Good.

niceee

Beerz 06-20-2013 10:26 AM

only good because it might mean we have a deal in place for Miller .... otherwise who cares.

I bet Sabres got him for a steal as Enroth let some money slip between his 5 hole.

Enroth signs two-year extension:
Quote:

Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced the team has signed goaltender Jhonas Enroth to a two-year contract extension.

**Enroth will be available to the media today at 2:30 p.m. in the First Niagara Center press conference room.**

In the 2012-13 season, Enroth (5’10”, 166 lbs., 6/25/88) posted career-best marks for save percentage (.919) and goals-against average (2.60) while recording a 4-4-2 record through 12 games played. In his final six starts of the season, he notched a record of 4-1-1 with a 1.47 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage.

After his NHL season, Enroth helped Team Sweden capture the gold medal in the 2013 IIHF World Championship. He was named the tournament’s best goaltender after recording a .956 save percentage and a 1.15 goals-against average.

The Stockholm, Sweden native was selected by the Sabres in the second round (46th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. In his four seasons playing for Buffalo, he has appeared in 53 games, compiling a 21-18-10 record with a .914 career save percentage and a 2.72 goals-against average. He was named to the 2011-12 NHL All-Rookie Team after he led all NHL rookie goaltenders in games played (26), games started (22), saves (693) and shots against (756).

It doesn't mean anything. They weren't going to just let him walk for nothing and they'd want him here whether they keep Miller or not.

Enroth had a pretty terrible start to the year (remember that Carolina game? Ugh.) but he came around. He's done enough to stick around while the wheels turn and we see what else happens with our goaltending situation longterm.

ZZamboni 06-20-2013 10:37 AM

Good for him. He's at least earned a longer look. Now he needs to step up and develop or ship out. Admittedly, I warm up slow to most players. I still think he's barely an NHL back up. But I want to shake that and buy into him being a solid, no doubt, bonafide NHL starter or at least a solid NHL back up.

Save the stats to try to convince me to think otherwise, it won't :)

Chainshot 06-20-2013 10:42 AM

Glad to see they're not waiting. He'll be UFA at the end of it too.

ZeroPT* 06-20-2013 10:44 AM

Good for Enroth, as mentioned I hope this means we've a deal in place for Miller or atleast a deal in principle :)

Enroth's two-year deal in Buffalo: $1.25 million per year

If we re-sign Leggio, then we know that Miller is a gonner.

gallagt01 06-20-2013 10:49 AM

This has no bearing on a Miller trade. Enroth would have been back regardless.

Re-signing Enroth has no bearing on dealing Miller. This is basic housekeeping. Don't look too deeply into it beyond just business as usual.

I think there is one thing to read into it:

The Sabres aren't completely sold on Enroth as the #1 post-Miller.

If they were, then they would have signed him to a one year deal and locked him up long term after one full "put up or shut up" season as the starter.

McTank 06-20-2013 10:57 AM

Baker says enroth was on his flight back from Chicago. Could this be because sabres managment are in Chicago working on a miller deal?

Good call. I imagine they are still looking for their "freak", their version of Rinne who is 6'4"+ and athletic, who I hear they have their hearts set on. But taking him to UFA looks more like a transition deal.

rabi 06-20-2013 11:07 AM

Interesting...I believe the deal makes him UFA at the end..

and give Enroth leverage for next contract if he posts a phenomenal season?

Zip15 06-20-2013 11:08 AM

Why did Enroth quit?

Hyphens matter.

Why would the Hawks work on a trade for a starting goalie while they're in the midst of a cup run?

I'm pretty sure they're content where they are.

Probably because flights from Europe go through Chicago/New York/LA/ATL ect..

I agree. It's smart to do a two-year deal especially if Miller is traded. If Enroth shows up in a big way this year, then we can extend him early on next summer and spread the cap hit out a little more. If he doesn't, then we don't have an ugly long-term contract on our hands. If we did just one-year, Enroth performs well and we have to pay accordingly while still not getting the benefit of a low cap hit.

matthew94 06-20-2013 11:24 AM

I'd like to see Enroth/Leggio in Buffalo next year with Hackett/Makarov in Rochester. I still have some hope that Leggio could be a late bloomer. His overall game seems to be getting better and better. We've certainly seen some goalies become very good in their late 20's.

Well I dont know how to quote twitter but it was something like "enroth was on my flight back from chicago last night, I think we all know why" and I wasnt sure what he was refering to as why other than signing the new contract

EDIT: maybe I'm reading to much into it and he was just referring to the signing
