That was quick! I bet it was something along the lines of "Well, if you're not interested in the players available at #4, we might be able to swing a deal. Please? Pretty please? Seriously, I will wash your car."

SLAPSHOT723 04-30-2013 02:51 PM

I doubt they trade it. They'll get a potential offensive star to play with Forsberg, there's no reason to move the pick.

oilersfan11 04-30-2013 02:52 PM

Edmonton Oilers are the team that called.

ThirdManIn 04-30-2013 02:52 PM

It likely has something to do with Trotz publicly saying the pick could be traded. Honestly, I think that was posturing on Trotz's part, and it was likely done with Poile's blessing.

Openly say the pick may be available, and then sit back and wait on the phone to ring. If something works out, awesome. If nothing does, we are still drafting a damn good prospect.

It's gonna have to take A LOT for Poile to trade that pick. It's only the 2nd top 5 pick in our existence

veedubn1 04-30-2013 02:55 PM

Sorta surprised it's only been one team.

The top three are certainly in their own tier... I'm sure many people are wondering if Nashville had their heart set on a certain player at #1 if they were lucky enough to move up.

They should expect to get lots of calls because there is no consensus #4 pick in this draft.

Yep. They can draft a potential franchise Centre, something theyve been seeking for pretty much all of franchise history.

2 years from now they could have a blueline built around Weber + further developed Blum/Ellis/etc, a forward group built around something like Barkov/Forsberg/Wilson/Etc, with Rinne in goal. Looks pretty good to me.

I think he's kidding. Oilers trying to parlay the picks to eventually get to first :)

It's crazy that the Flames have never had a top 5..wouldn't surprise me if Feaster was up to something.

Barkov is the consensus number 4 pick

Really? Didn't know that. That's insane

Sony Eriksson* 04-30-2013 02:58 PM

Dallas has the 10th + Boston's 1st assuming they make the ECF so i could see them being the caller.

Oilers look more likely to either deal their pick or trade back in the draft, MacTavish even said as much!

They don't have the assets unless we'd want unless it's baerteschi. God I hope we don't trade out of the top 5 to pick up another 1st.

Im sure but that could of been what the call was about....who knows! Its all speculation at this point anyway.

InfinityIggy 04-30-2013 03:00 PM

First thought was honestly Feaster. Don't know why...just a gut feeling.

Ill give you the 6th plus Regehr!

Ivan13 04-30-2013 03:00 PM

Just draft Barkov, that kid is going to be special and he's just what the doctor ordered for the Preds.

tml145 04-30-2013 03:01 PM

the only way I see this happening is if they move down a couple of spots

but i doubt they would pass up Barkov

Mactavish is going to be an even worse General Manager than Steve Tambellini!

Personally, I'd trade the pick, too. Oilers aren't likely to get what they need from the #7 spot, so I'd either trade it and see if you can can get two picks in the 15-35 region (Then take Lazar/Hartman and Bowey/Theodore), or move it for a defenceman who can play now.
