Roster/Trade/Etc Discussion Part VIII

15 days until the draft. Interested to see what Murray has planned...

Ducks Nation* 06-15-2013 12:28 AM

I will be in Vegas on draft day, it's gonna be funnnn rocking a ducks jersey for sure when its going on!

c4rcy 06-15-2013 12:36 AM

I would like to see him acquire some immediate help. By upgrading, trading up, doing something. Anything would be nice.

What area needs the most help in your opinion?

You didn't ask me but I'll give my two cents anyway:
IMO We need an upgrade in our Top 4 defense. I hate that Fowler had to play with mediocre (at best) partners in the last 2 years and I'd really appreciate it if he had someone at his side he can depend on. Someone with shutdown capabilities and some experience.
Also I'd love a good LW on our 1st pairing for Getzlaf and Perry. I posted recently that maybe V.Stalberg from CHI may be an option as he has size and can shoot the puck as well. I wished he played a little more phyiscal though.

mightyquack 06-15-2013 05:09 AM

I don't think Stalberg is a particular good fit, he's got size but he's not really a top 6 winger, and his playoff performances aren't very promising in what has been a very good team of the last few years.

I know he's a UFA, but I think we'd be better off giving up some assets to acquire an actual top 6 LW.

I'd still love to acquire a player like Glencross, think he'd be a good fit in our top 6. Not many playoff games granted, but a better player IMO.

duxfan8 06-15-2013 02:15 PM

We could use a top 6 left wing, but the main focus has to be on a number 1 dman. Remember when we had a ton of assets and Burke found out Pronger was available? He did whatever it took and we got the Cup. I don't know if there are any #1s available, but we have depth in our minor league system right now and we should use it. Cap is dropping, but we have great flexibility right now. Maybe Samueli will allow BM to get closer to the cap limit this year, since it dropped so much.

Ducks Ahoy 06-15-2013 04:43 PM

Should we go get Letang?

Just a thought, but would it be smart for the Ducks to go after Letang?

Old Man Barking 06-15-2013 04:53 PM

No. We have enough young talent on the backend and his price tag would be steep. We don't need another offensive d-man.

mightyquack 06-15-2013 04:54 PM

I believe he's asking for anywhere between 7-8m as salary for his extension. Not much Anaheim can do to fit that sort of salary in.

Gliff 06-15-2013 04:56 PM

No and may I introduce you to the roster/trade thread.

Old Man Barking 06-15-2013 05:02 PM

Requested the entire day off of work. Stoked out of my mind. I've got a good feeling for this draft.

Exit Dose 06-15-2013 05:14 PM

He's not taking a pay cut to play here, which doesn't matter, since they are not trading Letang.

Ducks DVM 06-15-2013 08:28 PM

Someone gave Souray a 5th place Norris vote

Congrats to Beauchemin for finishing 4th and beating Chara though.

Haha, to the trade boards with that information!

LOLIRL.

Wow. It just goes to show that even if it is your job, you don't necessarily watch the games. (I assume this is a hockey writers association award).

I don't know why, but I was picturing a cape involved.

heusy_79 06-15-2013 10:40 PM

Value of: Sheldon Souray

Arguably the fifth best dman in the NHL this past season, and signed to a cap-friendly deal with two years remaining at $3.6M. How many first round picks would your team give up for this top-pairing dman?

Worth a try right?

ESPN Insider Article from Craig Custance, regarding a possible Letang trade.

The Ducks also are rich in goaltending, with potentially two No. 1 goalies in Jonas Hiller and Viktor Fasth, and arguably the best goalie prospect around in John Gibson. For what it's worth, Gibson is a Pittsburgh native.

Sojourn 06-15-2013 11:28 PM

We're not trading Gibson. **** that.

Exit Dose 06-15-2013 11:29 PM

I'm sure we'd be interested if he hit the block.

Static 06-15-2013 11:46 PM

If Ryan were traded for Letang I don't see why we couldn't afford him. Add Vatanen and ask for Bennett.

Exit Dose 06-16-2013 12:05 AM

We wouldn't have to trade Ryan for Letang. We may still have to trade Ryan on top of that to make it work, if the reports of Letang wanting 7 to 8 million turn out to be true.

We don't have many untouchables, but I'd regard Gibson as one of them.

Yes he's a prospect, but not many teams tend to trade away prospects that are arguably the best in their position.

Confound 06-16-2013 09:24 AM

What's up Duck fans, I didn't want to create a new thread for it but what do you think Kyle Palmieri's potential is?

I've lurked on here before and some people have said 55-60 two way forward, is that an accurate projection?

Also, with Selanne possibly retiring, does that mean Palmieri will play in the top 6 next year?
