If the Isles beat the Pens

Would it be the biggest upset in NHL history? Does anyone think they can do it?

0 out 18 sports panelists chose the Isles in this series. None even gave the isles any remote chance. This is cup or bust for the pens, many fans were already planning the cup parade with aquisitions of Jarome, Murray, Morrow and Jokinen.

1982. Kings over Oilers. Nothing really close to it.

Lazyking 05-07-2013 10:37 PM

Sharks beating the red wings in 94 is a much bigger upset. The isles have a few decent pieces and top five player in the league in Tavares imo.

I thought they could goin into it..now I actually feel good about that prediction

Dragon Priest 05-07-2013 10:38 PM

As a Penguins fan, most definitely they can do it. But wouldn't call it the biggest upset in NHL history. They believe in themselves and play a hard game. If they could get some really good goaltending from Nabokov and avoid penalties, yes it can be done. They could be (and should be) up in the series 3-1. Which, to think about as a Pens fan, is pathetic. Very disappointed in the Penguins.

Franky Gee 05-07-2013 10:38 PM

I would LOL.

MassiveHomer 05-07-2013 10:39 PM

"Isles in 6" is the new "Pens in 4"

But yes, it would be awesome.

NWAvs 05-07-2013 10:40 PM

I have posted in multiple threads that I think the Isles are going to make it further than the Rangers. I think they beat the Pens in 6 and the Rags lose to the Caps.

#66 05-07-2013 10:41 PM

Not really. A lot of us Pens fans have been talking about chemistry issues for the longest time.

IMO they've only played good hockey for 3 weeks this season.

Altimus 05-07-2013 10:41 PM

Toronto better beat the bruins. Especially if Ottawa keeps up their game.

DG 05-07-2013 10:42 PM

Not biggest upset ever, but yes, they can do it.

Big McLargehuge 05-07-2013 10:43 PM

It wouldn't even be close to the biggest Isles upset over the Penguins.

bettercallstaal 05-07-2013 10:43 PM

It actually wouldn't be that surprising to me. They were pretty deadly down the stretch.

illpucks 05-07-2013 10:43 PM

2001 Senators losing to the Leafs in a sweep is one of the biggest....

"The 2000–01 Ottawa Senators season saw the Senators place first in the Northeast Division, with 109 points. In the playoffs, the Senators lost in the first round, again to the Toronto Maple Leafs, this time in a 4–0 sweep"

missingchicklet 05-07-2013 10:43 PM

Far from biggest upset ever, but would be a surprise.

stish 05-07-2013 10:44 PM

Not even close.

Caps getting Halak'd was a bigger upset.

CloneHakanPlease* 05-07-2013 10:47 PM

Maybe I'm just bitter but I'd have to imagine the 10 Hall of Famer and defending champion 2003-2004 Red Wing team getting swept by Anaheim has to be pretty high up there.

Edit: Probably could add the Oilers upset of the 58 Win 2005-2006 Wings team too.

HF007 05-07-2013 10:48 PM

Has to be with all their deadline pieces added.

RMimagery 05-07-2013 10:49 PM

Isles over Pens in 1993 was much bigger.

Imagine if these Pens won two cups in a row. Some POS (like Cooke) separates Tavares' shoulder after he scores the series clinching goal the end of the first round and the Isles beat the Pens in round 2 game 7 OT without JT.

Hard to beat that.

Jahodac 05-07-2013 10:50 PM

'93 was so much worse

Gnova 05-07-2013 10:52 PM

Anyone that has been watching the Isles play for the past couple months can't really be surprised by it.

They have been very very good.

Puckgenius* 05-07-2013 10:52 PM

I wouldnt say ever but if this does happen, its the biggest upset in the past 20 years. Just my opinion. I mean look at this pens team, its stacked.

MattMartin 05-07-2013 10:53 PM

1 game at a time. Even if we won Thursday I still would not be very confident. I'm just happy we have made a series out of it and shut up many folks who thought we were going to get swept.
