Dear Anze Kopitar,

I am writing this in the hopes that you may receive this one day. Myself, fellow Kings fans (except kingsholygrail) the city of Los Angeles and your teammates are deeply concerned that you have not graced us with your presence this playoff season.

Perhaps you are still basking yourself in the glow of LAST YEAR's championship. Or are u injured? hmm. Hopefully these aren't the case.

We're here in the trenches fighting for our championship lives; not sure how much longer we can last, but we really, really need your help.

Hopefully you'll show up.

thanks,
a concerned fan

ps and if you can bring along dustin brown too that would be awesome.

So you're not concerned that his production and impact is no where near it was last year when he lead to league in playoff production?

As a matter of fact I think his current style of play should earn him a 10 million dollar contract.

Ziggy Stardust 06-02-2013 04:34 AM

His play really has trailed off quite a bit, though we've spurts of the magic that Kopitar can display with the puck, but there is clearly something off with his strength and ability to hang onto the puck. He's not handling the puck as much as he used to and I'm thinking that him along with a few other Kings are playing through injuries. That is the only logical explanation to how severely some of these players have dropped off.

Kopitar has been a 235 lbs. boat anchor for most of these playoffs. Either something is wrong with him in terms of an injury, or something is wrong with him that is much more serious.

It's mental. Just like most of the team.

He's playing like he has all season. Watch how many opponents crowd around him the moment he has the puck. Kopitar will not get space until his wingers start having their own impacts on the game, particularly Brown. While Williams had a great game 7 against San Jose, neither he nor Brown have been much of a threat so you send most of your guys after Kopitar, get a turn over or force a bad shot and move on.

People seem to think he has some sort of carte blanche with the puck whenever he's on the ice. He is being constantly challenged.

I'm not happy with his production, but you guys are starting to sound like parrots after every single game and seem to think he doesn't care or somehow it's a willpower thing. You forget that there are other professionals on the ice, professionals that are being coached well. Unless somehow the Kings start getting major production out of other lines paticularly on the road, Kopitar will be easy to neutralize.

Newsflash, the best players have always had extra attention placed on them. Kopitar isn't some Johnny-Come-Lately that teams just discovered he has a lot of skill and talent. He's been in the league for a long time, they've honed in on him for a while now. This isn't anything new.

The coaches keep hammering home that the best players have to be the best players. Did you pay attention to the fact that he actually moved Kopitar off the top line and put him on a line with the 4th line wingers and bumped Fraser in his spot? They're trying to send him a message.

If you're fine with complacency, then I guess that is your prerogative. Observers and fans have every right to be concerned with his lack of production. He's a top line center who is considered to be among the top 10 in this league, and when he only nets you two goals since March 25, then something is clearly wrong. People were getting on Toews' case as well due to his lack of production. It's not like we're discussing Dwight King or Colin Fraser here where production from them is a bonus. This is a team's #1 center we're discussing.

What a marvellous thread...

I think players have alluded to it a few times. Everyone is just banged up.

It is strange how different last season was to this.

I would like to see Kopi and others attack the middle from time to time just to change things up.

Kopi, Carter, and Brown are all a little snake bit right now.

Peter James Bond 06-02-2013 10:53 AM

-Since Anze Kopitar scored in the second period of a 5-4 win at Chicago on March 25, he has scored two goals in the 30 games that have followed.

This is a pace for 5 goals over 80 games. This would be the lowest
goal production from a 1st line center in the history of the game.

Ron 06-02-2013 10:55 AM

You guys are too much.

Okay, they had a ****** game yesterday, according to all of you. I cannot comment on it since I was away and did not get to see it.

This team has made it to the WCF. They are one of four teams standing. And we have one lousy game, one lousy loss. Last I looked, it took 4 games to win a series.

Get a grip on yourselves. There are 26 other teams that would love to be in our position. And there are mostly fans of at least three teams actively rooting, begging, that we get our ***** handed to us.

It's a fun time of the season. Enjoy it.

Surprisingly, I disagree with you. I think out of the 14 playoff games the Kings have played...they might have gotten outplayed in 13 of those, the exception being game 5 vs SJ. The only reason we are where we are, is because of Quick. My point is, we've had quite a few 'lousy' games.....same thing is said after every one of them, "we need to be better, we need to start off stronger"...blah blah blah.

I'm ecstatic that the Kings took out SJ, but we got lucky. Our best players have NOT been our best players (except for Quick).

I kick myself in the ass for buying into all this media hype, and drinking the kool aid. So many 'experts' picking the Kings....but now I realize it's because they don't watch the games!

Richards/Carter are drunk, Kopitar is injured, and DL needs to tell Brown he's on the trading block.

xavi4life 06-02-2013 11:14 AM

Trade him for Corey Perry! :sarcasm:

He's got to be hurt, otherwise he's the new Brad Richards.

King'sPawn 06-02-2013 12:11 PM

Where's the letter to Richards for his stupid giveaways in game 1, Doughty for blowing his coverage, Brown whose best offensive contribution was turning the puck over for an odd man rush, Muzzin for his defensive giveaways, and...

Hypocrites. The entire team, minus Quick, is struggling.

And by the way, WE aren't fighting for OUR playoff lives. WE are beer swilling fans. Let's not patronize the people who are actually playing.

Well said.

Have to remind myself from time to time that I am just a passive viewer.

It's an escape and a passion but not the be all of life.

He's gotta be injured.

BallPointHammer 06-02-2013 12:55 PM

Some Numbers

Stats: ave shots for / ave shots against / difference / 5-on-5 GF/GA / GF / GA / difference
Rank: (xx)

Last year in playoffs:
Kings: 30.6 (6) / 27.0 (4) / +3.6 / 1.52 (1) / 2.85 (3) / 1.50 (1) / +1.35
Devils: 28.4 (10) / 27.0 (5) / +1.4 / 1.33 (2) / 2.46 (4) / 2.42 (9) / +0.04

This year in playoffs:
Kings: 24.6 (16) / 29.9 (6) / -5.3 / 1.20 (4) / 1.93 (12) / 1.57 (1) / +0.36
Bruins: 37.6 (1) / 32.3 (9) / +5.3 / 1.50 (1) / 3.15 (2) / 2.15 (5) / +1.00
Hawks: 34.1 (3) / 27.7 (3) / +6.4 / 1.32 (2) / 2.69 (6) / 1.77 (2) / +0.92
Pens: 32.8 (6) / 33.1 (11) / -0.3 / 1.25 (3) / 3.92 (1) / 2.58 (9) / +1.34

Illustrates what seems to be the obvious consensus amongst fans:
1. Top teams have top 5-on-5 GF/GA and numbers are comprable
2. This year Kings ave shots for is worst in league and ave shots difference is much worse than last year and is much worse than the other three teams still in playoffs this year
3. Quick is best goalie in the world
4. Kings poor offense this year is making things much more difficult than last year
5. Kings need more than just Kopitar to seriously ramp up the offense
6. Kings can only "will" themselves to winning games for so long until the poor offense can't be over come

I think he's probably injured. Lot of the players are this time of year.

This. Ron, I love your posts.

I accept that Kopitar has not been as good as he usually is but to the handful of people on this board who insinuate over and over that Kopi just doesn't care really need to check themselves. Just because we breezed through the playoffs last year all of a sudden people think that's what is supposed to happen every year.

Guess what people, the other team wants to win the game also. I know it's a strange concept to you but these are 7 game series for a reason. Clearly the kings have done something right over the past few weeks to get them to where they are at.

It's all the same people who give these guys no credit after a loss are the ones chest thumping on the main board after a win. One game at a time people. Relax, we will get our chances in this series.

I'd like to think I'm not in the minority here, but I'm not going to be upset if we lose....I'm just getting pissed in how we are losing. I don't expect the Kings to win the cup again, hell, I didn't expect for them to win it last year....but its just mind-boggling that this years teams is SO much different than last year, yet we basically have the same line-up. Why was it SO important for us to keep this team together if they aren't going to play like it?

I don't need the Kings to win, but I do need them to show up. We know that this team can put in a hell of an effort...and they certainly shouldn't have to rely on Quick to keep them in it every night.

likid 06-02-2013 01:34 PM

Sometimes, when I read topics like that (and especially on other Kings forum), I really wish that secret dream few (or many) of posters here would come through and Lombardi would trade Kopitar...

But in reality, this PO just show, how important is Kopitar for LA Kings and if he is not playing like he did last year, there is no one who would step into his shoes and carried that team constantly. I'm not talking about goalies (Quick) here, but players in the field.
