ESPN: High hits warrant severe punishment

From ESPN.com :

Last season, the National Hockey League cracked down on obstruction, but the standard often varied in application.

This season, the NHL is going to crack down on hits to the head. And there's no room for interpretation.

In a memorandum sent to players, coaches and general managers and being circulated during training camp, league disciplinarian Colin Campbell warns suspensions will be more severe this season for blows to the head and other infractions which result in injury.

"We intend to impose more severe penalties than in the past," wrote Campbell with regard to the above-mentioned infractions, "including suspensions where none might have been imposed in prior seasons and longer suspensions in those cases where suspensions would have been imposed.

The NHL is embarrassingly late on this IMO. The NFL has been doing this for quite sometime. The NHL is like Nascar, slow to react. Luckily for NHL, no one has died or been maimed (like in Nascar)
