Cal Clutterbuck

Hey everybody, with the end of the season for the Wild, all of us fans have been debating what to do with Clutterbuck.

He's an RFA this season, and will likely get a raise on his 1.4m salary/cap hit that he had this past season.

A lot of fans would like to see him traded, potentially to move back into the first round of the draft.

What would other teams have to offer for Cal?

Randy BoBandy 05-10-2013 12:13 PM

I say the Wild keep him. We need a banger

DEVILS ALL THE WAY* 05-10-2013 12:33 PM

If I'm Lou, I let Clarkson walk cause he'll probably demand a stupid contract and try to make a move for Clutterbuck.

I have no clue what the Wild are looking for but if they're looking for a NHL caliber d-men and a prospect?

Maybe something like...

Tallinder + Urbom
for
Clutterbuck + NJ's 3rd round pick

I have no clue if that is a actual need for Minny, so if I'm wayyyy off, feel free to correct me.

I think a lot of teams would like a physical player like him, who has a touch of upside. I suppose the question is what do you like for him, but assuming the price isn't to high I can see 90% of teams being interested in him.

I would do it. Love Clutterbuck's game. Would much rather pay him his money on the 3rd line then Clarkson

Randy BoBandy 05-10-2013 01:22 PM

The Wild would be interested in a top 4 Dman with a decent contract. I think the Wild would also be interested in draft picks for the upcoming draft. I think it would be wise if the Wild could find a way back into the 1st round.

Keep him. Fans love him, and we need his toughness and speed. He's the sort of guy who becomes valuable in the playoffs.

Billy Mays Here 05-10-2013 01:29 PM

If we can re-sign him for a decent price, keep him and play him on the 4th, not 3rd line. If not, I'd love to turn him into a potential mid to late 1st rounder or package deal for a top 4 d-man.

Just out of curiosity, how is a 3rd/4th liner going to bring you a mid to late 1st rounder?

If Paul Gaustad is worth a 1st, I could see Clutter fetching a very late 1st, maybe a mid 1st if we package him with a prospect/pick. Granted Gaustad was a deadline deal, but Clutter isn't your typical 3rd/4th liner either.

EDM trades you back N.Schultz for Clutterbuck .. and no, we are not taking back Gilbert. Thanks!

Gaustad is also a 6'5" centre, a position much more heavily valued in the league. The point totals looks similar, yes, but the roles are different and I think the valuation of Gaustad was subsequently higher..

Clutterbuck might be the most physical winger in the game... That has lots of value... And he does have the hands for 15-20 goals... Plus is responsible in the defensive end, can kill penalties.

The bidding war for him will drive the price up... Minnesota tells the league Clutter is available for a 2nd... 15+ teams come calling... From there the price is driven up and Clutter returns something very solid.

You're probably right on that - a 2nd is worth it... Maybe a 2nd plus a prospect. But I don't see teams giving up their 1st this year for him. 2014 picks? Perhaps.

Clutterbuck would look sick on a team like Edmonton... they could offer MPS who was a 1st rd pick.

Would 100% do this for NJ. Tally doesnt fit with us, and Gelinas is more suited to crack our roster than Urbom.

nickschultzfan 05-10-2013 02:38 PM

Clutterbuck will be traded for a 2nd or packaged with a 3rd to get into the 1st round.

DesertDawg 05-10-2013 03:05 PM

The Coyotes would have interest and are deep on 'D'.

Lou can offer Tedenby + Corrente... both players were 1st round picks :naughty:

Timing of Gaustad trade and demand drove the 1st and people were shocked when it happened. I don't see it being a good comparable for a trade at the draft.

GordieHoweHatTrick 05-10-2013 03:13 PM

Does he fight?

Chainshot 05-10-2013 03:16 PM

Would #38 be of interest? Or how about a cost-controlled Drew Stafford (say with the Sabres retaining 1/4-1/3 of his remaining 2 year deal)?

ChuckyToGally 05-10-2013 03:18 PM

As a Habs fan, I would offer CGY 2nd and DAL 3rd for Clutterbuck.
