Montreal Canadiens winger Brendan Gallagher, center Jonathan Huberdeau of the Florida Panthers and left wing Brandon Saad of the Chicago Blackhawks are the 2012-13 finalists for the Calder Memorial Trophy, the NHL announced Monday.

The Calder Memorial Trophy is awarded to the League's top rookie.
FAN POLL: CALDER TROPHY
Which rookie will win the 2013 Calder Trophy?

Brendan Gallagher (Canadiens)
Jonathan Huberdeau (Panthers)
Brandon Saad (Blackhawks)

Gallagher, who is celebrating his 21st birthday Monday, had 15 goals and 13 assists in 44 regular-season games for the Canadiens. A fifth-round pick (No. 147) at the 2010 NHL Draft, Gallagher has two goals in the first three games of Montreal's first-round series against the Ottawa Senators in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Huberdeau, the No. 3 pick in 2011, finished second on the Panthers in scoring with 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 48 contests. Huberdeau tied for first in rookie scoring with Edmonton Oilers winger Nail Yakupov, who was the No. 1 pick in 2012.

Saad, 20, tallied 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in 46 games for Chicago. A second-round pick (No. 43) in 2011, Saad began the 2012-13 campaign with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League, where he went 8-12-20 in 31 contests.

All of this season's award winners will be announced during the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, with more detail on format to be released at a later date.

Huberdeau should win it.

I'm a bit disappointed that Brodin was not a finalist, but oh well. Good for the other guys.

Price My Man Crush 05-06-2013 10:04 AM

Gallagher :yo:

LeighDx13 05-06-2013 10:04 AM

So they are just going to announce the winners of the trophies during the Finals?

Tuggy 05-06-2013 10:04 AM

 Oilers fans are going to **** a brick.

Ol' Jase 05-06-2013 10:05 AM

Brodin doesn't make the top 3, lol.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Reikai 05-06-2013 10:05 AM

No Brodin means Calder won't go to the best player.

gretskidoo 05-06-2013 10:05 AM

That's awful.

You'll see far more rejoicing by Yak haters then Oiler fans bent out of shape.

Izzy 05-06-2013 10:07 AM

Brodins not there, trophys already flawed

BonMorrison 05-06-2013 10:08 AM

Saad should be replaced by Brodin, IMO.

Cap'n Flavour 05-06-2013 10:10 AM

I don't really understand why Saad is listed because Yakupov and Galchenyuk did more with less support and Brodin had bigger responsibilities.

Red Alberks 05-06-2013 10:10 AM

The best rookie is not even there. Haha.

Copperhead 05-06-2013 10:11 AM

Nothing against these three nominees, all had great seasons. But I'm surprised that Brodin and Yakupov aren't there with Huberdeau.

UsernameWasTaken 05-06-2013 10:13 AM

Saad :handclap:

I love the list because we won't have to listen to the Oiler fans whine about Yakupov or Schultz not winning it.

ohheyhemsky 05-06-2013 10:13 AM

Brodin should replace Saad; Yakupov should replace Huberdeau.

Oscar Acosta 05-06-2013 10:15 AM

The two best rookies in Brodin and Yakupov don't make it. Nice work media! :handclap:

As we saw in the coaches poll, these guys are being evaluated strictly on their individual play, not ancillary factors.

Saad was clearly better than Yakupov and Galchenyuk. He played better.

It would have been nice to see Brodin make it but that was never going to happen, this is basically a forward's award and we all know that.

HossHuge 05-06-2013 10:15 AM

This makes me Saad.....:D

Yakupov wasn't even close to as good as Saad. You gotta be ****ing kidding me.

Picks sound about right since points usually dictate nominees.

ohheyhemsky 05-06-2013 10:16 AM

Hilarious.

MaximusT 05-06-2013 10:16 AM

Horrible list imo

Would have been nice to ride the coattails of Toews instead of, well you know, Belanger or Horcoff.

If individual play is strictly looked at as the guiding factor, Yakupov blows Saad out of the water.
