NY Rangers will not buy-out Brad Richards

per McKenzie, the NY Rangers will not use their other compliance buy-out this year.

Crease 06-28-2013 03:41 PM

Brad Richards will NOT be bought out this summer

@TSNBobMcKenzie 8m
NYR will not be using their remaining compliance buyout this summer so Brad Richards will remain a Blueshirt.

Well, there ya have it. I'm surprised. Ranger fans everywhere praying he doesn't get hurt.

Ziggy Stardust 06-28-2013 03:44 PM

Probably a wise me to see how Richards can respond playing under a new coach who seems to know how to handle his top stars (unlike Tortorella who has a history of using his stars to set an example, the Mike Keenan method of coaching).

digdug41982 06-28-2013 03:45 PM

Yeah, give him another shot, revisit next year. But yeah, like that one guy said, this guy gets hurt a la Heatley and you have A WHOLE LOT of trouble goin' on.

Nothing As It Seems 06-28-2013 03:45 PM

Ughh... he'll bounce back, but not enough to justify keeping him past this season. He has to get bought out next summer. It just doesn't make sense to keep this contract on the books given the decline he's shown.

Riverdale 06-28-2013 03:46 PM

Embarrassing.

Thats all there is to say about this.

Alchemy 06-28-2013 03:46 PM

So this means they aren't resigning Clowe?

The Zetterberg Era 06-28-2013 03:47 PM

Now Rangers fans can pray during however many games this season he doesn't go down to some serious injury. I am not surprised thought he wouldn't be bought out, could it be the Rangers already got a no thanks from Vinny?

Vipers31 06-28-2013 03:49 PM

I think he'll have a great season and nobody will think about buying him our in 8 months. Well, maybe. But I certainly agree with the decision to give him that chance.

Wiqkid* 06-28-2013 03:50 PM

He'll have a bounce back year. Probably agood decision.

Maybe they got a "Only if Brad is still there" from Vinny

Never know/

either way, I think it's a mistake.

He's a declining player, has been for three straight seasons.

Offers nothing outside fo offence and if he's not providing you that, he offers nothing.

Mistake signing, bigger mistake not buying him out.

indigobuffalo 06-28-2013 03:50 PM

Didn't TSN report a few days ago that Bryzgalov was definitely NOT getting bought out...?

Yeah, I think they'd be crazy to buy him out before they at least give him a shot under AV. They can always buy him out down the road if things don't improve, but they'll be in trouble if he gets hurt.

MapleLeafsFan4Ever 06-28-2013 03:52 PM

I'm not surprised that Sather decided not to do that.

No his agent said that. TSN specifically Bobby Mac said he would.

oobga 06-28-2013 03:55 PM

This is a good call. Vigneault loves to give his offensive stars the prime offensive minutes and opportunities. Richards will probably have a good bounce back season.

Crease 06-28-2013 03:57 PM

He carries a $6.67m cap hit for the next 7 years. He's 33. And he's been on a steady decline for the last 3 years. I don't understand the logic. Even if he has a bounce back season, the Rangers would be smart to buy him out. Why risk it?

Vancouver Canucks* 06-28-2013 03:58 PM

AV probably wanted to keep him

:sarcasm:

SI90 06-28-2013 03:58 PM

I bet he gets 70 points next year

It is a business, but cannot imagine Vinny would want to insure that his friend is bought out, that logic never made much sense in terms of Vinny to New York.

Suddenly7 06-28-2013 03:59 PM

Damn it! Would of been great for Anaheim to at least give him a call.

I mean I can see it but what order would it be / who would be moved to the wing?

Stepan
Brassard
Richards
Vinny
Boyle

They get another chance to do the buyout next summer if Richards doesn't have a good season, or even if he has a good one I suppose. If he has a really good season, maybe a desperate team will give up assets for him in a trade.

Nash 06-28-2013 04:02 PM

Vigneault will give Richards very cushy zone starts and line matches as much as possible. He could have a bounce back year, but if he is still as slow as Rangers fans say he has become, he should still be a buyout candidate next summer. Either that, or hope that the inflated stats he may get out of playing under Vigneault actually makes another team consider trading for him. They also have a whole year to trade him along in a package that is disguised as not a pure dump for another team to get other assets and buy him out next summer.

Ladde 06-28-2013 04:04 PM

Buy him out next year.
