Plekanec+Beaulieu for Ryan

The title says it all. Anaheim needs a top 2nd line center, and I have read Anaheim fans asking for defence in various threads. What do people think?

Exit Dose 05-18-2013 08:42 AM

We have a second line center.

You wouldn't take this? It's as big as an overpayment gets and I like Ryan a lot.

The Duck Knight 05-18-2013 08:53 AM

Whether the value is good or not, it doesn't make sense for the Ducks. It creates a hole (Top 6 winger), while also not filling our most pressing need of a Top 4 D-man to play with Fowler.

DKQ 05-18-2013 08:54 AM

I'd pass. Plekanec doesn't solve any kind of cap issues (which is the motivation for trading Ryan according to this board) and Beaulieu isn't the kind of prospect to justify both losing offense and getting older

Vipers31 05-18-2013 09:25 AM

Wouldn't do it, either. I wouldn't trade Ryan in a deal where the center piece is 30-year old. Plekanec is good and has quite a few good years left in him, but he's not the type of player I would move Ryan for.

AngelDuck 05-18-2013 09:46 AM

I'd do it pretty easily as a Ducks fan. The value is really good in this trade, allows us to move Bonino to the bottom 6...Gives Palmieri and Etem a great veteran center to grow up with.

heusy_79 05-18-2013 10:17 AM

This can't be too far off value-wise, but I don't think the Ducks would be looking for an older piece for Ryan. They will either trade him for a player of similar age and skill at a more needed position, or for futures (cap room).

caliamad 05-18-2013 10:21 AM

Don't know the prospect but I agree I didn't realize plek was that old. We'd want younger pieces coming back

AngelDuck 05-18-2013 10:24 AM

XXX-Getzlaf-Perry
Palmieri-Plekanec-Etem

Pretty good top 6 for the next few years at least...I think Pleks could really help out Palms and Etem

That's okay, Beaulieu is just some random dude but hopefully that will change as he gets more games at the NHL level. ;)

Look, I love what Bonino has done for this team, but he's still far better suited for bottom 6 defensive forward duties.

He's clearly not a random dude, and a very good talent, but he's not the main piece and PMD prospects aren't a primary need for us. I think the Habs would value him understandably higher than the Ducks.

I agree with this.

habs03 05-18-2013 02:32 PM

I'd do it but not with Beaulieu in the deal, maybe Diaz instead if needed

McDonald19 05-18-2013 02:43 PM

The core piece coming back in a Ryan trade needs to be Ryan's age or younger.

Chacal667 05-18-2013 02:46 PM

I already made this thread a ton of times...

Be a Hab 05-18-2013 03:08 PM

Ok so if you find plakanec to old what about Lars Eller ++

Like Eller+diaz+prospect.... maybe Leblanc or kristo

I'm not trying to troll I'm just asking.... maybe I'm way off but it would also solve your salary issue...if there's even one

Habsawce 05-18-2013 03:39 PM

Not interested in trading Eller at all, he's just starting to really break out and is a big piece of the future IMO.

If the Ducks wanted a top 4 to play with Fowler I think Josh Gorges fits the bill.

I'd do something like Plekanec + Gorges for Ryan and a mid round pick.

Jabba11 05-18-2013 03:39 PM

Beaulieu was the 17th pick overall in 2011. Was rated in the top 5 by the ISS IIRC and have won the Memorial Cup with the Saint John Sea Dogs along with Huberdeau, Després and Phillips (3 other 1st rounders). He's a yound PMD that was voted the best player for the Bulldogs this past season. He's also being investigated in court for charges for assault along with his father, Jacques Beaulieu GM and head coach of the Sarnia Sting.

I'm a bit perplexed by this statement along with the one claiming the Ducks don't need a C. If both Koivu and Selanne retire the Ducks will most likely insert Palmieri and Etem into top 6 roles. Certainly there will be need for another veteran presence in the top 6.

And if both those two retire it would lead to a perfect spot for Bonino to fill in at the 3rd line role while allowing the Ducks to shop Ryan around for a 2nd line C.

I'm not saying these things will occur, but to say we don't need a C and he must be young seems silly to me. There are certainly scenarios where we could use exactly what Montreal fans are offering.

What would you say a second line center is expected to produce?

ReimerIsFuture 05-18-2013 03:50 PM

Murray would have to be high and drunk to accept this.

Bourdon101 05-18-2013 04:02 PM

I do not think montreal would trade their best center and arguably their best prospect (if you do not count gally) for Ryan. Value wise it's not really good for montreal.

I think what may be causing problems here might be terminology and the real underlying strategy. Bonino had, what, 17 points over the 34 games this year. Provided that wasn't just a fluke, would put him at about 41 points over an 82 game season. That's well within the top sixty centers during the 2012 season(tied with Laich at 50 or 51). It sounds to me like some people may be really asking for another 1st line center that could conceivably land in the top 20, but that isn't really what's meant when people throw around the term second line center.
