Marek Zidlicky's next contract

PMD that play the right side are always in demand, what do you think he'd get on the open market?

He's over 35, but if the Canucks could sign him on a 2-3 year deal under 4 mil then I'd definitely want us to do that. What would your team offer him? And is he likely to extend with the Devils?

Nobody should sign him.. He is a whiner, and can turn into cancer for a team whenever he feel its suiteble..

I would love to see Canucks do that. That would be horrible deal.

I think he re-signs a 1 year deal with the Devils for around 3 million if management feels Gelinas isn't ready yet (or Urbom) . He's a decent 2nd pairing guy when he isn't taking dumbass penalties. Early in the season (first 15 ish games) he was awful, then he really gained good form. Occasionally, he tries to do too much with the puck when entering the zone like dangling through the whole opposing team which is aggravating. He was also paired with Salvador which is probably one of the worst D pairs we've iced in a while.

Minus hearing "Volchenkov in a foot race", hear "Zidlicky is the lone defender back" is one of the worst things in the world.

Staple suggested that with Streit expected to leave, the Isles sign Zidlicky for the pp and give him sheltered 3rd pairing mins.

I don't know if the Isles fed this idea to Staple or if he's just toss his own ideas out.

If the Canucks offered him a 2-3 year deal, I would expect that they'd get him. I doubt Snow would offer more then 1 or 2 yrs,

KaossKing 05-16-2013 06:51 AM

theres a good chance Zids resigns. Lou wont trust Urbom or Gelinas to go full time just yet. 1 year 3M-ish

njdevilsjds 05-16-2013 07:56 AM

I really hope that he walks, he really should just play wing, he has absolutely no defensive abilities worth talking about.

Zajacs Bowl Cut 05-16-2013 07:57 AM

there have been rumblings that Zids was close to re-signing in NJ.

I Am not his biggest fan but I wouldnt mind him back for 1-2 years if the price was right.

and I also enjoyed the bitter wild fan that posted earlier in the thread.

MadDog172430 05-16-2013 08:03 AM

I think that he would like to stay in NJ (it may also help us retain Elias even further since they are good friends) and as ZBC said, there were rumblings that he would re-sign with us on a 2 year deal.

I personally think a 2 year deal is the max I would go for Zids. He is a good PMD, solid 2nd pairing guy, but can be inconsistent at best in the defensive zone and takes too many penalties for his own good. Still, he has value as a veteran puck mover (something that we're lacking in).

Robert Theodorson 05-16-2013 08:06 AM

Devs should give him a Salvador type contract, because who doesn't want a 39 year old defenseman getting paid over 3M per year?

I seriously hope a Western team overpays for him so Lou is forced to pass and go with one of the rookies.

Zajacs Bowl Cut 05-16-2013 08:17 AM

Devils fans overrate how bad Salvador's deal is.

it really is not that bad.

Volchenkov, on the other hand.....

MadDog172430 05-16-2013 08:27 AM

Seriously, Salvador's contract means very little to our finances in the long run.

IranCondraAffair 05-16-2013 08:28 AM

If he was willing to take a one year contract, I think a lot of teams would be interested.

AfroThunder396 05-16-2013 08:46 AM

If Lou and PDB aren't comfortable with Larsson getting PP time, I expect Zidlicky to be back on a 1-2 year deal. Hopefully in the $3.5M ish range.

The problem is less Salvador's contract and more that we're stuck with Salvador in the lineup.

Agreed. That pretty much means a guaranteed goal.

VC 05-16-2013 09:44 AM

Zidlicky's RHS on the powerplay would be a welcome addition. Two year max on the term. Could be a good partner for Edler,

KaossKing 05-16-2013 09:46 AM

I dont care about Sal's deal, but Volchenkovs is utterly terrible

Billdo 05-17-2013 06:09 AM

if Zid is coming back that would hopefully Tallinder, Volchenkov, and Harrold aren't. At least some combo of two out of those three, ideally. I wouldn't be opposed to Zid being back on a 2 year (max) deal. Greene-Larsson, Fayne-Gelinas/Urbom, Sal-Zid wouldn't be too bad.

Jesus times flies, I remember traveling to Finland to watch him play when he was Ranger property.

Can't believe we gave him up for Mike Dunham.

SchennSational1022* 05-17-2013 05:23 PM

I wish flyers would sign him.

rynryn 05-17-2013 05:26 PM

oh sure, why couldn't the canucks pick him up while the Wild were still in the division? the guy is a one trick pony on the ice and a tool in real life. going to be interesting to see if someone is desperate enough to give him a Rolston type deal.

SiCKNESS 05-17-2013 05:45 PM

Disregard this thread. Canucks dont need another top 6 Defense, or even a Defenseman worth over 2M. They have Corrado, Tanev, Edler, Bieksa, Garrison, Hamhuis and will pick up a depth defenseman or 2 for next year.

Come on man... you sound the way some folks around here sound about Heatley. He's gone, let it go.

This.

You can bench Volch if he sucks, the last thing you want is your captain to be a healthy scratch on a daily basis.

The captaincy of the Devils has meant about a hill of poo since Stevens though, so it could happen.
