If Lecavalier becomes available due to his buy-out, could he become a target fot the Habs? Could he play on wings?

At what cost though? Who do we trade for him that they wan't and we can afford to lose?
We have a jam at the center position and on defense. We also have plenty of draft picks. I think Bergevin could package something interesting that won't hurt that much in the long run. It always depends on the asking price of course. Clutterbuck's truculence would be welcomed. He's also a pretty good hockey player.

S Bah 06-18-2013 03:00 PM

Cal Clutterbuck is available I'd love to have him on the Habs Mr. Energy.

BLONG7 06-18-2013 03:01 PM

There would be alot of teams interested, but where would VL want to go? I wouldn't think Montreal would be his choice...

overlords 06-18-2013 03:02 PM

I don't think Bergevin is the type to make a move/signing just to please the people in the city. He has a plan and I honestly don't think Vinny is part of it. Even if he becomes available, I bet the Habs don't even offer him anything

I would offer:
Gionta + Beaulieu + #25
for
Lecavalier (25% retained) + #3 (pick Drouin)

Vinny would have a cap hit of $5.8M for 7 years. Drouin can play one more year in the Q and then come up to the big club in 2014-15 to replace Galchenyuk when he slides into centre void left from trading Desharnais or Plekanec.

Tampa would save $28.75M over 7 years (including Giontas salary)

Then trade Diaz for Clutterbuck, sign Clowe, sign Douglas Murray.
Have Tinordi or Drewiske fill in while Emelin is hurt.

FORWARDS
Max Pacioretty ($4.500m) / Tomas Plekanec ($5.000m) / Brendan Gallagher ($0.870m)
Alex Galchenyuk ($3.225m) / Vincent Lecavalier ($5.795mó25.0%) / Ryane Clowe ($4.500m)
Rene Bourque ($3.333m) / Lars Eller ($1.325m) / David Desharnais ($3.500m)
Travis Moen ($1.850m) / Brandon Prust ($2.500m) / Cal Clutterbuck ($2.000m)
Ryan White ($0.722m) / Gabriel Dumont ($0.578m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Andrei Markov ($5.750m) / Alexei Emelin ($2.000m)
P.K. Subban ($2.875m) / Josh Gorges ($3.900m)
Douglas Murray ($2.500m) / Francis Bouillon ($1.500m)
Davis Drewiske ($0.638m) /
GOALTENDERS
Carey Price ($6.500m)
Peter Budaj ($1.400m)
OTHER
Buyout: Tomas Kaberle ($0.000m)

Ya that would be sweet and if if we retain 100% of Vinny's salary they would never make that trade

Sorry for being a jerk to you before Overlords.

Anyways they said on the radio here in Ottawa today(Team1200) that Montreal has significant interest in Bickell if he hits FA due to his play and size.

This might be old news, but I'd thought I'd share.

Analyzer* 06-18-2013 03:44 PM

I don't want Vinny. Unless he's bought out and signs for Desharnais money and DD is gone. Even then I'm not sure.

Clutterbuck would be a must target. Hopefully Bergevin does target him.

Well with the Bergevin connection/Hawks it's no surprise but to be honest he's been pretty disappointing against the Bruins thus far

Definitely not the 5.5-6 mil he'g get from the Rangers or Toronto if he was to hit the market.

Yzerman would laugh and hang up. I'm sure they would like VL's contract gone but not at the expense of the #3 pick in the draft.

How many Blackhawks haven't been disappointing Vs the Bruins ?

Toews has 4 goals in his last 41 playoff games apparently.

If we got Bickell and didn't overpay drastically for him I'd be pretty stoked. Until he goes and becomes useless like a lot of our fas.

More like 0%. Even if Lecavalier was Gomez-bad. You don't part with Drouin to save some bucks (and give Brian Gionta 5 millions).

Habsawce 06-18-2013 03:53 PM

Why would anyone want Lecavalier, honestly? Also, why would TB buy him out when he's their captain, and they aren't exactly throwing cash around these days.

At the worst, they'll wait till next year and see how he rebounds this season after a pretty solid year this year.

Because he's still a very valuable player, he's just stuck on a horrible contract. Take away the contract and he becomes very appealing, even if he's not the 50-50 guy of old.

But I agree, I would be shocked if they did buy him out. I think he's there for life.

Harpo 06-18-2013 03:57 PM

If Lecavalier is bought out, I'd like the Habs to make a solid offer for a 3 year contract. If he's gonna go to a big-market team, I think he might pick us.

Im not in the Bickell to Montreal camp

He comes east to play, his bang style means he best buckle up vs Bruins and Leafs....
I can see him gettin a few beat downs...

Yes he is big,but again when the Habs get there yearly beat downs ,he will be in prety tough waters.

Also, he stopped his bangin where did it go vs Bruins???I mean this is who he will be facin if he wears Habs jersey.

I hope .Hawks do resign him.

couris 06-18-2013 04:02 PM

If we are going to get a goon, hopefully its going to be a relatively young one. No 38 yr old goons please.

Cull909 06-18-2013 04:03 PM

How did the flyers sign streit? They deal for his rights or is free agency open?

Interesting that its the Habs that are one of very few teams that actually understand how to play against Boston, despite being 'beatdown'.

Curl up in the fetal position until the Bear goes away and then win ?
