Here are mine

Deflecting Shots-Brett Hull-He has the best hand eye coordination I have seen.

Backhand-Paul Kariya

Leadership-Stevens, Sakic, Yzerman will get a lot of Votes but I am going to go off the board and say. Mike Peca

Durability-Amonte

Stickhandling-Again I will go off the board and say Chris Drury, this kid can put the puck on a string as well.

Energy-Darcy Tucker- a lot of people on these boards hate him, he is one of my favs in the league, he does his job to a T.

Faceoffs-Adam Oates

Protecting the puck-Forsberg

Agressiveness-Leaving out the fighters and going off the board again Marchment, I also think he is a POS but if you forget about Mush out there he will make you pay legal or crossing the line he doesnt care he has been suspended a ton.

Skating-Brett Hedican

kira 09-25-2003 10:49 AM

Deflecting shots - I'm going on a limb and saying Tomas Holmstrom.

Backhand shot - Brett Hull

Leadership - Steve Yzerman, hands down.

Durability - Nicklas Lidsrrom. Who else could play his number of minutes every night?

Stickhandling - Pavel Datsyuk, hands down. Absolute magic.

Energy Player - hmmm...I'm gonna say Kris Draper

Faceoffs - Boy, this is a tough one...I'm gonna say Brendan Shanahan

Protecting the puck - Again, Tomas Holmstrom

Aggressiveness - Hoo boy, I'm gonna say Hatcher. Size alone would tend to put the fear of God in me. :joker:

Skating - Believe it or not, Mathieu Dandenault...he's a speedy little fellow.

Yeah but at least M=G tempered his homerness with some solid picks from other teams. ;)

Ok, let's see..

I nominated Pierre Turgeon among the top in deflecting shots. Anyone that actually knows Turgeon's game realises he's among the best, if not the best in this specific area ever since he made the NHL. His hand-eye coordination, his reaction and accuracy is top notch. Definitely a legit and bonafide selection..

Then I nominated Marty Turco as one of the league's best stickhandlers. He's argueably league's best netminder in this regard, only Brodeur could follow him. Fail to see how in seems unrealistic to put him among the top 3 in stickhandling when he's the best at his position.

Then we have Rob DiMaio, he isn't the Stars fan favorite for nothing. The dude is a pitbull. However, there are lots of energetic and useful "pests".. I guess the selection of DiMaio was so close it came down to preferance.

Finally, Mike Modano in both the backhand and skating departments. If Mike Modano isn't a legit option when we are talking about league's finest and fastest players, then I'll eat my own shoes. His backhand is his most dangerous weapon, I can't help it he's so darn good at it either.. ;).

Nieuwendyk and Hatcher are no Stars anymore, neither is Dahlen. And again, all 3 are legit picks for the intangibles mentioned.

Darth Vitale 09-25-2003 11:31 AM

The first people who come to mind are:

1 - Deflecting shots - Ryan Smyth, Keith Tkachuk

2 - Backhand shot - Paul Kariya (truly scary)

3 - Leadership - Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic

4 - Durability - name any banger defensman or gritty forward who doesn't get injured a lot. They're all equally deserving of respect IMO.

5 - Stickhandling - no contest... Alex Kovalev. His problem is, he *knows* it's no contest and so gets himself into stupid situations.

6 - 'Energy Player' - Ryan Smyth, Adam Deadmarsh of old

7 - Faceoffs - another category with lot's of standouts....

8 - Protecting the puck - Jagr by a mile

9 - Agressiveness - Adam Foote
9a - Fear factor - Darien Hatcher, Stu Grimson of old

10 - Skating - Marian Gaborik is amazing.

You forgot one category...

11 - Best Hands - Milan Hejduk, Jagr

I'm sorry, but despite your "reasoning" post, you really have no room to point the finger.

kenabnrmal 09-25-2003 01:21 PM

1 - Deflecting shots: Tkachuk...stuffs his fat arse in front of the net and is almost impossible to move. Very nifty with the stick.

2 - Backhand shot: Kariya/Lindros...both have sickening backhands.

3 - Leadership: Yzerman...the best we have, bar none

4 - Durability: Lidstrom...so many minutes against so many great players.

5 - Stickhandling: Kovalev

6 - 'Energy Player': Smyth...because not only does he run around like his life is on the line, he's effective at both ends of the ice because of it.

7 - Faceoffs: Krog...my semi-homer pick.

8 - Protecting the puck: Yashin or Jagr

9 - Agressiveness/Fear Factor: a healthy Lindros, Bertuzzi, or Stevens.

10 - Skating: Ah god, there are so many fast guys now, its tough to center in on just one guy. Gaborik

5 - Datsyuk

7 - BrindA'mour
8 - Jagr
