[NSH] Patric Hornqvist signs extension (5 years, $4.25M per)

Per team release.

Incredible number for a guy that, in his only two full seasons, has scored 30 and 27 goals.

Shrimper 04-30-2013 03:05 PM

Seems an okay deal.

Patmac40 04-30-2013 03:05 PM

Woah. Nice chunk of change.

Draft 04-30-2013 03:05 PM

Good value, good player. Hope he continues to impress.

The general consensus is that it's a very good deal. a little over 4 million for a guy that should be between 25-30 goals every season, and is probably the closest to a Tomas Holmstrom replacement there could possibly be in front of the net.

Most of us had him pencilled in at 5 on a longer term deal, considering what players like Grabovski have gotten.

WarriorOfGandhi 04-30-2013 03:08 PM

very good deal for the Preds.

I Will Son 04-30-2013 03:09 PM

That's a really good deal for us. Need to lock up Josi

You went from: Seems a bit high, to; Seems a good deal, to; Seems an okay deal.. Just found that kind of funny.

Seems pretty reasonable. Seems like what a guy with his production should be making as opposed to "market value"

Tomas W 04-30-2013 03:11 PM

He needs to stay healty more, but I guess he is needed on the Nashville, he's one of few on that team with a little nose for goalscoring.

OK deal I'd say.

Top 6 Spaling 04-30-2013 03:11 PM

4 mil is about right IMO. Term makes me nervous, but it's nice to have him locked up. Poile is wasting no time this year.

barrytrotzsneck 04-30-2013 03:12 PM

Hopefully now that he's getting paid north of 4M, the Predators will go after the league for the abuse he takes. I know it comes with being the guy that's constantly bumping and falling on the opposing goaltender, but no one takes more late\dirty hits\facewashes than Patric Hornqvist.

TMI 04-30-2013 03:13 PM

Meh. Not impressed with the deal.

That's not true in the least bit

digdug41982 04-30-2013 03:13 PM

Good for Horny.

It may not be true, but Hornqvist takes a ton of a abuse that goes completely neglected.

Though this isn't exactly the thread for that debate, is it?

Watch him for any length of time. If he's on the ice and the whistle blows, someone has a glove in his face or is whacking him across the back of the head.

joe89 04-30-2013 03:16 PM

Takes him through his prime. Seems reasonable.

SLAPSHOT723 04-30-2013 03:16 PM

Fair value IMO.

barrytrotzsneck 04-30-2013 03:18 PM

Not bad for the last overall pick in the 2005 draft.

Everyone in the NHL lives to make Hornqvists life terrible... Cmon, be realistic. He doesn't get it any worse than anyone else who's constantly around the crease

VinnyC 04-30-2013 03:18 PM

Eh, I thought the Preds would've been able to get him for below $4M. He's good for 25-30 goals but doesn't do a lot more than take abuse in the crease and score from 6ft out. If he can stay healthy though, he'll be the second coming of Andrew Brunette.

Freudian 04-30-2013 03:18 PM

I have a feeling fans of Western teams like Hörnqvist more than fans of Eastern teams.

He's a good goal scorer and a very very annoying player. He's always in the face of the goaltender.

AtlantaWhaler 04-30-2013 03:20 PM

HONK!!

Love it.

tarheelhockey 04-30-2013 03:21 PM

Solid deal. Hornqvist has a lot more value in real life than his fantasy hockey profile would suggest. Tough guy to play against, would have a much higher profile if he were on a marquee team. $4m is fair value and they'll have him for a good long while.
