Radulov's RFA/UFA Rights To Colorado

Radulov turns 27 July 5th. Does that mean he'll still be an RFA or UFA for this upcoming free agency? Long story short, with Roy named new coach of Colorado and Radulov being quoted as he'd "swim across the ocean" to play for Roy, would a 4th round pick for his RFA right's work? (If he still is RFA)

triggrman 05-23-2013 04:01 PM

July 1st I'm pretty sure is the cut off so he'd be a RFA.

PAZ 05-23-2013 04:03 PM

I wouldn't give more than a 7th for him. That's all his rights are worth.

DrDangles 05-23-2013 04:12 PM

Isn't he signed in the K for another 3-4 years?

KaossKing 05-23-2013 04:15 PM

Devils would pay cause Kovy could probably convince him to come back. not sure what other teams he'd come back for

Premise is to the Avs.
That team just hired Patrick Roy.
He probably is the only coach in history Radulov had real respect for.
Hence the thread...

TwoPadStack 05-23-2013 04:22 PM

He is making $9.6m per season on a 4 year contract... can't see him leaving, even if he'd "swim across the ocean myself to play for Patrick again."

cgf 05-23-2013 04:24 PM

I'm all for sending over a late round pick for Rads rights. If he's gunna come to the NHL it'll be to play for Roy and he'd look absolutely filthy next to Dutchy and Parenteau or Radar and Landeskog. So getting his rights puts the ball in his court to decide if he wants to find a way out of his russian contract to come play for Patrick.

Alklha 05-23-2013 04:26 PM

He is signed in the KHL until 2016. If he decides that he wants to come back to the NHL at that point, then he'll be an UFA.

Lonewolfe2015 05-23-2013 05:39 PM

Keep him far away from this team. Just because someone has played for Patrick doesn't mean we need to spend assets for them, unless everyone here thinks we need Grigorenko now too.

TMI 05-23-2013 06:21 PM

I highly doubt we see Radulov in the NHL again, but if he comes back keep him out of Nashville. We don't need the headache in the locker room when things aren't going his way.

Out of curiosity, when did he say that? SI doesn't credit a source.

triggrman 05-23-2013 06:47 PM

I'd trade his rights for a 7th round pick for sure.

GamingGiant 05-23-2013 07:27 PM

7th round pick.

It's highly doubtful that he comes back to North America, even if he has said he would play for Roy.

a 5th-7th round pick is hardly spending assets

Assets, money, effort, whatever it may be, Radulov will not help this team.

I don't care how talented he is, he's a terrible teammate and plays with no heart.

When he played for Roy he did.

Nihiliste 05-23-2013 08:03 PM

His current KHL contract is worth almost 10 mil a year... I don't think we'll be seeing him in the NHL any time soon.

that's just silly. Radulov would be fantastic for this team. What are the two big needs we always mention when the idea of trading one of our C's comes up? A top pairing Dman and a top line winger, with the first overall pick we have a great opportunity to snag that top pairing dman, and Rads would be that top line winger. His game would be perfect for the Landy-Radar line or the Dutchy-Parenteau line and his off ice "issues" have been massively overblown.

I used to defend Radulov, but there is no denying at this point that he is a selfish headcase. He has all the talent in the world, but is too blinded by his own ego to be a star in the NHL.

Ok. But, on the other hand, he'd likely only cost a late round pick, which has almost no chance of contributing anything to the roster, ever, if it's used to draft a player. Whereas spending it on Radulov's rights has a much, much higher potential payoff. If it doesn't workout, it's not like the Avs really lost anything .

PredsV82 05-24-2013 12:31 PM

KHL and NHL now respect each others contracts, so unless someone buys out Rads KHL contract which as reported is some ungodly amount of money for three more years he wouldnt be able to come over here even if he wanted to.
