Name: Adam Tambellini
Position: LW
Nationality: Canadian

Height: 6'2"
Weight: 160
Team: Going to North Dakota
League: NCAA

Scouting report(s):

Redline

Quote:

-Surrey Eagles forward Adam Tambellini might be the best hidden power forward to come out of the BCHL in the past three to four years. Traded from Vernon to Surrey, Tambellini has fit right into an already potent Eagles lineup, using his big frame to create space and his skating ability to find open lanes to drive the net. He stands 6-3 and is a natural goal scorer with plenty of confidence.

He's a scout's dream in the way he prepares himself and plays an unselfish game, making smart decisions with the puck. With his bloodlines, he certainly understands what it will take to make it at the next level. Tambellini stayed in the BCHL this year because he'll be entering North Dakota's powerhouse program next fall.
Hockey Prospect

Quote:

"plays the game at a very quick pace, and is a very impressive skater for his size...is very dangerous in the offensive zone because of his size, speed and skill...has good vision, a nice release and is able to do everything with the puck at a high pace...opponents had a very tough time containing him this season because not many players in the league can play the game at the same speed as him...can easily drive to the net and score around the net because teams did not have a defenseman who could match him with size and speed at once...can play in so many different areas on the power play because of his unique skill set...teams really had to create game plans around Tambellini to try to stop him on a consistent basis...the big knock on Tambellini’s game at this point is his lack of a physical game...could provide a more physical presence with his size."
Future Considerations

Quote:

"a big rangy forward with good hockey sense...likes to find his position and have the puck distributed to him...his reach is a major strength as he uses it to keep the puck away from defenders and to get pucks around goaltenders in tight...has good sense of where to get to both with and without the puck to generate pressure and a scoring chance...at his best when he plays with a sense of confidence and authority on the ice...given adequate time and a team with some patience in developing the young Tambellini, he could be a good project that turns into a gem down the road."

NYR selects Tambellini. BCHL kid with a good frame, skates well, has skill, and protects the puck effectively. A ways away.

Ferarro said he's a "handsy" player.

Like.

This kid was born AFTER the Rangers won the cup in '94.

God I feel old.

HatTrick Swayze 06-30-2013 06:37 PM

Like hearing big frame + skates well.

No Dak is a great program.

jas 06-30-2013 06:37 PM

Here's his latest Hockey's Future report:

Quote:

2012-13: Tambellini finished the season with BCHL champion Surrey after being obtained in January in a trade deadline deal with Vernon. He was the Vipers' leading scorer at the time of the trade – scoring 22 goals with 17 assists in 36 games – and had 14 goals and 13 assists in 16 regular season games with Surrey. He led the Eagles with 10 goals in 17 playoff games and had 8 assists with 6 penalty minutes. Surrey beat the defending champion Penticton Vees in six games in the BCHL finals. Ranked 62nd amongst North American skaters in Central Scouting's mid-term rankings, Tambellini was ranked 42nd in the final rankings prior to the 2013 NHL Draft.

He's Steve Tambellini's son.

Ho hum

Bluenote13 06-30-2013 06:39 PM

Brett Pesce and Nik Hansson were still there, then taken after ours.

This kid is a project. That's about it.

silverfish 06-30-2013 06:40 PM

Can't seem to find if any team holds his CHL rights. I have no qualms with him going the NCAA route, but if I recall, the Rangers like sending their prospects to the CHL. Maybe not a guy like Adam though, who will probably be a four year UND player.

KreiMeARiver* 06-30-2013 06:40 PM

UGH we missed out on Ismael-Diaby by 1 pick. I really wanted him.

Don't know much about this dude.

ECL 06-30-2013 06:40 PM

A project with huge upside.

Scouting reports?

from FC who ranked him 72:

Tambellini is a big rangy forward with good hockey sense, that will need development both physically and mentally as he finds his game’s identity. His skating is a work in progress as he gets to where he needs to in good time but lacks ‘pop’ in his first few steps. His balance will also improve once he adds considerable leg strength. He’s not one to stickhandle his way through defenders or into the offensive zone but rather likes to find his position and have the puck distributed to him. His reach is a
major strength. He’s at his best when he plays with a sense of confidence and authority on the ice. Tambellini’s not overly physical as he can be outmuscled by smaller guys with his thin limbs.

From HP who ranked him 55

Quotable: “He has first round talent but work ethic varies from shift to shift.”
– NHL Scout

Quotable: “Always tough to rank players like this. I didn’t see him live but Charles
An saw him a few times. NHL guys mostly said the same thing, elite talent
but needs to put it all together.” – Mark Edwards

Seems to be an attribute we've been looking for in prospects. I like the direction we've been going lately

Trxjw 06-30-2013 06:41 PM

Good pick but he is a long way away. Thought Pesce would be the guy.

Alvvays 06-30-2013 06:41 PM

OMG FIRE SATHER AWFUL PICK REBUILD TRADE HANK HELL NEVER WIN A CUP HE DESERVES BETTER

Sounds like a skilled player with boom/bust. Wasn't everyone clamoring for that type of player?

I think they wanted Miller to go the CHL route because he was closer, with Tambellini being a project I imagine they don't care as much.

Yes but only if they have a funny sounding name or something. I don't think anyone can make any sort of sense out of this board at this time of year. Safer picks could have been had sure, but then people would have *****ed we went with the status quo safe pick.
