Nyr-edm

:rangers

7th overall
MPS

:Oilers

Del Zotto
3rd rounder

Thoughts?

Macch 06-12-2013 11:33 AM

Easy no for EDM

Trafalgar McLaw 06-12-2013 11:34 AM

Oilers respectfully decline. I would personally rather have Lindholm/Monahan than Del Zotto since a 2 way center is a more pressing need than an offensive defenceman. Adding Paajarvi, one of our few good defensive forwards, is a deal breaker.

What could we add to make the deal work that's not like an overblown deal?

cacchioli22 06-12-2013 11:43 AM

Mdz 3rd and rights to clowe for mps and 7th???

Brian Boyle 06-12-2013 11:44 AM

Would rather get a legitimate scoring winger or a young center with upside than a pick and a disappointment for Del Zotto.

I mean, I wouldn't hate this deal if it happened, but I'd rather get a more proven asset.

Neatman 06-12-2013 11:48 AM

Easy no from Edmonton.

MDZ would be a nice piece for sure, but the 7th is the Oiler's best chance at filling a big need for a 2- way #2C ( or even #1B). Throwing in MPS, who has made significant strides in the last year to becoming an effective NHL forward, just makes it not close at all.

TylerSVT* 06-12-2013 11:55 AM

EDM will pass on this easily.

jw2 06-12-2013 12:15 PM

What if its Staal instead of Del Zotto?

FanHabtic* 06-12-2013 12:17 PM

Easy no for Edm. MDZ is way too one dimensional.

Are you giving up on Gagner then? Thought he was a #2C.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are try again. Horrible proposal. Start by adding slightly to Del Zotto not the other way around ,if you don't want to hear the phone slam against your ear. Wow, I would have to think real hard giving up PRV straight up for Del Zotto the way PRV continues to develope.

s7ark 06-12-2013 12:21 PM

Jesus. I'll just say no and leave it at that.

Kwayry 06-12-2013 01:20 PM

This is an easy no from the Rangers.
Career production
DZ: 0.44 points/game.
MPS: 0.35 points/game.

MPS is soft for a "defensive" forward. Averages less than half hit/game, or 1 hit every 2 games.
+/- is not an exact indicator, but he is -21.
DZ is at 2 hits/game and at +1, doesn't hurt the team.
Just to illustrate this point further
Hits/year:
DZ: 162, 92, 156, 77
MPS: 22, 18, 24

MPS's best season was 2 years ago with 34 points, DZ surpassed in 3 out of his 4 seasons with 37+ points.
(This season he had 21 points, which projects to 38 points full season)

Of the 2, MPS is the softer, less productive and 1 dimensional.
He is young at 21, the only thing he has proven so far in 3 seasons in the NHL is he won't hit, can't score.

The first is nice and all, but it's still a lottery ticket.
DZ is a proven commodity and still young at 22.
I know a lot of posters prefer 2 in the bush than 1 in the hand, but I take proven production over potential anyday.

I'd rather keep DZ.

Not yet. The guy we draft at #7 won't be a number two center right away, but center depth is something we desperately need.

Oberyn 06-12-2013 01:23 PM

Oilers get absolutely fleeced. MDZ isn't worth a top 10 pick, and Paajarvi is worth more than a 3rd.

Oilwings 06-12-2013 01:24 PM

I'd love MDZ. How about Gagner?

Oberyn 06-12-2013 01:26 PM

It's funny how Rangers fans call Paajarvi a disappointment/bust, when Kreider is in the exact same boat. Yet, if you ask Rangers fans what they think of Kreider, they talk him up like he'll be a star.

That's why I'd love to acquire Burmistrov from the Jets. We draft Monahan and start him on the wing.

Monahan Burmistrov Yakupov would be my 2nd line.

Kreider: 23 games played
MPS: 162 games played.
If Kreider is as disappointing as MPS after 150 games then you may have a point, right now you don't. Try again.

This was Kreider's first year of professional hockey. Paajarvi has been pro for three years now.

McVespa99 06-12-2013 01:35 PM

I dont see PRV as being dissapointing at all. Players dont all come in and star at 18. He is taking a little time to develop but improved a lot this year. I still think he will be a good 2nd line winger. Worst case scenerio a top third line winger that can put up some points. I dont have a problem with that or his play this year

junyab 06-12-2013 01:44 PM

Kind of surprised with the Oilers fans. MDZ would be a steal for the 7th overall.

Trxjw 06-12-2013 02:06 PM

Mystery box syndrome.

A 23 year old top-4 puck mover is a 23 year old top-4 puck mover, but the #7 pick could be anything! It could even be a top-4 puck mover!

Nah, I get why Oilers fans are saying no, but I feel like MDZ is getting undervalued here.
