what would it take to get Mikael Granlund from the wild?

this is a guy I would love to see in a buffalo uniform.put him on the line with Armia and let the Fins Flash.not sure what it would take to get him here in a trade but what do you think?

ZZamboni 06-21-2013 08:18 PM

What would it take to get more posters to post here about players being added to the Sabres instead of thinking it deserves it's own thread?

What he said.

Also, Armia +, so it wouldn't make a difference anyway.

Not even close.

1.) Minny doesn't have the cap space to just take Vanek. We'd need to take Heatley back -- but, injured guys can't be traded.

2.) Vanek with one year left in no way shape or form gets us an elite-level prospect entering his 2nd year PLUS a pick.

Vanek to the Wild is pretty much a non-starter, even at half salary. They don't have any useless cap space and Vanek costs wayyyy too much for Minny's blood right now, thanks to Heaters' labrum.

kenfury 06-21-2013 09:35 PM

A few weeks ago I tested the framework of a Vanek @ 50% plus 16 for Granlund and Heatley cap relief on the wild board. All I got were a bunch of facepalms and WTF is this guy thinking. I dont think they are to interested.

I'm not sure Grandlund really fits in with the style of prospects Regier and Devine are looking to acquire. He's a great talent and prospect but not one that I think you would see Buffalo actively going out of their way to acquire.

You can trade injured players, Buffalo did it last off-season with Derek Roy. You can't buy out injured players.

Right, it's up to the team's involved if they want to make passing a physical a condition of the trade.

To Wild
Thomas Vanek at 50% cap hit
Drew Stafford at 50% cap hit
Nathan Gerbe at 50 % cap hit

To Buffalo
Dany Heatley
Devin Setoguchi
Mikael Granlund
1st rounder next year

Wild then have 8,400,000 left in cap space to sign briere and a depth player like penner

top 6 would be

parise- koivu- stafford
vanek- briere- pominville

You can't keep salary like that. There's a hard dollar limit on how much salary you can keep and we're already keeping some of Pominville's.

Edit: I think the total you can be keeping at any given time is $5m. I think we're keeping $1.25m of Pommers'.

o thanks for the info. they could still possibly fit that under the cap with only keep 5 million and taking 12 million in cap back.

GrindNMuck 06-25-2013 11:10 PM

2nd round pick.

How does Granlund's value compare to Grigorenko's?

It has to be higher. Before this season Granlund and Tarasenko were considered the two best prospects outside of the NHL. He's put up big points in Finland at a very young age. He has question marks though. He's an undersized player without great speed, which is a worrisome combination. He had a similarly rough NHL debut to Grigorenko despite being two years older and having played top level men's professional hockey for three years. On the other hand, in 29 AHL games this year he put up 28 pts.

Personally, I'd be prefer rolling the dice on Grigorenko over Granlund. He will be the better player and he has NHL size. But I suspect at this point we'd have to add to make a swap.

Yeah, I'm seeing a 21 year old who has the same kind of debut as a 19 year old, just scoring-wise, and wondering if he brings some other dimension to his game that I'm not aware of.

I'm not sure what the Wild would think of it but I'd easily do it. Setoguchi for Stafford is basically a wash, and I'd take it for the change of scenery aspect. So it's mostly Vanek for Granlund + 1st in the 20's + having to take on Heatley's contract. A no-brainer really.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think its 3 total contracts for a maximum of 15% of the cap

Sounds more correct than what I said, but that would make it over $10m. Seems higher than what we had been discussing. I thought it would've been something like $8m at the most.

rules on retention:

1. max retain 3 players salaries at a time (Pominville counts as 1..thus 2 left)

2. Salary retained can not exceed 15% of the cap...or approx $9.6M
