If Rask is getting 7m as an RFA, what do people expect Schneider to get when he hits UFA?

Less than 7 mill. Rask has proven more at this point and is comig off of. beastly playoff run

Agree with MS, they should try to do everything they can with Luongo before they move Schneider to compensate. Still time for this to unfold yet.

If we get the 7 th pick who do we target? I'm really high on Monahan and Nichushkin

One of Monahan, Nichushkin, or Lindholm will be available at that spot, and I'd be happy with any of them. I would not draft a d-man with that pick since all the high ranking d-men (excluding Jones) aren't great offensively.

I'm talking about when Schneider is a UFA year after next.

I'd want Nichushkin, since he'll be most likely to be able to contribute now in a top-6 role.

Yup I'm with you on this one, not a big fan of Nurse and Zadorov being top 7 picks in a draft this deep. I think Nichushkin has the potential to be everything Gillis wants.

It remains to be seen how much he'll be able to prove behind that Edmonton defense.

iFan 06-30-2013 12:34 AM

What's with Ben Kuzma going on about left wing needing help? Sedin, Burrows, Booth, Higgins?...

Agreed. The guy is going to be a superstar IMO.

If Nurse is around I'd consider it, I think he's got the tools to build his offensive game a lot. That being said, walking out of the draft with any of the three players you listed would be huge for our future, and I'd rather shore up our offense as you suggested.

I'm just saying, if Schneider is going to command a 7.5m x 8 year contract when he's 30 years old, would people still be as upset at keeping Luongo + shiny assets vs Schneider + nothing?

I would think so. I believe those who think he will completely, unquestionably get plucked off waivers before it gets to a buyout situation are as out to lunch as those who thought there'd be a bidding war for him last year. Even without surrendering assets, I can't see how a GM wouldn't be extremely hesitant to take on that many years of his contract.

I know 7 is a little high for Max Domi I think Tsn had him slated to go number 10 ... But Maybe if we trade for Philly's 11th Domi is available. What do you guys think of him?

Nichushkin is high on his own ego, he came out and said if he didn't make the NHL in his first year, he would go to the KHL, he will drop in the draft, you watch.

Hypothetical after hypothetical. I can just a easily state that with managements excellent track record of getting value on contracts that Schneider won't get anything that takes him too far out of line with Kesler and Edler. Would we be upset then?

Well ya but they should be collecting offers for Schneider too...

If Monahan is still in play by six I believe the Flames have him in the bag though there was some rumours that Flames are possibly trading 6th pick and more for Seguin.

Not too mention if they do the CBO for Luongo then you have to ad the 27M + 1.5M per year at term to whatever they pay for Schneider because that, effectively, is the choice they'd be making.

Is he really worth that?

I don't think so... gotta move him, backed into a corner for a number of reasons but suck it up and do it.

Rocky- 06-30-2013 12:43 AM

I'd rather have Schneider and nothing than Luongo plus depth via trade of Cory. Cory is the better goalie. You can win with great goalies. His upside is still for a long time to come. Luongo and more than half the fans also want to move on. Trading Cory and having him win the cup would be Cam Neely all over again- and that one still hurts. Luongo himself said it himself- time to move on.

At the same time, everything indicates he ready to step in and contribute. The guy looks like a game breaker and could be exactly what we need.

I personally like Domi, but unless the Flyers are offer Couts+11 I don't see how any other expendable assets from them could warrant passing on Gagner+7 th especially if 1 of Monahan or Nichushkin are available.

Good prospect, but not worth trading Schneider for, obviously.
