Possible Silver Lining to Boston's Success?

If the dastardly broons go on to win the SC (shudder), might that send the message to Habs' management that physical play, grit, intimidation etc are keys to success? And might we see that reflected at the draft, in UFA buys and other off-season moves?

(I am desperately trying to find something positive about Boston's run.)

I don't see how trying to mimic the Bruins is a good thing.

Is become a team of classless thugs like Chara what we have to look forward to?

I see many Habs fans obsessed with the Bruins... remind me of those B from the 70's to 2000's...

And it's the biggest tragedy of seeing the Bruins win another cup.

I get the need to be bigger and tougher, I really do, but when everything becomes about beating up the Bruins...you know your team is the one with an inferiority complex.

I remember the days where we were laughing at their fans for their moral victories... nowadays, seems like every Habs fan is looking for one of those victories.

Not only that but we dominate them when we play them for the most part...

Yeah we do beat them

It must be our speed, or the fact that we are more motivated when we face them because of the rivalry

But the fact is that they are built to go far in the playoffs

And we are not ............... yet
I believe in MB

There is no silver lining to any success the Bruins or Leafs have. I wish them nothing but misery.

The Habs brass haven't responded to anything in 20+ years, and by extending Drewiskie, Desharnais, Bouillon and Budaj I won't be holding my breath for physical hockey anytime soon either.

My point was that they were all patch-work, insignificant moves for (relatively) insignificant players. You don't have to be a ****nose if you just apply some critical thinking once in a while.

Budaj is definitely way too soff.

huh, you posted about our 7th and 8th D and our backup goaltender... and link them to our lack of physical play...

sure, critical thinking, no problem...

I don't think you have to mimic them. I don't think the idea that we should become a little tougher means we are mimicking them.

We had a tougher team in the 70s and 80s than we do now. And we were still known for speed.

Bouillon is Therrien's pet and played 2nd line PP and bottom3 D minutes, he wasn't and so far isn't slotted at 7th. Drewiskie is a non-physical player on a roster that has one and half hard hitters on its back-end. Keep defending these clowns.

Mmmm. Well no, we won the season series this year, and we lost it last year. We lost our last two meetings in the playoffs. If you want to talk about the last 40 years, its kind of irrelevant cause we would not be talking about the same team. But I do think we play them quite well, especially for a team that was struggling to make the playoffs in the past few years and didn't make it last year.

Well, they are a rival. And other than that, they are a force and they are in our division. It's something you can't ignore.

there's a difference between not ignoring and being obsessed.

There is, that's where the part about them being a rival comes in.

What does this have to do with anything I have just said?

There is a difference between wanting a tougher team with someone to stand up for our players and looking to beat someone up as a consolation for a loss or bully people unprevoked.

Marchand's name on the Cup x 2 = No silver lining.

Yeah I don't think there's anything wrong with getting tougher, I don't think it's the solution but it's an issue. I still would rather be more like the Blackhawks than the Bruins though, even if they are going to lose this. The Blackhawks have plenty of grit and dirtiness themselves, but are far more entertaining.

And yes, I know how difficult it is to suck your way into a Toews and Kane...but for all the talk about the "Bruins model", they hit the jackpot a few times themselves - consistently good goaltending (they must be doing something right there), gambling on Chara, and drafting very well. Bergeron might not be Toews but he's not that far off either. As much as I'm a Plekanec fanboy and think he can be part of the solution, Bergeron is basically Plekanec but better at everything except trolling and not getting injured.
