I dont know who i look forward to more, finland or usa. Beating the americans would feel much more prestigious after our inability to beat them last couple years.

Have to be bullseye on usa! :)

Jaymond Flurrie 05-16-2013 06:24 PM

Fun fact: Finland-Sweden finalist has played in the final on this decade (2011). Switzerland-USA finalist has been top-2 in World Championships tournament last in 1950 (USA). Last time Switzerland was in top-2 was 1935. Sure, USA has won World Championship in 1960, but that was not played for explicitly.

edit. Top-2 means basically final, but for example in 1950, there was no actual final.

RedLeader 05-16-2013 06:39 PM

Sweden - Swiss finals, make it happen.

Everlasting 05-16-2013 06:41 PM

The 4 best hockey nations of 2013, this will be 3 great games!

May the best hockey team win

Jaymond Flurrie 05-16-2013 06:42 PM

Also this tournament will have a surprise champion:

-If USA wins, that's the first time they're actually able to do something in World Championships. This is like England or Spain in Soccer World Cup - They always have a chance to pull it off, but then for some reason they fall apart always (well, Spain got over it recently).

-If Finland wins, a team that had 0 NHL players to begin with (later they got two) and was known to be the worst roster (on paper) pretty much ever that Finland has iced.

-If Sweden wins, the home team finally wins and if 26 years doesn't make it a surprise, then what does? Also, their goal scoring has been - compared to the roster - horrible in the whole tournament and their goalie has had health problems all the time (Enroth's cramps)

-Switzerland going 10-0. Are you kidding me?

Novacane 05-16-2013 06:43 PM

US & Finland

Really only care that Sweden doesn't make it.

vsk92 05-16-2013 06:48 PM

My nerves will be a mess come the end of Finland's game.

I enjoy watching the rivalry but at the same time hate it

koh19 05-16-2013 06:49 PM

Sweden-Switzerland final, book it!

Mehar 05-16-2013 06:49 PM

Good luck to Team USA. I always support Team USA after Canada is eliminated. It would be great to see them win GOLD. Maybe because i have relatives in the States, but i always want them to win if Canada does not. Great victory against Russia. I think they will beat the Swiss and will face their toughest test in the Final. Wish Team USA all the best!

Dasachtach 05-16-2013 07:25 PM

Go USA! Do it for North America.

Tissotti 05-16-2013 07:41 PM

Swiss being in the finals would be awesome.
Fin vs Swe is its own game, but Sweden got the usual upper hand.

Loffer 05-16-2013 07:42 PM

This will be a cakewalk for team Finland after Canada is out. Sweden will be a piece of cake; and then Suisse in the final will be just brutal.

Mestaruus 05-16-2013 07:48 PM

Going to pick USA & Finland.

I'd hope for Switzerland to beat USA but I don't see that happening. However, Switzerland has been playing in Sweden for a while now and that will be some kind of factor in that match so anything can happen, but slight edge to USA imho. Would be funny if Switzerland would get the gold right away before any other medals.

Oyabun 05-16-2013 07:49 PM

I hope the Swedish team aren't content, or see themselves as the new favorite after beating the Gold medal favorite. If they have as much respect for Finland as they had for Canada and works as hard for the W, we're in the final where I expect USA will be waiting. From there it's anyone's game

And now that I've said that, it'll probably be Finland - Switzerland in the final :)

Leizi 05-16-2013 07:50 PM

As long as Sweden doesn't win the whole thing, i'm happy.

Typical Finnish loser attitude. Just like one of my friends who said I hope Swiss get to the Finals so if we get there possible loss won't hurt that much because they are a symphatetic team. It's top-4 now, we're in it to win it! It's an opportunity for victory, not a possibilty for a loss.

P.S I am Finnish

Tuomaz 05-16-2013 08:05 PM

When is the last time Sweden won Finland in WC?

Sweden won a qualifying round game 1-0 in 2007. They haven't really played each other that much as they always are in different brackets.

torero 05-16-2013 08:12 PM

I think that we will win !

10 straight victories ! Yes !

mark my words.

When you make your coming out, make sure everyone sees you !

torero 05-16-2013 08:19 PM

And a small comment that doesn't necessarily fit in this thread ...

Notice that all 4 semi finalists had less shots on goals than their opponent in Quarter finals !!

Derp Kassian 05-16-2013 08:35 PM

So who's the favourite going forward? Suisse look to be playing the best, Sweden has the most recognizable stars, USA has a good mix of skill + grind.

Finland's roster may lack recognizeable names, but they have a strong familiarity with each other that lends to their team play. They should not be underestimated.

Hoping that Sweden is able to get the win in this one - would love to see the Twins play a prominent role in a - hopeful - medal showing for their country.

On the other hand, loving Switzerland's emergence into the WHC picture. Would be a real treat to see someone other than the usual suspects in the gold medal game.
