Can Kovy crack 1000 as a Devil/Pass Elias?

VERY RARE thread by me, but this popped into my head......

http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/NJD/skaters.html sort by pts.....

(assuming patty resigns)........kovy's got 13 years left on the contract would need to average ~61 pts a season to hit 1000......that and the fact that patty can still rack up points and go for the grand himself. (70 away) i'm on the fence as of now and would like to hear other thoughts. cheers guys.

not with this coach. or rather, itll take longer with this coach.

Bleedred 06-09-2013 06:45 PM

1000 as a Devil? Might be pretty hard but he will likely clear over a thousand by quite a bit overall.

BenedictGomez 06-09-2013 06:45 PM

It would be pretty tough, but to be honest, I think "as a member of the" records are kindof dumb.

StvBroDan 06-09-2013 06:47 PM

If Kovy continues to play the way he is now and Lou does not get him some big time help then no. He will have injury or just wear down.

AfroThunder396 06-09-2013 06:48 PM

He will not be playing the entire 13 years of his contract.

That being said, he'll be well above 60 points a season for the forseeable future.

Rhodes 81 06-09-2013 06:56 PM

he'll probably play another 8-10 years and ultimately average about 50-60 points a season. maybe higher some years and lower others.

1000 as a Devil, not a chance in hell

1000 total, sure.

i was thinking the same thing but used the number for a reference point. i guess he would need a few pt/game seasons to have a slight chance then

Are we talking turnovers?

i disagree about "member of club" records. such records show that a player had both talent and longevity.....both traits i find important in sports. a good example is the MLB 3000 hit club (of which only 28 have obtained)....not many can say they did that.

on another note......gordie howe's "played in X amount of decades" and al arbour's 1 game coached in '08 to get to 1500 games were complete ****ing jokes ....... staged tripe.

in arbours case only to get a nice round number attached to his resume.

yep......fish

Colin226 06-09-2013 07:35 PM

Everyone here should certainly hope so.. We need him at his best.. Love Patty but I will always hope that his records are beaten, because it means better things for the organization

Don't forget to account for all the lockouts between now and then.

nah, that's an easy yes. lazy back checks after those turnovers would be better.

NJDevs26 06-09-2013 07:42 PM

Actually it's twelve years left on the contract. Fifteen year deal, '10-11, '11-12 and '13 were the first three years of it. And I'm not sure he plays the final five years of it when he only has $10 million in real money coming to him over that time.

Mgd31 06-09-2013 08:05 PM

I assume he has at most 7-8 seasons left with this team so probably not

I think beyond that, the question of "can player X(in this case Kovy) become the devils all time leading scorer?" is an interesting topic.

Certain milestones within an org are noteworthy as well. Say if a guy could ever put up 500 points with 3 different teams. That would be a pretty cool stat.

Looks like Francis is the closest to ever doing it. Only guy to ever total 350+ with 3 different teams?

AfroThunder396 06-09-2013 08:28 PM

1000 as a Devil would give him 1615 career points, passing Phil Esposito for 10th all time.

HeliDevil 06-09-2013 09:01 PM

He'll pass it in total but I don't think he has a realistic shot for 1000 as a Devil.

TheFloyd 06-09-2013 09:26 PM

Can he pass Maclean with 702 points? He needs 501 points to do so, if he play another 10 years he will likely do it in my opinion.

devilsblood 06-09-2013 09:45 PM

How bout can he crack -100 on the +/- scale? Currently a -33 with the squad.
