carry that work ethic right into Tuesday’s game.” (On whether there’s any disappointment over not getting home ice in the first round) … “No. I mean, we were shooting for that. We came up a point short, just like we did last year. It doesn’t matter. You still have to win four games. It doesn’t matter where you win ‘em."

We know what they’re about – big, physical team. We’re really looking forward to it. We’re excited, and we’re excited to leave tomorrow and get in there.” (On potentially having more of a cemented spot in the lineup compared to last year’s playoffs) … “I’m excited to get in there. Last year it was a weird playoff…but playoffs are what it’s about. To raise your game and be a part of that’s always fun. We’re looking to do something special again.” (On whether the team still calls on experience from last year’s playoffs) … “I mean, it’s definitely last year, but it’s nice to draw on those times you went through. Last year was last year. That was definitely the best time in my life playing hockey for sure, and I think we all want that feeling again. But it’s a long journey, a long road, and we’ve just got to kind of keep our heads on straight."

I think it has been a playoff atmosphere for the whole season with the games playing every other day pretty much through all 48. Everybody’s done a good job of playing to it, and I think everybody’s ready for it for this year.” (On whether he’ll play Tuesday night) … “I don’t know what they’re doing yet for the lineup. That’s it. But I mean, I think lets figure out what happens.” (On whether he has been medically cleared) … “I have no idea. I just do what they tell me."

The addition of Bouwmeester and Leopold and probably the biggest difference would be they were really down to one goalie last year after splitting them. I think it affected their team. So they’re clear who their goalie is now.” (On Mike Richards not playing in the third period) … “He struggled before the game. He’s been sick.” (On whether there’s a confidence boost, having beaten St. Louis eight straight times) … “Regular season’s over, and it really has no bearing on anyhitng for me. Zero. I don’t know what it means. If we’d have played Vancouver – we just as well could’ve played them – they kicked the [----] out of us this year, and I’m confident in playing them, too.” (On how Matt Greene feels) … “Well, I’m sure he’s happy. He gets to come to St. Louis with us tomorrow. [Reporter: You’re going tomorrow?] Yep. Sunday. What else are we going to do?” (On if Ellerby will go in place of Greene if needed) … The reason we made the playoffs is because of Muzzin and Ellerby, very simple…We made it because of those guys, not because somebody else was hurt. We might not be in the playoffs. We don’t know. We made it because of Muzzin and Ellerby. Those guys did an awesome job for us. (On whether there’s any disappointment over not finishing in fourth place) … “It’s two years in a row we’ve missed it by one point. That’s all it is. At some point you think about how close it is through the course of the season. Am I disappointed? No, because quite honest I’m very proud of the players. Heck, there was a point in January that you were one of em that said we weren’t going to make [it]. ‘You’re in 14th or 15th place. How are you going to catch up?’ (On the team’s road struggles “of late” ) … “It’s over and done with. ‘Of late’. The season is over and done. We had a great season, to be quite honest.” (On whether the team is playing the way he’d like going into the playoffs) … “We played them very well tonight.” (On whether the team plans on staying at a hotel while in Los Angeles) … “We don’t know when we’re playing yet, so it might be tough getting a room.” (On whether there’s anything specific he’d like to see the team improve on) … “Well, quite honest with not having Brownie the last two games, and then trying to get Greener back in, in a perfect world you always want to be settled in your lines and your pairs going into the playoffs, but obviously that’s not going to be the case. The condensed schedule has affected us. Talking about when our games are, if you look at last year when we played St. Louis in the second round and also in the Vancouver series, there were times in that series you guys where we played one game in six days. Not between series, during series. This year, they’re going to jam it down your throat. You know that. The depth part of it and being able to mix is maybe something that will help us, because that’s what we’ve been doing. I really don’t know. We’re into a whole different [thing]. Just because the way the season was in terms of how it was so compact, we’re probably going to see that again.” (On whether size and depth makes Los Angeles a team “built for the playoffs” ) … “No. I think our opponent is, too. They’re not going to forget last year. As I said, everybody’s doing it. You’re not going to catch anybody by surprise now."

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Now there's another thing I want you to remember. I don't want to get any Kings saying that "we are holding our position." We're not holding anything. Let the Blues do that. We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose!

Edit: It still says 2012 Playoffs in the Greene pic. Great GDT as usual. :)

Yeah that 3rd pairing is going to make us all collectively pull our hair out. At least Jackman kind of cancels out Greene because he won't be 100%, same with Oshie (I hope). I'm kind of diggin' the newer lines....

Excited to see us back in action in the playoffs. 2012 Feels like yesterday.

Bandit 04-29-2013 08:43 PM

Crazy that if Greene & Martinez don't play tomorrow we'll be without 3 of our 6 D from last year, even though they're all under contract.

Lets do this.

HYORI 1963 04-29-2013 11:23 PM

I wished the kings would dress 7 dmen for the series, or at least for game one with Greene and his unknown injury.

Other than that, it's PENNER TIME!!!!!

So pumped right now! And we're not even close to faceoff. Gonna be a long day at work tomorrow...

We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose!

Awesome post! Nothing like a badass general to get you pumped for war..err playoff hockey:yo:

My only worry is that the Kings come out flat and lose game 1. I still think we win the series but a loss tomorrow would not suprise me as the Blues are JACKED THE **** UP to play us. Will this team match that intensity? We will see.

Go Kings.

kingsholygrail 04-30-2013 12:31 AM

Here's hoping they find and flip that switch they were talking about.

KBA4life 04-30-2013 12:33 AM

Go Kings! I've been working all damn day...Oshie and Jackman are scratched for this one?

Good luck guys, I have bet quite a bit of money on the Kings to win this series. If you can play as well against St. Louis as you did against my Canucks in the first round last year, we should have no problems.

Just a quick question for you guys - I'm considering taking Muzzin as a sleeper late in my hockey pool. Even though his point totals in the regular season were nothing spectacular, he always looked dangerous when I watched the Kings. Does he play on the first PP unit for you guys? and do you see him playing heavy minutes in the post season, or is he pretty much locked in his spot on the 3rd pairing?

Cruel11 04-30-2013 02:20 AM

GO KINGS!!!
