Kevin Bieksa

Canucks are in need of a shake up. The Sedins are untradeable. Kesler isn't going to be moved and neither is Burrows. Hamhuis and Garrison are here to stay. That leaves Bieksa as a core player that can be made available. He has a NTC, but what is his true value around the league and what team(s) would be interested in adding a top 4 defenseman? He won't be traded for any cap dumps so young players and picks are preferred.

Vankiller Whale 06-09-2013 09:02 PM

Ideally I'd like to package him with something for an upgrade on defense.

Max Kellerman 06-09-2013 09:04 PM

Bieksa for Purcell.

Personally I see Bieksa as an way overpaid 4-5 dman. I wouldnt give much for him. Maybe a lesser prospect and a 3rd or 4th pick. As far as how the league sees him, probably an overpaid 3-4. I dunno maybe a 2nd and a lesser prospect or no pick and a better one. Douglas Murray got a 2nd I believe but he was on his way to being a ufa, so his value is probably a bit above that. His value is at an all time low considering how he played this past season. Might wanna wait to see if a new coach can bring up his play...go Torts?

NoShowWilly 06-09-2013 09:13 PM

unless we have a RHD replacing Bieksa that actually puts up some offense he is not moving.

D. Stafford, L. Adam and a 3rd

While Purcell could be a decent addition, it doesn't do anything to help the Canucks' cap issue which is something I think the Canucks would want to address if they moved Bieksa.

Solid overpayment by the Sabres, IMO.

Yeah I would only do it if Booth was boughout which looks like it's not happening. Bieksa for Connolly is something I'd do though as well.

Yea Connolly is who I was thinking of, but I have a feeling Tampa fans would be opposed to that.

Paajarvi and a 2nd, or Gagner straight up. Nothing more than that.

I've seen some approving it. Also I'd probably do Paajarvi+2 nd. I'm a pretty big Paajarvi fan.

Paajarvi and a 2nd for Bieksa helps both teams. Paajarvi could possibly find his stride with the Sedins while Bieksa would add toughness to the Oilets blue line.

Hows Paajarvi's play making ability? Do you think he could mesh well with Kesler?

Those are offers we would definetly look at.

I would still prefer that Buffalo one though

Paajarvi would be a good fit in Vancouver. He could possibly be that big winger for the Sedins, and if it doesn't work out, he's a good compliment for Kesler on a shut down line. He's more of a play maker than a shooter for sure. My main beef with him is that he takes low percentage shots and doesn't really drive the net enough to be a prime scorer. His playmaking skills and defensive play are his strengths.

Would love to see Bieska in Detroit, What would Vancouver want from the Wings.

Most likely something built around Nyquist.

Habsawce 06-09-2013 10:27 PM

Montreal should be interested if Kevin became available. He would be ideal to play with Markov and then Emelin can play with Subban when he gets back from injury.

Emelin-Subban
Markov-Bieksa
Tinordi-Gorges

Although I'm really not sure what kind of upgrade could be available from Montreal's squad but we do have a glut of draft picks and some young defenseman in the minors that would be available. As well as Diaz and Weber (rights) from the big club.

Ellis
Thrower
Dietz
Beaulieu (highest value for sure)
Pateryn
Nygren
25, 34, 36, 57 + 2 3rds.

Any thoughts of Beiska for McBain type deal?

Unless Carolina is including something else of interest, I don't see the point. Would rather move Bieksa for help up front and look to acquire a lesser defenseman elsewhere.

Yeah the us would have to be something of importance.
Most Canes fans are willing trade McBain for a 3rd and a prospect.
Bieksa is worth a 1st and a prospect to Vancouver at a minimum. It would have to be a move that helps Van as much as the acquiring team.

PRV n a 2nd isn't enough for me. I don't buy his as a 1st liner prospect. More of a complimentary player like a Kulimen or Raymond. This is an in division trade and helps the Oilers way more than Vancouver. Though I'd consider Gagner and a 2nd. Gagner fills more of a need and allows us to play Kesler on the wing during even strength except for strong side face offs.

Matt Frattin/Joe Colborne and 2nd round pick?
