Wild interested in Fleury

The Wild has also expressed interest in Pittsburgh’s Marc-Andre Fleury, who backstopped Pittsburgh to the 2009 Stanley Cup but has struggled in the playoffs the past two seasons and was ultimately unseated by Tomas Vokoun in this year’s playoffs. Fleury has not asked for a trade, however.
Please do it Minnesota. Please.

Trading for MAF is better than having the Harlem Globetrotters at your arena for a whole season. Nonstop laughs and tomfoolery.

The connection is there with Chuck Fletcher. It could be a good spot for him to go and revive his career. That said, Pittsburgh can look to acquire Niklas Backstrom who will be a great stop gap for them.

If a team is looking for a stop gap, shouldn't they have a young goalie for the future?

I would presume Pittsburgh would be looking for a younger goalie or draft one this season and let him develop. Until then, Backstrom can be a very good stop gap for them.

Nobody should want Fleury at his current contract. Except maybe Pittsburgh since they already have him.

@5M a year I am guessing their would be a few teams willing to take a chance he can regain his form

Signed Eric Hartzell during the season. Also have Zatkoff and Thiessen in the system.

Pens have no blue chip goalie prospects but they recently signed Hobey Baker runner-up Eric Hartzell who backstopped Quinnipiac to the Frozen Four final game. He should be platooning with Zatkoff in Wilkes-Barre next season. And Sean Maguire had a strong freshman season at BU though he's still some years away.

Pretty sure that Shero made it plain and simple that MAF Is'nt going to be traded. That he's still Pittsburghs Goaltender going forward.

maybe but he was hardly going to come out and say he was going to move him.

nickschultzfan 06-22-2013 09:04 AM

With the Wild unable to buyout Heatley until he's 100 percent healthy, I would imagine he would have to got back the other direction to make this trade happen. Probably Harding too for roster reasons.

He didn't rule it out and being honest if he knew that a goaltender like Backstrom could come for a similar cap hit, he'd pull the trigger.

That's way too much money coming back.

Sharppi 06-22-2013 09:08 AM

Heatley going to PIT I would be very okay with this.

SoupNazi 06-22-2013 09:10 AM

And here I thought Minnesota wanted to win...:sarcasm:

Shrimper 06-22-2013 09:15 AM

If the Wild kept $2.5m in retention (33%) on Heatley would they still be interested as it's a big contract to be coming back.

Kingler 06-22-2013 09:15 AM

If the goal is to make the playoff then Fleury is an excellent choice...what he does once the Wilds get there is another matter altogether. At $5m its not a bad price tag considering how much some of the UFAs are going for lately

domaug* 06-22-2013 09:18 AM

i dont care if Minnesota wants Fleury, but the Pens would be crazy to take Heatley back in any deal. i'd sooner take Backstrom than Heatley. Backstrom isnt much cheaper but at least he can do more for his money than Heatley.

That's true MAF still has plenty of value to another team, And if Pittsburgh can get there Goaltender of the future by other means then i can still see Fleury being shipped some where else.

Phil68 06-22-2013 09:24 AM

Maf for backstrom? I would do it all day everyday

Why would Pittsburgh want Heatley right now? He's nothing but a walking wounded at this moment with his Injury issue he cant even be bought out. Heatley is a waste i cant see any one wanting to take on that contract right now.
