I like Q for the most part but it's a tough call as to whether or not we dump him. He's had success with this team, that's clear but he can't seem to get it done in the playoffs.

AbeLincolnsGhost 05-24-2013 03:49 PM

I think the biggest thing is he has shown an inability to make adjustments beyond mixing up lines. The idea that he adjusted to making stretch passes was preposterous. He didn't make that adjustment. We've always done that.

You look at a guy like Babcock. He adjusts strategy and style of play as needed. I haven't really seen Q ever do that effectively.

Hawkaholic 05-24-2013 04:36 PM

Theres really no point in this thread, because I don't think anyone is backing him at this point. Not much to talk about other than trashing him.

I still don't hate him, but his time is up.

Said the same thing, Babcock after game 1 saw what the Hawks where doing and changed their style and how they played. It's clear the Hawks need to change something but Q can't adjust anything and just hopes doing the same thing over and over will work suddenly.

Q doesn't come off as outwardly arrogant in the same way coaches like Vigneault and Julien do...but whether it's arrogance or stubbornness, I think he believes that there's nothing wrong with his system or his coaching...it's just the players who have to do things properly. This is only real way of dealing with problems is by shuffling the lines over and over...as if he could just get the right combinations then they would execute his flawless system perfectly.

Agreed! I like Q, but it's time for a change.

What's the likelihood he actually gets fired though?

Outside of 2010 when he won the Stanley Cup.

It's a lot higher than that

Bowman and Q haven't seemed to be on the same page in awhile. Q got his wish in firing Haviland and bringing Kompon in. This was the year for him to save his job, IMO.

Crazy_Ike 05-24-2013 10:49 PM

I find it exceedingly unlikely the Hawks would fire a coach that is up for coach of the year even though he has clearly failed in certain respects.

But that said, if it were ever to happen, this would be the year, since there is no awards show and if he won the announcement would likely be buried in the other Cup Finals news.

Bubba88 05-25-2013 06:58 AM

50/50 chance. Bowman and Q don't seem to agree much and after he was allowed to fire Havi to bring in a guy that can't help the PP his hot seat hasn't cooled off

DayNah 05-25-2013 07:04 AM

He's not getting fired anytime soon.

Sounds about right. President's trophy winners tend to keep their jobs even if they take a dump in the first round.

Not really

McD just wanted him in over Savard (As 99.9% of people with a brain would have)

Last summer Bowman/Q clashed and Bowman gave him the rope to hang himself with when he allowed Q to fire Havi and hire Kompon

Cullksinikers 05-25-2013 10:38 AM

It's blatantly obvious that Q needs 8 guys or more with all-star talent to do anything in the playoffs.

- Toews
- Kane
- Keith
- Seabrook
- Sharp
- Hossa
And, according to the man himself,
- Kruger
- Handzus

I don't know why we aren't tearing the NHL to shreds right now. :whaaa?: :sarcasm:

BronYrAur 05-25-2013 11:20 AM

Q is a good coach but I think he's having a meltdown in this series. Kitch & Kompon need to go, obviously.

But playing Leddy & Seabs a total of about 21 minutes in Game 4 is just insanity. Both have been far better than Rozsival and the rest of the guys are suffering for having to play so much more. Leddy is exactly the type of player we need out there against the Wings.

No Fun Shogun 05-25-2013 12:49 PM

Think that the odds of Q getting canned is prohibitively low, tbqh.

Sir Psycho T 05-25-2013 12:53 PM

Why should Q be spared, the Canucks let AV go. Since 2010 AV has had the better record and success in the playoffs even but he is gone.

Q has to go, he should have gone last year after the 2nd straight first round exit and a meaningless regular season trophy and winning a round against a team that was missing several key players and playing a 3rd sting rookie goalie means nothing.

MurrayBannerman 05-25-2013 01:52 PM

Since when is Josh Harding a third string, rookie goalie? I know they played against Kuemper for two periods, or whatever, but you can't be serious about that one.

I thought I put a backup and a, just a typo. Either way a team missing many of it's best players including their #1.

Yeah, but the Canucks were swept in the first round and the Hawks have made it to the second. They showed improvement in the regular season and in the offseason (where the Canucks have regressed for 2 straight years). Don't get me wrong, I'd be fine with Q being fired...I'm just saying I think he's got at least another year.
