Islanders interested in Ryan Miller

I doubt it, no way their going for Miller AND Vanek. Would cost way too much.

Edit: Listening to the second link. NO chance they trade Ryan Strome or Kyle Okposo imo.

It's a good fit for him in a hockey sense.

DarkHorse 06-28-2013 09:03 AM

If Snow was to make his first big trade since Ryan Smyth and have it be Strome/Neiderreiter, roster player and the 15th pick for one year of Miller, he should just go away now. That would be a disaster. If Anaheim is looking for Courturier and the first for Ryan, then you offer Neiderreiter and the 15th+ for two years of Ryan instead.

HiddenInLight 06-28-2013 09:05 AM

Should be an interesting discussion. The Islanders could definitely put together an interesting package in any deal and afford him capwise. I look forward to more rumors about this potential deal.

kasper11 06-28-2013 09:11 AM

I have no doubt the isles are inquiring about Miller.

However, I also have no doubt that Snow will not give up what he considers to be key players for a rental.

That means no Okposo or Strome. Not sure his thinking on Niņo right now. The 15th ov could probably be moved.

I'd think 1st and minor prospect would do it.

or 1st and 3rd or 4th

Miller makes sense in NYI.

Would really ramp up that battle of New York.

Lundy and Miller keeping the games close. Would be good games to watch.

HockeyH3aven 06-28-2013 09:25 AM

I don't see any way that they could convince Wang to spend $6 million on Miller and $7.5 million this season on Vanek. Even if the Sabres eat half of Vanek's contract.

I think Miller to NYI makes since, with the Sabres eating half of his salary this year. He's not really a true rental because theoretically this trade would happen before opening night. I think he'd also consider resigning in NYI if they do well (and I think they would) this season with the Islanders looking to be on the upswing.

8thRoundPick 06-28-2013 09:25 AM

What a coup that would be for the Isles. They could give a very brilliant package of prospects to Buffalo, even an overpayment wouldn't hurt them too badly in that department, and they would get a premier goaltender - something they haven't had in decades. I think the Islanders would be strong contenders after getting Miller - worth overpaying for. You can't be mediocre forever, eventually you need to cash in your chips.

Couturier and 11 >>> Niederreiter and 15

Miller has the ability to be a Top 5 G in the league. To suggest names like Strome or Okposo wouldn't be included is bonkers.

pigpen65 06-28-2013 09:35 AM

Miller wants out of Buffalo because he's getting older, he wants to go to a contender, and Buffalo is rebuilding. He would probably also prefer a west coast team since that his wife lives in Cali. So, the Isles make 0 sense for him. If he was traded there, he would only stay a year. That being the case, the Isles aren't going to give up much for him.

PWJunior 06-28-2013 09:35 AM

It was interesting how in the whole podcast, they never mentioned or glossed over Miller's salary and impending UFA status after next year. These are not minor factors when it comes to the Islanders. When was the last time Snow traded away young assets for a vet? Ryan Smyth and look at how that turned out. Snow gets a lot of grief from Isles fans, but he doesn't overpay for anyone and doesn't give up anything of premium value. Plus, Miller is not the only name out there in a potentially crowded goalie market after the compliance/buyout period.

Funny...Miller has never even hinted at wanting out of Buffalo.

Riseonfire 06-28-2013 09:44 AM

Yeah I don't see this trade happening. Miller is simply not worth any of our blue chippers and then some.

I'd give up our 2013 1st and 2014 2nd (we don't have a 2013 2nd) for him and thats about as far as I go. If philly wants to offer up Couts and the 11th then by all means trade for Miller.

WGR 550 is awful, anything from them is basically useless (unless it's from Paul Hamilton).

One of their "top" out of the studio guys who covers Rochester said on the air he wouldn't trade Zemgus Girgensons straight up for the #1 overall pick because "he's going to be really good".

:help:

The Couts and 11th was for a different Ryan.... Bobby Ryan...

That post was about going after Bobby Ryan instead of Ryan Miller by using Nino and 15th since Anaheim is rumored to have asked Couts and 11 from Philly for Bobby Ryan.

A Buffalo sports radio station talking about what an amazing package the Sabres are going to get? Surely they're not just suggesting that so more people tune in?

I'd do a non-blue-chip prospect and conditional pick. 2015 1st if Miller resigns by next year, 2015 3rd if he tests free agency.

Spectra 06-28-2013 09:52 AM

Why would the Isles want him? If they do get him, I sincerely hope they don't do anything stupid like Okposo, Strome, Nino, Nelson

lol I think they mistook Miller's name for vanek's if they think that's going to be the return.

I'd offer both players at 50% salary retained if NYI send us the 15th overall, nino and strome.
