Some new lines for Sweden with Persson back from injury.

19-year-old Gračnar gets the start in goal for Slovenia.

nki 05-11-2013 09:16 AM

NHL Central Scouting ranks Gračnar 3rd among international goalies for the 2013 NHL draft, something to look for if you're a draft aficionado.

SurMartin 05-11-2013 09:17 AM

Thought the game started @ 20:15 CET. ****.

Operation: Sacking of Mårts.
Mission: Lose, big time.

EDIT: Butchering the national anthem: Accomplished...

gretskidoo 05-11-2013 09:39 AM

Physical play not allowed, Granberg!

Systemfel 05-11-2013 09:49 AM

Sweden's sleepwalking.

What kind of croc are the swedish commentators rambling on about Slovenia only having 100 registered players. They're making a mockery of the sport especially since the true number is 943. The country only has one six team league and one team in the Austrian league so the vast majority of those 943 would be non-senior players. Perhaps the claimed 100 players are the seniors if their club teams also have many imports.

Slovenia is a 2 million country, where hockey ranks behind soccer/football, basketball and handball. The infrastructure for hockey is horrific, I'm surprised they are as good as they are. Hopefully some of that will change eventually with Kopitar being hugely popular.

Yeah of course but it becomes pretty redicoulous when they put up Swedens 65.000 players against 100, when it's not even the correct comparison-number. It seems that maybe one of ten juniors there later populates their seven senior teams.

Are Sedins coming to wc?

JureEe 05-11-2013 10:37 AM

Yes. Both brothers as well as Edler will play on Tuesday against Denmark.

Very, very sharp. The goal he actually allowed was a bit of a softie, though. Five-hole on a poor shot by Landeskog.

I think he looks a little bit like Quick stylistically. Not saying he will be anywhere near as good, but I think you can definitely see some NHL potential there.

Weide 05-11-2013 10:56 AM

Great play by Hjalmarsson to set up that goal.

In reality we have 149 senior players ;-) Yes, one of 7 senior slovenian players are playing for NT ;)

One profesional club - Olimpija playing in austrian Ebel league. One collapsed club - Jesenice , which are responsible for development 3/4 of our NT players, also Kopitar's club. And we have 7 ice rinks (last season only 6, because Jesenice hall went through renovation).

We are talented, but we don't have numbers, so on long run we don't belong to elite division, but we will always have Sochi

Gračnar :yo: with great debut, he certainly will be drafted, but he is little small for new generation of goalies - 178 cm. We''ll see ...

Yeah but you have many juniors which makes the 149 seniors pretty good. The best twenty something of those plays in the WC. I think this is enough to create a physically pretty talented team that can at least try to destroy better opponents offensive game. A little bit like Switzerland although they have better players of course.

Unfortunate if Jesenices demise means that they wont be as good developers of players, i saw on a swedish sport program a clip where i believe Anzes father showed them around and i thought the whole program there were pretty professional.

You still need raw numbers - Switzerland has 11.000 senior players, 13 000 juniors, Austria almost 6 000 seniors, almost 5 000 juniors. Slovenia 700 juniors. Too big margin ... If we had at least 15 rinks, 1.500 juniors then we would be unstoppable :sarcasm:

Current U-20 is quite good - twice battling for win Division1A, but U-18 get relegated to Division1B.

Anže Kopitar is family project in hockey enviroment. Father, former NT player, build backyard ice rink, but they knew that Anže must leave Slovenia at 16 to succeed. One in a million.

I remember when BÅG played Samuel Påhlsson when we were desperately looking for a goal against Slovakia in the Olympics. What's the matter with swedish coaches?
