Darren Helm to Toronto?

With Joakim Andersson becoming a staple of Detroit's 3rd line, what can Toronto offer to entice Detroit in trading Helm to Toronto.

We need a shut down C for our 3rd line.

It would take an overpayment to get him and Andersson is not our 3rd line C of the future, that belongs to Sheahan. Andersson has been okay in the role but he has not forced Helm out of his role, if he did that we could slide him down to the 4th line C.

Bottom six C's of

Helm
McClement

That be sweet.

Leafs Win The Cup 04-30-2013 11:31 PM

he's a 3rd line centre...I'd give no more than a 2nd for him, and i'd only give that up at the deadline if the leafs were contending (so it'd be more like a 3rd)

Andersson has been solid on the third line. But he doesn't bring half the tools Helm does.

A shutdown third line center you say? who's that guy...that guy who leads all NHL forwards in PK ice time by like a thousand minutes...hmmm his name escapes me

I could see Gunnarsson for Helm being a reasonable basis if not straight across. Good 3c for good 3d. I dont know if im comfortable opening that hole in our top 6 without having a couple other quality dmen present.

That wouldn't even get you Andersson.

Wings don't need any more bottom 4 dmen, they already have too many and need to get rid of some (Ian White, Carlo Colaiacovo, Lashoff). Wings need a #1 or nothing. Chances of getting one through trade is slim, so they will hopefully develop one of the studs in the farm.

Ba Zing.

Seriously, we don't need a bloody 3rd line centre - that's what either Colborne or Grabo is for next year.

Ivan13 05-01-2013 08:53 AM

Silent Jay is better.

The thing is, Helm's value for the Wings is worth a 1st+ (assuming its not a lottery pick and he's not an upcoming UFA). Trading Helm is complicated - Babcock and Holland value him so highly it would take a huge overpayment to get him.

Oh for sure!

He can also play the wing very effectively. And even if not, it's just a bonus having two similar players on your team. I'm always relieved when he's on the ice.
